.... I'm not seeing the offense.
A Rastafarian wig, hat & pendant, while wearing a rappers shirt that is known to smoke weed mixed with a marijuana lei or bead like necklace sounds like a everyday occurance around here, and even more common on halloween.
All a Cholo costume would be is some khaki dickies cut half way down the shin with some white tube socks pulled up as high as possible. Get a white wife beater, a plaid long sleeve jacket and only button the top button. Then put on some black locs, wear a gold jesus chain and tie a bandana around your head.
You could find all that in Sears or JC Pennys year round. So I'm not really seeing the offense.
The offense (to me) is the ability to make these costumes with a white person on the cover package with very little to no protest, but have a black person pose as a rasta in costume or a hispanic as a cholo would cause those ethnic groups to protest because its stereotyping. Then the greater offense is when a WHITE person sees those same costumes and protests as well because if they didn't THEY would be labeled racist or prejudice, but when it comes to a "white trash" costume they have to keep their mouths shut.
You, and me, we know not to get worked up over silly **** like a costume based on a stereotype cuz we know they're not true (across the board*), but some people are just too uptight to see the fun and hearing them bitch and moan about something as silly as a costume makes ME bitch and moan about THEM and ruins my day cuz now I'm the uptight one. ****!

No seriously, I've dressed up like a cholo before in front of my mexican friends. Every halloween during high shcool i'd come to school with baggy pants down to my waste, an oversized white tshirt and a bandana in my pocket... why? Because school administrators deemed "no costumes allowed" and me dressing up like 98% of the school population was a huge laugh amonst my friends. Everyone else just thought i gained some style.
