The first time I saw UFC I thought it was boring. Most of the fights ended up with two guys on the ground wrestling. I recently watched the PPV UFC fight at a friends house. I wasn't particularly interested, but I thought "whatever, I'll give it my full attention and another chance."

Man...this **** is sooo crazy. That "wrestling" is actually two people trying to get each others limbs into breakable situations; well that, or they trying to choke each other out.

But it wasn't until I saw this fight that I really became a fan.

Anderson Silva, a black belt jujitsu striker, is from Brazil, has an undefeated record and is the champion of his class. No one wanted to fight him anymore, so he moved up a class to fight people 15-20 lbs heavier. From the fight I linked to, his first fight in a higher class mind you, I am now convinced that this guy is the next Mohammed Ali. He is the fastest, most technically skilled fighter I have ever seen. He destroys people.

His matches are only going to get better as he vies for the chance to take his second belt in a heavier class.

Forrest Griffin needs experience, and he's not much of a technical fighter. He's a like a noob within the UFC. Silva has been there for quite some time, and he definitely got lucky to fight such a rookie. Silva's good, but I think he's pushing his luck if he thinks he can get so cocky.

I watch UFC off and on. Brock Lesnar is fascinating to watch as is Matt Hughes. Silva is so good especially when he locks his hands behind a guy's head.

By the way, Silva has 4 losses. He does have the longest running win streak, 10.

I just kept on reading Silva's wiki page. I'm not impressed. Of all the fighters he's fought, none of them seem to be well known. He's supposed to fight St.Pierre, but it hasn't been decided yet, and that would be a good match to watch.

I checked on Griffin, and I'm surprised that he actually got this far. In fact I'm surprised at the way he lost, as it didn't seem like his usual fighting style. He's usually a bit more aggressive, and smarter in his fights. I still consider him a rookie though.

UFC was better and worse back in the day. It was better, because there were basically no rules, and you could repeatedly strike someone in the testicles and break arms and legs and whatnot - it was worse, because there were basically no rules, and you could repeatedly strike someone in the testicles and break arms and legs and whatnot. I'm a Brock Lesnar fan ever since he debuted WWE. Silva is great, as is GSP, but the most badass dude I've seen is Lioto Machida. Ramage Jackson vs Forrest Griffin was great, but mainly just because of when asked what happened in the fight, Jackson replied "Forrest Griffin whooped my ass".

Strikeforce. Fedor is going to Strikeforce too, probably so he can be in EA's game and get ****-tons of money.

How did we manage to get eight posts into this thread with no one linking to this image?

Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Because that's not what it's like at all, at least not matches that feature good fighters.

Here watch this video of Gina Carano getting the crap beat out of her the other day. At the risk of sounding sexist, MMA is a man's sport. I'm sure there are plenty of great female martial arts fighters, but none of them are on TV.

The Penny Arcade comic doesn't make that much sense (it's like they watched one match) but the LOOK of those fighters is dead-on.  My brother makes two sports jokes.  The first is his impression of a basketball game where he just makes the sounds of shoes squeeking on the floor.  And the second is that all MMA fighters have tribal tattoos and receding hairlines.

I enjoy MMA though I don't seek it out.  It's more of a "oh look what's on" channel surfing thing.  Sadly a real lack of the appeal for me is the culture of it.  The vast majority of the fighters come across as the sort of douchebags I could not STAND to meet in real life.  Go to a bar to check out a PPV and it attracts the exact same sort of audience.  I don't like a lot of the MMA fans I meet.  Not crapping on all MMA fans.  But assholes are going to enjoy a sport that involves people beating the **** out of each other.  Just like how Nascar is going to attract the car crash idiots and as a hockey fan I encounter a fair share of goon fans that just watch for fights and violence.  You don't have to be an asshole or a douchebag to like it but it's the kind of sport assholes and douchebags are going to LOVE so the fanbase is full of them.  Ditto with the fighters.  What sort of person is going to be interested in taking up a sport that involves fighting?  You're going to get your fair share of unlikable pricks checking it out.

im a Cain Velasquez fan, mainly because we went to school together. I may have had weight training class with him, but i just don't remember high school well enough to say for sure. I do recall a big dude doing ridiculous weighted military presses in my class that was probably him. I guess one of my buddies went to one of his parties and he was talking about how Cain just had like a big head of lettuce and he'll just be sitting there eating it with a little salt.

from my junior year book

he's been working on his title shot, if he beats Shane Carwin, he'll get to fight Brock Lesnar. Which will be awesome. Bring it to Yuma!

You are correct.  I've been following Silva for three years now and he is definitely the closest thing to the "Michael Jordan of MMA".  Most fighters win a title, then get knocked up by the next in line.  Not Silva.  Not only does he continually defend his title, he crushes any foe that steps to challenge him.  He is above and beyond his contemporaries in natural talent and dedication.  This is why he recently moved up in weight class.  He became bored.  No challenge.

IMO the 2nd best fighter is George St. Pierre, Canada's finest export.

I'm a St. Pierre fan as well.  I just got in to the sport recently.  The intern I shared a cube with was way in to it, and he helped get me more in to it.

Anybody excited for Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights?  That **** is gonna be ridiculous.

I used to like him.  But he's turned into a prick ever since he converted to Christianity.  I have no beef with the religious, but he really walks around now like he's better than everyone else.  Damn shame, as he lives on a farm not too far from where I grew up, so I wanted to root for him.
