Good camcorder
« on: February 05, 2011, 12:53:40 AM »
I am looking to get a good camcorder (with camera functions too). I want one that is relatively cheap, under $200, and would like it to be compact if possible (like a flip one). I don't know anything about technical specs though, does anyone here have any recommendations? It would be for personal use, so I don't need anything like 12 megapixels or stuff like that which professionals would want.

Look at Amazon and Newegg. Reading the reader reviews is a great way to get a feel for something. I recently bought a HD Sony camcorder, but it was more than $200.

Sanyo Xacti line has been great for me. It's small, shoots clean video, you can wear it around your neck, and it loads up quickly.

I'm actually about to upgrade to the waterproof version.

That video was incredible. The GoPro has one hell of an image stabilization or was that because it was mounted?

Anyway Imma still go with the Sanyo VPC-ca102yl if I can ever find it (sold out er'where), simply because I do not need to carry an underwater case around with me.

There's a whole set of mounts for the GoPro. Some come bundled with the camcorder, or if you want other types of mounts they sell them separately.

One thing to note is that the GoPro does not have an LCD screen in the back, so you can't see what you're shooting. They did just add an LCD accessory to their list recently.

They have more videos by the way: http://gopro.com/videos/ (click through the tabs - TV Commercials, Moto, Auto, Surf, Snow, Skate, Bike, Paddle, Flight.)

One more thing. This father and son project used this camera for their high altitude balloon: http://www.brooklynspaceprogram.org/BSP/Space_Balloon.html
