well in the far future wiiconnect24 wouldnt really be around anymore for that system and even if it was i simply wouldnt connect my wii to the internet and use my VC games from the backups i made early (i dont know how many times i need to restate this) so i dont have to say "BYE BYE" to anything seis.

and for anyone talking about how hard copy of games is the only thing that will last.... in 30 years how many NESes will still be around that work good? or controllers/power adapters.. etc. basically you can hold on to the hardware and play it over and over, and _WHEN_ it eventually breaks down you might have to say "bye bye" to it cause there may not be a replacement system in the future.  this is the cheaper alternative, but not the most fail-safe.

Thats why i put my NES and SNES along with all the controllers/cords/games back in the original boxes and up in the attic where they will stay in hibernation for a looong time.  so when the time comes to bring them out to use again, they should work the same as when i first put them in the boxes, and in the meantime i will be playing perfect ROMs of the original on VC.  But to be honest im guessing VC will be backwards compatible with nintendos next next gen system anyway so its probabaly going to be all good.

i didnt think my english was that broken, though i could have structured my sentances a little better i guess.
Brandogg, im well aware of what i can do with the VC game data and i do plan on storing them on my HDD for backup purposes, and there will be a point in time where my wii will be destroyed (assuming the worst).  and when that day comes i may be able to get a replacement wii off ebay or something, but those servers would likely be down in the far future.

31 Flavas, i know this.. i am talking about the far future. but the point of the thread is how this new protection is coded and if it can be undone without modded the sodering a mod chip into the system.

But like i said its probably too early to ask such things now anyway.

Nintendo Gaming / Third Party Hacks for Transfering VC Games to Other Wiis
« on: December 01, 2006, 09:58:23 AM »

Here for the Details

Yes it is a trap but i require info:

Is there a person out here that knows if the protection setup for transfering VC titles on different wiis structured in such a way that it would be near impossible for a hack to enable this? Without having to open the system and soder in mod chips that is to say.

Maybe its too early to be asking such things, i was just curious if there are any real techies out there who already looked into this and found answers. if you know of anything please let me know.

The main reasons i would want this is not to transfer my data do a friend's wii, but as a security purpose so my $400+ investment into VC will be safe 40 years from now, assuming the servers will be down at this point in time, i would have multiple backups of my VC games safe and if my current Wii went on the frits i would have a backup wii i may get way down the line right before the system dies when they are nice and cheap.

Thanks again.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: NES/SNES pads on your Wii
« on: November 30, 2006, 04:30:53 AM »
i would rather buy a perfect remake of a NES/SNES with a gamecube jack in the end then using my older controllers... mainly because i dont think my older NES controllers are going to last too much longer. i dont have one where all the buttons and d-pads work the best.

if you are refering to me then no, i already told you that nintendo should charge the crappy games less and the more better games more.  However if NES pinball was something i played all the time as a kid and it had some kind of meaning to me worth keeping, then yes i would pay $5 for it.  However im sure most of us dont feel the same way and NES pinball shouldnt even be on there unless its going for $1-2, just for the sake of saying "hey the wii has some really cheap old school games that anyone can buy".

actually if i had to change the price plan I would have done it like this:
NES - $3
N64 - $12

Even though that looks better on paper, Nintendo wouldnt necessarly lose money on this, i.e. two NES games that sold for $3 is more than one that sold for $5, however we honestly dont know the profits Nintendo are making per VC game, and yes it takes time to emulate N64/Genesis games and the like and that development time costs money, the emulation needs to be near perfect bug free, same sound quality, etc... not to mention improved framerates for the wii hardware, so no it wasnt all done at one time awhile ago.  Plus the fact that each game has an instruction guide that comes with it that needs to be written out and tested for any glitches and all that.  Also the licensing issues for the developers of future games (you think they are going to get goldeneye for free?).. and the list goes on.

I dont like it when you say "oh its an old game so it only takes minutes and costs nothing" I'm sure there is very little you really know about how these types of things work in the buisness world, there are many many things that go into account here that you wouldnt think of.

keep in mind it does cost money to keep the servers running and bandwidth used to transfer the data, so as long as a game is on there it is costing some money one way or another, not to mention its quite foolish to think that it cost absolutly nothing to put a game on VC; man hours, re-emulating it for the wii hardware, configuring the controlls for the Retro Controller..etc. there _is_ a cost while probably not very high.

like i said before if they want to make a decent profit they are better off not making a single price for all games, but adjust them due to the game's popularity, keep zelda at $5 and reduce donkey kong to $2.  I believe this is called ellastic demand, change the price a little and you get results.

well its good to see there are some supporters out there, comments about using your NES 21 years from now im not sure i agree with, maybe i am being a little too paranoid, but i like to be prepared for the worst. The thing about NES pricing is that i would pay 8 bucks for the real good games like Mario 3 and about 2 dollars seems more appropriate short games like donkey kong.  Nintendo would then maximize their profit by being more flexable to the supply and demand curve.  But that is just me, and i think 10 bucks is a great deal for N64 games considering how much i hate the original controller and how crapy the most of the roms are.... Side note:

Good news! I have picked up a VC controller from walmart about an hour ago, feels great!
Pros:
*good overall feel, all buttons are pretty much easy to reach
*multiple Z buttons, at first i thought 3 was too many, but i can see how certain games use certain buttons more and you can easily adjust
*thumbstick feels much smoother and has more of a grip on it when compaired to the GC thumbstick

Cons:
*dont agree with cord placement/connecting it to wiimote, hopefully there will be an adapter to connect it straight to wii, i would prefer that.
*why is R and L buttons analog again? Seriously if its not going to work for GC games dont put it in there, unless there are Wii games that will use it.
*thumbsticks are a bit close together but there isnt much room to put them someplace else.

And i will be picking up a Wii Dec 6th!!! walmart will have atleast 3 by 8:00AM, so i will camp out at around midnight.

Nintendo Gaming / Why I Plan on Re-Buying All My Old School Games on VC
« on: November 29, 2006, 12:25:15 PM »
I am suprised to see how unpopular VC is with many of the nintendo fans on so many forums internet-wide. I think i may look at Virtual Console at a grander scale than most people.  You see i have this obsession with my old school games being perfect and lasting, granted i didnt have a ton of them (never happend to get into the metroid series or kirby) but the ones i did have ment a lot to me.

There are a few reasons why i would invest $300+ dollars in VC:

1) The most important thing for me regarding an old school game is the memories attatched with it, im 20 so i was pretty young when i was playing zelda and all the marios on the NES.  And when i play those games now i need them to be identical to what i played as a kid. I hated Super Mario All-Stars because of this, I loved Mario 1-3 but the updated graphics made it a totally different game to my eyes and it didnt match up to what i enjoyed as a child.  And i praise Nintendo for keeping all VC titles _exactly_ the way they where all those years ago.

2) Roms on computers never really could do this; visual quality was always off, sound was different in most cases, a completely different controller, sitting up to a computer screen... All this just turned me off from playing games i previously owned.  This may sound odd to you but that is just the way i looked at it.  I did however use roms and emulators to play games i rented or never played before cause they didnt really mean as much to me (smartball and megaman series).

3) Sense of Security; One of the bigger reasons is the fact that this is pure game data we are talking about, not breakable cartridges that can get worn down. and this is a system that is going to last (functionaly speaking), i dont know how many years my NES has left in it. Like i said i am thinking decades from now playing the same thing i did when i say 8, would i be able to with my original NES/Genesis? What about the controllers for the system? Many things go into an account. I hated the Controller on the N64 and im not using a garbage 64 emulator for it either.

4) Ultimate convenience;  This is a big factor to have almost every single Nintendo game made on one system. from having 5 different systems with a ton of wires and controlles everywhere to one system and one controller.  The fact that i can play some Majora's Mask then play a little Donkey Kong Country and after that finish my game of Zelda II: Adventures of Link and finish it all up by playing a few rounds of Sonic II without having to move! Its not being lazy its just shear convience to play everything one system and you will end up playing more games because of it.

5) Price; I dont know about you but i dont really mind the pricing system at all. Again considering there is probabaly only around 34 games that i originally had that will likely show up on VC and i calculated that up to be around $270.  I dont get why people are freaking out that NES games cost $5, sure for games like Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. it seems a tad steep, but i would gladly pay that much for any Zelda or Super Mario Bros. game. Not to mention this is over a span of like 3-5 years so its not that bad really.

Well thats the most of it, i will also be getting lots of games i liked a lot and didnt really own (bubble bobble for one) and i think there is about 20 of those that will likely show up on VC.  Call me crazy but that is how i look at it, a long term investment for pure quality of the exact original and will last as long as you can.

thanks for your thread... in feedback huh... im not exactly sure what that means, could someone open the gate and show me the link, thanks.

13
I dont think i saw this in the FAQ, but i do know that you cant transfer VC data, now i plan on spending a LOT of money in VC for certain reasons, i know the excellent quality game data will last forever (unlike the cartriges/systems). I plan on using my harddrive in my comp to store my VC titles for backup purposes.

Now i understand you cant transfer VC games to different Wii systems, but what happens when something happens to your own system beyond repair?  Do you lose all your Virtual Console investments in it sense its tied in with the system?  Please help, show me the answers.. thank you.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: How Does the 'Z' Button Feel on the Retro Controller?
« on: November 27, 2006, 02:55:51 PM »
whoa, didnt know they had a quick reply.. i guess i will be using this now.

anyway the fact that you will eventually need an L button for a complete emulation brings me to think of a firmwire update that allows custom controlls, which they need really bad... seriously they need a y/b setup for NES games as i already discussed but its all pure speculation here.

I know what you are thinking: "why wont you let this thread die, stop replying" but i cant do that you see.. its about making as much money as you can while you can.  With that said i would like to ask you a question Griffin while i have you attention.  It has been said that Mario 64 tends to pause for a split second on a few occasions due to an emulation glitch... has this happend to you? and if it has does it get a little annoying? Remember be as critical as you can. thanks for your time

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How Does the 'Z' Button Feel on the Retro Controller?
« on: November 27, 2006, 02:06:37 PM »
hey thanks for taking the time to do that griffin, but that one guy brings up a great point about the L button... some N64 games do use it and im not sure what is going to happen now... these are some strange times indeed.

But that makes absolutly no sense that they are not completely digital, i mean you cant use the Retro Controller for gamecube games... i really dont understand that at all.

but thanks again for your assistance.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How Does the 'Z' Button Feel on the Retro Controller?
« on: November 27, 2006, 01:04:27 PM »
well as long as you are 100% sure it is the retro controller you are talking about, and by the retro controller i mean the classic controller aka classicpad, aka this: http://www.nwiizone.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/wii-classic-controller.JPG

then everything is aallll right, thanks a lot grifin you have made my day, hell you have made my week! congrats.

**also one more thing, those triggers on the retro controller... those arnt analog triggers are they? i mean that wouldnt make sense that you would have to press all the way down on them for it to click... no sense at all, hehe im just worried about nothing.. right?!

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How Does the 'Z' Button Feel on the Retro Controller?
« on: November 27, 2006, 12:05:27 PM »
are you serious?!.... whoa... ... i knew that did that for the GC controller... but the retro controller too! They must have listened to me, i know it! I sent a page in a half document on why the L button should be Z, and my cries have been answered! Ok ok... im sure other people thought the same thing and all that, im just so happy they did this.. i mean very ... very happy!!! YES!

Which leads me to wonder what the L button is for N64 games if it has been replaced with Z... hmm.. you _sure_ this is the retro controller we are talking about?

Nintendo Gaming / How Does the 'Z' Button Feel on the Retro Controller?
« on: November 27, 2006, 11:39:40 AM »
i know atleast one of you has played mario 64 using the retro controller and im just curious how it feels using the Z button.  It seems that it is pushed a tad too far inward and im worried that it might not feel too good, this is one of the things that i was worried about when playing N64 games.

Thank you for your cooperation.

20
whoa! slow down, this thread is crashing and burning... i made the smackdown comment cause you attempted to point out that this thread already exists. i.e. " This question has been answered in the Virtual Console thread."
No one got that? And you are telling me you would like it if they fixed the super mario bros. glitch so you couldnt go into the negative world anymore?! You need to think outside the box people.

Now i understand that Mario 64 will pause for a split second on a few occasions, has anyone experianced this? And if they have does it really get in the way?

You just need to calm down, and icecold, what was the name of that cartoon that is in your pic... i know it and used to watch it a LOOONG time ago... just cant put my finger on the name. thanks.

21
thats something i am curious about... would improving the framerate really damage the old timey feel, that is something im not sure what to think...

For my theory is to get the VC version to look/feel as the original as close as possible, and improving the framerate may hinder that... i dont know, strange things are comming, i mean they WILL get donkeykong country 2 and 3 also right... RIGHT?!

22
I understand what you are getting at, and its good to see that question answered.  However like i said there have been changes via mario's transparency in the Super Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64 Video Game System by Nintendo... which leads me to believe there are more out there, and this topic has been created to discuss the differences that are out there.  Thank you for trying to lay the smack down but you have failed.. please try again.

23
oh im not worried about the controllers in this topic, no sir. Its all about perfect emulation, to be honest i am not exactly sure how emulation is done, but im curious of how hard it is to make perfect emulation... im scared that some cheap 3rd party developer might rush a game out there and have many emulated glitches, i hope nintendo has some stricked standards.

but let us not get off topic, any differences? anyone has noticed? its like a game! he and or she who finds the most differences wins my cup of carmel apple dip! its really good, i will ship it overnight too using fed-ex express!

24
In regards to zelda using the C buttons, i have played OOT and MM on the GC via promotion disc, and the C setup didnt really bother me at all.  It felt a little different than the original two but i got used to it fast, the only thing you need to watch out for is playing the orcina, one tends to mess up more often when using C as a thumbstick.  But again this is something you get used to pretty quick and it doesnt become a problem for long.

25
Yes its me asking more VC questions, but this is an important one! (and this is the only forum around here who actually cares about VC).
Its absolutly critical for me that any and all VC games must be identical to the original release, i mean the EXACT same thing. Including any and all glitches/bugs/sounds and especially visual effects.

Now I understand there will be a slight resolution increase, ok i can handle that. However i have learned that in Mario 64 the invisiblity effects have been changed to make him transparent instead of a static look, and an emulater glitch of lakatu sitting on the steps of the castle at begging of the game?!  I dont like this, it worries be a bit that VC might not be completely what i have come to expect.  So i have come before the good people of NintendoWorldReport Forums and ask you if you've noticed any differences between an original NES/SNES/N64/Genesis and their VC counter part (i could careless about TurboGraphics games so dont worry about that).

Thank you very much for your cooperation.
