I just had the most genius idea ever for Animal Crossing
« on: June 25, 2012, 08:21:52 PM »
I've talked with my friends about how I feel Animal Crossing is a game that has not been given the full attention by Nintendo that its deserved over the years. Mostly I can look back on this statement and say that it was due to limitations from the previous consoles that it was on. I was just discussion how I will get a 3ds and a Wii U if they put Animal Crossing on it, so of course I was throwing out ideas for what I would love to see on it.... then it dawned on me... the most awesome idea to take Animal Crossing in.  Have any of you created a Steam Account and noticed that you have a game called Team Fortress 2? Valve will make promotions for pre-ordering games by giving you a themed hat from that game to your Team Fortress 2 account. Does anyone see where I'm going with this yet? Why not make an Animal Crossing game for the Wii U that capitalizes on this! Here is a perfect example: You buy Rayman on the Wii U versus buying it on Xbox or Playstation. The game will have a code in it that you will register onto your Wii account showing that you now own Rayman in your Wii U library. The next time you play Animal Crossing on the Wii U and check your mailbox you find a Rayman piece of furniture!
In fact... if Nintendo did set this process up by it being a one time code to your Wii system, it would be another perk for buying the game new versus a preowned copy!

Animal Crossing is already a day one purchase for me, but this would make it even more so! I mean, didn't Nintendo use to do something where a game (I don't remember which one?) scanned your memory card for a save of another game and gave you an achievement/trophy for it? ... was it Smash Bros. that scanned for a Pikmin save?

I love animal crossing, but until Nintendo can think outside the paradigm of n64 Japanese animal crossing then its never going to be purchased by me again because it will be the same damn thing. Much of the game was built around limitations of n64 hardware, but sequels seem to be acting like that limitation is still there. The gamecube version got a pass because it was a port and my first animal crossing experience, but the Wii version looked like more of the same.

Good Memory.

It was indeed Pikmin in Melee.

I won't buy another Animal Crossing game unless I'm convinced it is a very substantial upgrade from the previous one. I've only bought/played the ones for the GC and DS and I was disappointed and felt ripped off for having bought what was essentially the same game twice. That's why I've passed on the Wii version, and will also pass on any Wii U/3DS version as well, unless I'm really convinced its a huge and meaningful upgrade.

Actually, you don't even need a code to do this.  Nintendo just has Animal Crossing check your save data memory.  If you have the game then you get a new present in the mail.  If you have to put the code in then it isn't that Animal Crossing magical feel.

Nintendo should totally do this...and they can promote it through several means.  Ubisoft has tons of games coming at launch.  What if each game gives you a part of a set of furniture or clothes.  Then if you buy all of the games to complete that set you get it.  Of course you can always trade and gift sets.  This is obviously more powerful with Nintendo games, as you can see buying Mario Wii, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis could get you a complete Mario outfit or furniture.  This could even be a larger deal by opening it up to WiiU ware and virtual console.

Take the code out of the equation and its a great idea.

Actually, what Nintendo should do is promote games by giving each new game a three-furniture set. Then when the game comes out everybody gets the same one item to start them off from the set as free dlc. Then when they own the game and AC either reads their save data or otherwise recognizes the purchase, they get one of the other two items chosen by random. For the last item that they don't have, they need to ask their AC friends to gift it to them!

It's like... a DLC promotion, plus something like your idea here sweatfeathery... plus POKEMON!

I've never played an AC game, but I'm familiar enough with it's premise and mechanics that I can see this working really very well.

To get me interested in Animal Crossing Nintendo has to start from scratch.  Their approach thus far has been to just add-on to the existing title.

Why does Animal Crossing have to have a fixed camera angle?  Couldn't they make such a game full 3D?  Think how cool it would be to wander around a town like that.  I find that the towns in Zelda or Xenoblade feel more alive because with their moving camera I feel like I can truly explore and interact.  Back when I first played Animal Crossing this is what I thought a sequel would be like and I was very disappointed when City Folk was basically a glorified remake.

A lot can be done with the concept but Nintendo just adds minor features.  Think of where you can take Animal Crossing with the Wii U hardware.

The way I would overhaul Animal Crossing is make it into an MMORPG and have it include an all star cast of all Nintendo characters, sorta like Smash Bros.

Interesting idea, could see this being especially popular with first party titles.  People love anything Mario, Zelda, etc.  Also agree with the idea of the game checking for a save instead of having to input a code.  The only problem is that people wouldn't need to own the game to get the in game reward (could rent, borrow from friend, etc) which obviously isn't really a problem for the gamer but I could see Nintendo wanting to make it so that you need to own the game.  If they wanted to do that, maybe they could tie it to Club Nintendo since anyone who would be interested would probably be registering all of their games there anyway.  Or they could just be nice and do it by checking for a save file.

Also agree with others that they need to do something new with Animal Crossing for me to care.  I put so much time into the first game and had so much fun with it but couldn't convince myself to buy either the DS or Wii versions because they were so much of the same.  It was fun once but I don't want to repeat that same experience again.

I personally find Animal Crossing a lot like Pokemon. I LOVE both series, but I'm finding it extremely hard to keep playing them when I get them nowadays. I've almost given up on Pokemon, but AC is still a day one for me though. I still believe that I can rekindle that love.
