Let's hear it for Mark Hamill's greatest role!

The Joker!

I've been watching the Batman animated series right now and, besides turning my brain to mush, I must say that Mark Hamill will always be the Joker to me. Jack Nicholson should get some acting advice from Mark because Mark's portrayal is leagues above. I just find it so hard to believe that Mark is really the Joker. He will never do the voice in public. Conspiracy, maybe? Regardless, I must say I love it every time the Joker makes an appearance. You can't help but laugh and get caught up the mayhem the Joker is about to create. You somehow root for the man despite knowing he's a homicidal maniac and you laugh along with his exploits.

So kudos to you Mark. They should have cast you as the Joker in The Dark Knight movie. I think Mark even has the face for it.

Supposedly Hamill doesn't do the voice in public very often because he doesn't want people to lose the association between the voice and the look of the Joker.

Anyway, I agree that it's far and away his best role.

I think the thing about him as the Joker was it is so different from what you associate him with.

Sorry, but his best role is the Simpsons cameo where he sings "Luke Be a Jedi Tonight".

Indeed.  They lost their only chance to save The Dark Knight from complete suckitude.  Mask of the Phantasm remains the only good Batman movie.

Before I give you a kick in the nads, would you like to take that back and recognize both Subzero and (the uncut) Return of the Joker for the awesome movies they are?

Fine, I'll grant you Subzero, but only because I like the way they handle Mr. Freeze in the animated series.  I didn't know about the uncut Return of the Joker, but I wouldn't have counted it anyway since it's a Batman Beyond movie.  Mask of the Phantasm is still the best.

I may be wrong, but didn't Hammil play Joker in Birds of Prey, the short lived spinoff? (I think it is a super small part but I believe they were planning on getting him in it more)

I wouldn't even think to watch this movie if Christian Bale wasn't such a damn good Batman.

I agree, I do love everything about Mr. Freeze in TAS - perhaps that's why I'm partial to Sub Zero.  As for Return of the Joker - I guess I'll let you slide on that one, since it's "technically" a Batman Beyond movie.  The flashback sequence in it though is really quite awesome.  Do watch it sometime.

I never realized that Mask of the Phantasm was based off a Batman comic called Batman Year 2: Fear the Reaper which was a sequel to Frank Miller's Batman: Year 1. Although I don't think it follows the plot too closely.

The Batman Animated series also was responsible for one of the best video game adaptations of a TV property. The Adventures of Batman and Robin on the SNES. I loved that game and even with today's gaming standards, it's still a good game.

The funny thing about the Batman animated series is that they handled a lot of the lesser known villains better than some of the more famous. Maybe that's because the lesser villains had been so underdeveloped in the past. But Catwoman, Penguin, The Riddler, and even the Scarecrow just seem to lask something. Part of it might have to do with the fact that most of the episodes they appear in are too fantastic or lame. Some of the best episodes were when a villain was being introduced for the first time. Mr. Freeze, Clayface, The Ventriloquist, The Mad Hatter, Two Face. Even the Clock King. I love that guy.

I still have hopes for the new Batman movie. It's the movie I most want to see in 2008. Even if Indiana Jones comes out and there's another James Bond movie. The Dark Night is still the one I am most interested.

When Cartoon Network started airing Batman: The Animated Series, they ran an extremely cool ad for it made up of clips from a few episodes, notably one with the Scarecrow (I think it was his introductory episode, the one with the blimp) and the one with the evil psychiatrist who blackmailed people with recordings of their dreams.  I can't find it on youtube, toonamiarsenal.com doesn't have it, and my google searches just turn up other people asking about it.  It included some cleverly edited lines and scenes, kind of like this:

"What hidden terror keeps the Batman awake at night?"
"Why couldn't you save us, son?"
"A need filled you.  All consuming.  All controlling."
"Revenge!"
"I am Vengeance.  I am the Night.  I am BATMAN!"

Does anyone happen to know what I'm talking about and where to find it?
