After several sites commented on Nintendo's next console (now dubbed "Project Café"), Miyamoto expressed his thoughts on the matter, saying that Nintendo is always working on new hardware.

In an interview offered by French site Gameblog, Shigeru Miyamoto discussed many things going on at Nintendo. He confirms that he is still working on the next Pikmin, a title long in development since it was announced at E3 in 2008. He also re-confirms that he is working on the next Mario game and the next Mario Kart game for the 3DS. He notes that the tail shown on the Super Mario logo at GDC is indeed related to the Tanooki powers from Super Mario Bros. 3.

When asked about the Zelda franchise, he says that Nintendo will celebrate the series' anniversary this year, much like they did last year with Super Mario. Miyamoto mentions that there will be products commemorating the release of the first game in the series.

In addition, Miyamoto mentions that Nintendo is working on new AR games for the 3DS. However, he didn't mention if they were going to be downloadable titles or retail games.

Finally, Miyamoto made comments about Project Café, the alleged name of Nintendo's next system. He notes that Nintendo believes research and development on new consoles takes about five years to become interesting. He says that Nintendo is always working on new hardware and experiments that the public will never see, making the comment that "where there's smoke there's fire". He, however, warns readers that "you shouldn't believe everything you read", most likely referencing the stream of rumors about the system that started circulating the internet last week.

I am definitely not IGN's biggest fan, especially in recent years. But it's pretty obvious that the site is very, very well connected with companies and developers. They have multiple sources on multiple levels all confirming a lot of the same things. Whether these sources have only been shown concepts or locked in features is hard to say but I think there's definitely a lot to the things IGN has been publishing.

Yeah, the rumors are getting way out of hand. I do believe that the system will be powerful in terms of tech as it is expected out of a next generation system. But the rumors about the controller having a six inch HD screen and the system being able to stream games onto it sounds like what fans WANT out of the system

Not saying that Nintendo isn't capable of pulling this off, but it's unlike Nintendo to release a huge console that costs nearly 500 dollars with technology that sounds like a fantasy.

I believe that the next system will indeed be the Wii 2. Much like how the PS2 was a expansion of the PSone, the system will retain some of the ideas present on the Wii (Miis, friend codes, motion controls), but they will be polished and streamlined so it accommodates both the needs of the core gamer and third parties as well as their own needs and the casual gamer. Like I said on the Wii 2 thoughts feature, I doubt Nintendo is going to completely abandon the casual market as that has been very profitable in the last few years. Rather, much like the 3DS, they will balance it out, and hopefully be more aggressive when marketing it.

I do think that the Cafe's rumored abilities might be more wishful thinking than anything...  BUT I don't think Nintendo will release a Wii2 like Pedro is suggesting. They've always been about the "surprise," the new idea. I doubt they'd put out a similar system to the Wii, only more refined, etc. But the $$$s don't lie, so maybe I'm just letting my excitement about crazy 6" touchscreen controllers get the best of me.

If you read all the rumors (and I think we know that I have), then you would realize that it is supposedly a 6.2" sub-HD screen @ about 800x500.

You'll also know that they aren't using 5 year old tech, they aren't using Xbox360 parts. They are supposedly using a similar setup of a triple core cpu, not the 360, tricore CPU, but one with a much newer one that is possibly improved PPC with cell technology.

There are also hints in interviews from Miyamoto and Iwata about lessening the need for the TV or not needing the TV at all. Then there was also the comment about a touchscreen controller prototype before the Wii was released that was scrapped to stick with the wiimote design for now.

I think Miyamoto has to downplay these rumors. Hype can be a good thing, but exaggerative hype is detrimental.

That is how I interpret them as well but you got to admit some of these rumors are safe. HD,Blu Ray Disk, As powerful as a PS3, Retro being one of the first to get a development kit.These really are not that news worthy because its kinda a given. The rest of the rumors are kinda out there.

I've seen rumors for both as powerful and more powerful than the PS3 so I'm lowballing it.
Its not that any of these rumors matter much Nintendo could do something entirely different than these rumors.
