I started playing some GBA games again on my DS and every time the GBA cart boots, as the GBA logo and chime play, I instinctively expect to hear the haunting music of the first Castlevania released for the system (Circle of the Moon) even thought I haven't played the game itself for years. So this got me thinking of what games I instinctively think of when I boot other systems up and why. Circle of the Moon was the first game I got for the GBA so that makes sense. But a few are from later years of systems or even just the company logo of some 3rd parties.

Here's how it is on the other systems:

NES - The silent SMB3 intro (I never knew why there was no sound or music in the beginning of the game ???)
SNES - Capcom Logo/Chime
N64 - Super Mario 64 opening
Gamecube - Eternal Darkness opening
GB - Yoshi (the strange puzzle game)
GBC - Link's Awakening DX
Wii & DS - Their boot menus (sad, huh?)
Genesis/Mega Drive - "SEGA!"

So I ask y'all this: What game intro/music/splash screen do you instinctively expect to hear when you boot up a respective system and why? And do you think this reveals something to you about what type of gamer you are?

C64: Katakis or Giana Sisters
SNES: Super Mario World (especially the title screen because of in-store demos)
Game Boy: Tied between Donkey Kong '94 and Tetris (the latter mostly because of all the demo kiosks in stores)
Gamecube: Super Mario Sunshine (was my first game for it and quite impressive at the start, what I remember the most was the first level at the airport because that's what I played down in the livingroom back when I got the GC)
Wii: Wii Sports (a demo of that is what convinced my father to pay for a preorder)
Game Boy Color: Pokemon Red (it's not even a full GBC game but I mostly used the GBC for GB games anyway)
Game boy Advance: No immediate association
DS: No immediate association

Interesting topic here Stratos, I like it.

Let's see...

NES: that low frequency hum i'd here when the game wouldn't start up and random colors would flash on the screen. Then the sound of the cartridge being pulled out, blown into and reinserted. Usually SMB3's intro would come after that.

SNES: Mostly the capcom chime (which i miss by the way) because I was always playing either SSFII:T with my cousin or MMX when I was alone. The little chirp at the start of ALttP is a close second though...

N64: After the 100% completion of Mario 64, the one game that recieved the most plays on this system was probably golden eye so i always associate that games intro with that era.

GCN: Has to be the boot up sequence. Its the first thing you hear no matter what game you're playing. Besides that, there's no one game i played more than another.

Wii: See above, then again I've been playing so much RFF that the opening notes to that game's intro might take this spot soon enough.

Saturn: I only really had two games that I bought myself for this system (it was a gift, with a few crappy games) and those were Megaman 8 and X4 so those new capcom intro's are what I remember from my short time with this system.

Gb/DS are like the GCN and Wii; their boot up sound is what I remember the most.

SNES: Super Mario World.  EasyCure had a good suggestion with the Capcom chime but if I was to asked to start humming SNES music the Super Mario World theme would probably enter my head first.

Genesis: Really crappy sounding power chords.  Not specific to a game just that standard Genesis music sound.  Someone once described Genesis music as sounding like someone crushing a beer can.

N64: Super Mario 64 theme inside the castle.  Only not from the N64 itself but from Donkey Kong Country 3.  Wrinkly Kong is sometimes playing that game when you go to save it plays that music but because it's the SNES the sound quality is much better so that's the version that pops in my head.

PS: Final Fantasy VII opening theme.

GBA: Fire Pro Wrestling opening theme.  The GBA was more or less my FPW machine.  I waited YEARS for that series to be localized.

Gamecube: Startup jingle.

PS2: Fire Pro Wrestling Returns.  A console Fire Pro and thus the GBA was retired as my FPW machine.

DS: No association.

Wii: The Wii menu ambient music.

PS3: Too new.  No association yet.

DS- SM64 DS
Genesis - Sonic title screen and music
Saturn: Salamander
PS One: Crash Bandicoot (not a good game to think of)
GBA- SMA4: SMB3
Game Gear- A headache
PS2- Kingdom Hearts 2
Xbox- Halo
Xbox 360- Kameo
PS3- Movie player of both DVDs and blu-ray movies
Wii- Wii Sports

Good topic. Hmmmm

Comodore - Baseball
NES - Back to the Future ( I was poor and bought a bad game. Pressed through it)
SNES- Ultraman( first game I bought. Oh man. It was horrible. But I wouldn't admit it and played through it anyway)
N64 - The obvious. Mario 64. It was like magic in a box. I was totally entranced)
Original Game Boy - Marioland
PC - Sam n Max Hit the Road
Wii - Mario Kart (knowing a new one would come eventually pushed me to buy a Wii)
PS3 - Uncharted 1 ( somthing about those lush green textures)
DS - Layton
Don't hate me, hate the money I see, clothes that I buy
Ice that I wear, clothes that I try....

NES: The Mega Man! I'm still amazed that some of the most intricate and melodic music I've ever heard exists on an 8-bit MIDI.

Super NES: Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Super Maro RPG. I have a ritual with Earthbound where I play through it but once a year, that way it is special every time. In fact, October is the month I play so I should probably get started on that. I believe this is the seventh year.

I find myself inexplicably whistling the music from Chrono Trigger from time to time, and Super Mario RPG is the epic first Mario RPG which also has good music.

Nintendo 64: Too much stuff to name, not even going to try.

GameCube: Super Smash Brothers Melee of course. Still my favourite game on the system.

Wii: The craziness of Mario Kart Wii, and the unexpected hit of Animal Crossing. There is unfortunately one negative association with this system, and that's that it has the one and only game I've ever truly felt the extreme emotion of hatred toward: Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

Game Boy: Wario Land, the one and only Game Boy game I had for a while. Technically it was my brother's, but it counts.

Game Boy Color: Zelda? I guess. I kind of skipped this system and went straight to the Game Boy Advance.

Game Boy Advance: Ports and remakes.

Nintendo DS: Hand cramps.

Sega Genesis: Despite how long it has been since this system broke, I still remember the music for Blaster Master 2. But that's all...

PlayStation: The tunes I composed using the MTV Music Generator.

XBox: FUUUUUUSION FREEEENZY!

NES: Super Mario Bros. First game ever.
SNES: Contra 3. Throw in the Konami jingle and you have yourself a winner.
N64: Goldeneye / Perfect Dark. Spent so/too must time playing them.
Sega Saturn: Virtual Cop 2. More Pew pew, less QQ.
GC: Star Wars: Rogue Squadron: Rogue Leader. The gfx in this game still blows me away. Even my new computer that totally blows it away in raw horse power still doesn't quite match it. Between this and Jedi Knight 2, is my Gold standards for Star Wars games.
GameBoy: Tetris and that Russian song.
GBA: ???. Nothing of note really. I sort of half regret buying this.
DS: Mario Kart DS. Best Mario Kart ever. Until the next one.
PC: History is far too long for me to associate it with anything solid. It's more of a list.

NES - Super Mario Bros.
SNES - Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
Genesis (I never owned one, but...) - "Seeeeegaaaaaaa!" (that old sound clip that Sega used to use before all its games...I miss that)
N64 - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
GameCube - Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Wii - Collecting Dust.
PS3 - Valkyria Chronicles.

GB: Super Mario Land
First game I owned, first game I loved. Still have it.

GBC: Link's Awakening
COLOR DUNGEON, BABY!

GBA: Circle of the Moon
Couldn't see ****, but was that ever a good game. Tycho is right: the bathroom provides the optimal lighting conditions for the original GBA.

GBASP: Mario & Luigi 1
Just because it spends a LOT of time in there.

DS: Dawn of Sorrow
One of my first DS games, and I still play it today. Hasn't held up as well as Aria (which is wierd).

PSP: Patapon
PON PON PATA PON / PON PON PATA PON / PON PON...

NES (broken): Super Mario Bros. 3
Best game ever made? No doubt.

SNES: Yoshi's Island
Most aethetically brilliant game on the system? No doubt.

N64: Super Mario 64
Best 3D platformer ever made? Very possibly.

GameCube: Wind Waker
I spent many a college school night staying up into the wee hours of the night exploring the sea. This ranks right up there with SMB3 for me.

Wii: Nothing automatically
Probably too soon to tell.

Dreamcast: Crazy Taxi
I never play it anymore, but I love my DC. Crazy Taxi represents what the Dreamcast is: a wonderful machine with beautiful arcade ports. It's like having a movie theater arcade in your living room.

PS2: God of War
Blew my mind five years ago, still blows my mind today.

PS3: MGS4
It's what I bought before I bought the system.

Xbox: DoAX Beach Volleyball
Because it's the only game I own. Also, and this is rarely mentioned, it has bewbies.
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.
