Is Metroid Prime Trilogy seriously it?  I'm very disappointed in that.

Yep They put the project of porting three game in the hands of their whole studio which is around 60 people. Seriously Ian, do you know what you sound like sometimes?

Not to derail, but can anyone tell me if Miyamoto's roundtable is being streamed anywhere?

Well, Nintendo certainly made some big strides this year talking about actual games this year instead of glorifed toys, and from an objective perspective they did everything they needed to do.  They announced some big titles, hyped titles that needed hyping (Conduit), hyped the DSi, and threw in a big announcement at the end (Metroid: Other M).  Honestly, though, I came away from this conference rather indifferent.  Yeah, they announced 2 new Mario games, but neither really excite me as sequels to games I didn't particularly find thrilling either.  I'm very troubled by the thought of the legendarily sadistic Team Ninja making this new Metroid and I'm not thrilled with this new direction, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt for the moment.  Seriously, though, where was Zelda Wii and Pikmin 3?  Or something different like a Good (if I could bold that, underline it, add astericks, and top it off with big glowing neon signs I would) Star Fox game, or something completely new and interesting altogether?

Like I said, Nintendo did what it needed to do.  It just didn't have much this year that excites me that we didn't already know about.  Sure a hell of a lot better than Sony and Microsoft did this year, though.
There was a Signature here. It's gone now.

The thing is that Sony NEEDED to have a great conference, Nintendo and MS not so much (especially Nintendo) and to be outclassed by both does not look good.

I was expecting Nintendo to have more WMP stuff to basically say "WMP is the future of ALL gaming and here's a number of games that will make you forget there is anything else out there", instead they only reiterated mostly known stuff.

Ian: They showed all those third party games and the one you complain about is Metroid? What about Red Steel 2? That's a new IP for veteran gamers (I refuse to call it core, it has abandoned the core ideals and is moving towards the new market which, unlike what some idiots say, is NOT defined as casual gaming) developed by a third party that couldn't be done on the Gamecube. What about The Conduit? FPS sucks on dual analogs. Can also add The Grinder. Sin & Punishment 2? I played S&P1 on the GC controller, it was cumbersome. Yeah, sure, these were announced before E3 but the same goes for Microsoft's conference (except for their stupid gimmick Natal and yes, it's a gimmick while the Wii is not because Natal only has gimmick software, stuff you play for 5 minutes, the Wii has REAL games that you'd pay money for). MS and Sony can only show third party stuff and often it's not even exclusive (compare that to Nintendo, I think ALL of these games were exclusives, they didn't have to fish in their cross-platform bin to find anything worthwhile or declare how great they are because they have ONE exclusive DLC song for Rockband Beatles).

Seriously, Ian, your standards are completely unreasonable, MS didn't even reach Nintendo's level and you call Nintendo inadequate? Even if we say Galaxy was a completely unnecessary sequel MS's two biggest games were Halo yet again. Nintendo is expected to show sequels to EVERY franchise that they've ever started in their lifetime AND new IPs all at one E3 while MS gets called the winner of the show because they show two sequels to one franchise that has about enough ideas to warrant two entries total and a bunch of cross platform stuff by third parties that is the n-th entry to an existing franchise that was started less than 5 years ago. They shove the same games down our throats over and over again and get lauded for novelty! What new IPs did MS have, not counting their mock-ups (Milo was not even shown behind closed doors, Molyneaux is notorious for making **** up on the spot, I call that vaporware)? Alan Wake was the only one that wasn't a sequel and that has been known (and in development) forever and the result looks like yet another third person shooter where the gimmick is that you have to point your crosshairs at an enemy for a few seconds before pulling the trigger. The MS press conference was so damn boring I pulled out my DS to pass the time!

Honestly, I thought the MS one sucked the most of the three... mostly because I don't think their camera will EVER see the light of day, and I think that virtual boy (pun intended) Molyneueadx showed was totally canned and fake.  If that crap was real they'd be winning AI awards for computer science excellence... not showing it as a glorified tamagotchi at E3.

Even though Assassin's Creed is multiplatform, the demo done at Sony's really paid dividends.  The FF 14 announcement was a shocker (even though it will probably end up multiplattform too).  I have the same opinion of their motion controller that I do of MS's.  Oh yeah, and the Gran Turismo news of adding rally and nascar was really interesting too, especially after Forza 3's obvious run at that series during MS's.

So yeah, I'd probably put them Nintendo > Sony > MS.  I honestly can't believe that neither Sony or MS trotted Jack Black up on stage to talk about Brutal Legend... that's probably my most anticipated game of the year, with both Wii Sports Resort and NSMB:Wii coming in a close second and third.

Realistically, the game will be extremely lucky to sell 500K copies across all systems.  Neither company is going to give up time on multimillion-copy franchises for this game.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Actually even the FFXIV announcement was already known. It was just known by the name Rapture.

It was weird, but the Nintendo conference just seemed incomplete, and just kinda abruptly ended. but they were just slinging out game after game and didn't even cover them all. I'm still shocked that they didn't promote sales numbers for atleast 5 minutes.

MS conference wasn't that bad, but we already knew everything coming, and while the tech behind Pre-Natal is interesting, that human-pet simulator did seem very pre-scripted.

Sony's conference started off soooo boring, but finally picked up during the last 30 minutes after the 10minute barrage of games (new & old) that they didn't even bother to label. I still find it funny that they are the only one to focus on "record sales" out of the 3, since they posted their first loss in 14 years last fiscal year. I really like the demonstration that Sony put on with their glow-sticks. Bow and arrow and shield and sword made me think nothing but ZELDA ZELDA ZELDA while they were doing it.

for me

Nintendo>  >  >Sony> MS

I wasn't particularly blown away by any of the three conferences, but Nintendo is the only one that seem to leave me wanting and expecting more.
and from everything shown games wise, Metroid Gaiden was my game of the conferences.

From a potential sales perspective it goes:

Nintendo >>> MS >> Sony    (I think we all know why.  Wii Fit will continue to rock it, consumers will balk at the PSP, and MS will continue to move units)

From a presentation standpoint it goes:

Nintendo >>> MS >> Sony  (Most would put MS on top, but I subtracted 250 points for the pretentious wanna be soulless Tom Cruis knock off, in addition to "Kudo" acting like he just invented the internet.  And Sony, well, aside from the live Uncharted and GOW3 demo, it was just dry.)

From a "games for the core" perspective it goes:

Depends what you're looking for.  Yay, everyone wins  ;D

Final Tally:

That said, considering Nintendo wins 2, and its a best of 3 series, they are the undisputed winner of the "Make Believe Best in Show contest".  Not bad Nindy, not bad.
