Nintendo Gaming / RE:Revolution Goes Gold?
« on: December 30, 2005, 12:45:12 AM »
It would be nice to have a couple of stickers with the Nintendo logo. (Kinda like what Apple does). I'd gladly put one of the stickers next to the Apple one on my car.

Pre orders should get a "Special edition" sticker or a poster or a free download or something to that effect.
But i dont think Nintendo needs to resort to crappy marketing tactics like Sony/Microsoft, who use prerendered graphics, exagerated numbers, and purposely undersupply stores to claim a "sellout" when there wernt many to go around anywhere.

Nintendo needs to have an advertizing strategy in all territories ala the "Think Different" campaign...or even the first few DS ads. Then, team up with companies like McDonalds to promote the console with free giveaways like games, controllers,etc..... ensure logistics can deliver consoles to high demand areas (urban centers). deliver preorders on time....and have a healthy library in as many retail outlets (Walmart, Kmart, EB,  etc) as possible.

A healthy supply should be maintained to ensure those who want one get one, or they could just as easily get a PS3 or XB360 if they wanted to.

As far as marketing....KISS applies.....keep it simple stupid.

Cheers

I totally agree. It will be an amazing launch title, and the competition will have nothing like it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Revolution Bundled with Mario
« on: December 25, 2005, 04:44:19 PM »
Great discussion going on here.

I think bundling in Mario1128 with the NRS, says to customers "we're not like the other guys, we care about your gaming experience. they sell hardware, we sell games". Thats  a very important perspective, from a consumer standpoint. Also, this is Mario we are talking about.... i dont thinnk there's a Nintendo fan who doesnt like Mario, and as  far as new gamers his face will be instantly recognizable.

We can babble on and on about business practice and how nintendo can make more mone(if that even matters at this point). But Nintendo's stated goal is expanded market share through expanding the market. Can they appeal to "everyone" by bundling in Mario128 ? I beleive so. Should they bundle in Mario128 ? Yes. especially seeing as the competition will have a few months head start.

The question about bundling Mario128 shouldnt be about market share and profit , etc. It's about appealing to the targeted audience. And i think more non-gamers would be inclined to pick up a NRS with mario128 bundled than picking up a box with just hardware(and possibly a demo).

Having Mario128 bundled will also persuade people to connect the NRS with their fond memories from the NES and SNES days, which is a very powerful connection to gamers and older gamers. the message "This is the same Nintendo that brought you the NES, Gameboy and SNES".

Nintendo wants mass market appeal. They have to support SD TVs. i beleive they will.

VR/Stereoscopic technology sounds like it would need some hefty hardware. The most cost effective way to go about VR would have to be a visor.

but i reckon, for an additional price, VR/Stereoscopic 3D can be a possibility...

Miyamotos comments recently about going beyond the corners of the television and more important that he "count comment any further on it", made this possibility even more real, at least to me.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Launch Titles: What must we have.
« on: October 30, 2005, 07:59:54 PM »
Mario128
Super Smash Brothers:Revolution
Metroid Prime III

Shadow the hedgehog
King Kong
Final Fantasy:CC
Rogue Squadron 5
At least ONE sports gamefrom EA

Nintendo needs to have at least one game in each of the major genres at launch to appeal to almost everyone.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How Revolution Works

I agree, withthe "claim" made by the IBM rep. Nintendo took advantage by encorporating the PPC into the GameCube. A lot of the hard work has been done in compilers and optimizations over the life of the GCN. It wouldbe folly to throw all that out the window (The way Microsoft and Sony have done).

It "seems" logical to develop and ship a system in line with the GCN. The same processor and same GPU company definately point  to this kind of philosophy.

As far as PPU, sure if youre going into a store to buy one PPU it's gonna cost you $250. But lets not forget, this is Nintendo here, bulk buying is possible, and seeing as how the console is expected to last for 4-6 years, it would be a worthy investment now(if its actually as great as they say it is). Having a humbler CPU would also leave the possibility of a PPU open imo. Seeing as how game programming is linear as opposed to parallel(from what ive heard), having a single core CPU would not only make it cheaper, but also easier to program.

Hey guys.
I think the NRS should come in Black and White versions. And there aught to be only one configuration available:
-Console
-controller
-Mario128

Having said that, it would be great to have a 25th NES anniversary limited edition available eventually.
