Monster Games Working On Secret Project
« on: December 01, 2008, 11:07:33 AM »
The developers of Excite Truck are currently working on a project for Nintendo that is so secret that computer screens must be darkened when deliverymen stop by.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=17267

Locally Grown Northfield, a blog that focuses on the town of Northfield, Minnesota, had an interview with Monster Games' founder Richard Garcia last month. In the interview, Garcia confirmed that the small development house has been "working on a top-secret video game for Nintendo" for the past two years. The unannounced game is reportedly almost finished and is so secret that "the designers must darken their monitors when the bottled-water deliveryman enters the office."

Monster Games developed the Wii launch game, Excite Truck, and has a history of developing racing games. The obvious guess at what this secret project is would be Excite Truck 2, but it could be another Nintendo racing IP, like F-Zero, or a new IP all together. Since the game is almost finished, details should be available soon enough.

Since it's not coming out this year, this game must be HARDCORE.

And extreme.
It would be anticlimactic if it were Excitetruck 2. Maybe its Excite Bike &Truck!

It's possible this is now Nintendo may cycle things in future. Hardcore period (2008 ish), then a not-so-much-period(late 2008 into 2009?).

Umm hardcore period doesn't start till Feb. 2009 (House of the Dead).  Wii has been casual grandma gaming up until now (2 years, 3 holiday seasons).  We might see two upcoming years of hardcore.

Curious.

I doubt it's F-Zero because F-Zero has all but completely melted into obscurity. :(

I highly doubt any water-delivery men would recognize it.

EXCITE TRUCK 2 POR FAVOR!!!

I'd also settle for Excite Boat, Excite Plane, or Excite Rocket.

Meh, this reeks of PR B.S. to me.  It reminds me strikingly of the "TEH MEGATON!" hype from so many years ago.  As like is not, they're just developing a run-of-the-mill game that they want to drum up the hype for, and they know that traditional Wii gamers are desperate for just about anything at this point.  I'd like to be wrong on this, but it will probably be something incredibly unimpressive like Excite Truck 2 or Excite Bike.

...Why is Excite Truck 2 unimpressive?

I doubt it will be something groundbreaking, but it's nice to know that they are working on something of some importance, even if its something as predictable as a follow-up to Excite Truck.

All hinty/secretive [Nintendo] news is "MEGATON", no matter how insignificant the result.  That way, there will never be another "real" "megaton" again.

That is the law the internet has written.

It's unimpressive because it is so predictable, and just about the only thing the first game was notable for was the ability to play your own MP3s off the SD Card.

Excite Truck is probably the best game to come out of the launch. A sequel would be a lot of fun.

Please keep these coming.

I'm worried that this is a dev known for racers, as what kinda racer should need so much secrecy? Still though it is fun to speculate. I still think it'll be a Starfox Racer ;)

Oh, but you're so wrong!  Have you actually played Excite Truck?  It's an incredibly fun game that has held up remarkably well beyond the launch-game-glow phase.

EasyCure, all Nintendo-published games have that veil of secrecy, regardless of genre, predictable sequels, etc.  It's a corporate policy.

Oh trust me i know. I dont expect anything mind blowing, but its fun to speculate.

Completely agree with the excitetruck statement too.
