Star Wars Kinect
« on: April 02, 2012, 01:24:52 AM »
I'm flabbergasted after watching the dancing sections of Star Wars Kinect.  I'm not much of a Star Wars fan but its like watching a trainwreck that's shaking its ass in your face.  They are hilarious in their awfulness.  I picture a lot new Star Wars Kids appearing after big fat kids get caught dancing with emperor Palpatine.

Just watch these videos and be amazed.

There were also 10 studios and over 200 people that worked on it to make it happen.

Man... When Mario does it DDR it's awesome! When fake Mario does it Just Dance it's still awesome. When Han Solo does it, it's just painful.

I saw people playing this at comicon and I just felt bad for the reps demoing the game, trying their hardest to make it seem like the most amazing thing ever.

ok, I just watched the video......

WTF was that!? I thought this was an onrails fighting game?
when did they change it to Star Wars Just Dance w/ Custom Star Wars remixes of popular songs?
"I ain't no hologram girl" by Gwen Stefani? really?

I take it that it's become a hybrid game of sorts and the dance portion only takes place during certain parts of the game?

The commercials for the game consists solely of the dancing bits and pod-racing.

After seeing the videos, I had to watch something to cleanse the palette.

That ended up being the Star Wars Holiday Special.

I have nothing against dancing games. (Secretly, I like them quite a bit.)

I am a Star Wars fan who doesn't think that the series needs to be taken seriously all the time. People complain about the prequels, but they really weren't that bad.

But this?  No. I don't want this. I don't want to see YouTube links and definitely don't want to play it.  If real music tracks were used instead of weak-ass revisions, I'd be ok. [Edit: thinking about it more, this is what bugs me. I don't really care about the Star Wars part, but hate seeing the music one-offs. What possible incentive do I have to pick this over Dance Central?]  If it made meaningful use of the Star Wars license, I'd be ok. But what I just saw?  No.

Presumably this is only part of the game and the on-rails stuff is also still included?  Are there other game modes that might save this travesty?

@BnM

Here's what was said in the description of "Im Han Solo"

Quote
Kinect Star Wars is a little like Kinect Adventures where you have various types of games to play.

I think this is hilarious. Star Wars has gotten worse and worse accept for the sometimes great 'Clone Wars'. So a spoof like this wasn't all that unpredictable. And I actually think the lyrics are decently clever.

Ahahaha and the dude dancing to "Hologram girl" just makes it even more hysterical, especially when he poses at the end.

Ah, y'all need to lighten up. It's called fun. Remember that?
I am a huge SW fan. I think this stuff is just fine. It may exist. I am not offended. In fact, I am damn jealous that I don't have a kinect (or X-Box for that matter.) This and the two recent Disney offferings make me want one.

Best part is Jabba rockin out in the background of Hologram Girl. That's funny and clever and, y'know, fun.

Ya know, I'm usually pretty stuffy and serious about Star Wars blasphemes. For example, I think We As A People should rise up and raid Skywalker Ranch and get the non-special editions of the original trilogy out of Lucas' evil grasp. But this? I think this is hilarious. It's just SO shameless, and proud of it. I laugh hysterically every time someone tweets about it. The best part of the Han Solo vid is Lobot in the background DJing. Amazing, miraculous stuff right there. If you're gonna do something like this, this is the only way to do it.

Some more videos for your viewing pleasure/horror.

Darth Vader vs. the Emperor

Boba Fett dancing to the Empire Today (YMCA)

A Princess in a Battle.

We no speak Americano in made up Star Wars language.

It gets more hilarious when you notice all the dance moves have some sort of Star Wars name based on how they look.

After hearing a lot about this I finally decided to check out some videos of the dancing stuff on YouTube.  I watched it with my brother and there was about two seconds of laughter and then it became awfully silent and awkward like watching someone embarrass themselves.  We were hoping it would be so bad it would be funny but it actually was just BAD.  My brother actually got mad and turned it off.  He's not some big Star Wars fan I would expect to get all worked up so I asked him why he was so offended.

When we were kids, before the prequels and special editions, Star Wars was really cool.  It's long gone off the rails to the point that none of my brothers and I would describe ourselves as Star Wars fans.  We're fans of the original trilogy and essentially nothing from 1997 onwards.  My brother pointed out that seeing this stupid dance game just really emphasized how SHITTY Star Wars now is and how that sucks.  It was like this was the breaking point for him.  He couldn't laugh, he could only get MAD.

Star Wars Kinect is also the perfect storm of annoying mainstream pandering suck.  Aside from Star Wars suckiness it also has motion control and shitty mainstream pop music.  The very concept that ANYONE would like this was depressing to him (and kind of depressing to me when I think about it).  Essentially anyone who likes Star Wars Kinect would be the exact opposite of my brother in virtually every way.  Star Wars Kinect is everything wrong with movies, videogames and music today in one package!

I don't think anyone expected it to be good, and the reviews are brutal. GameTrailers said pretty much the only good part is the dancing game since it just copies Dance Central.
