Perhaps they could make it so there was a rule of "no axes" when you travel?  Or if they had Booker & Copper at the gates like they do in Wild World, they would say, "Would you like to leave your axe with us?"  Tree issue solved.

However... there could be the issue of people leaving trash all over your town...

TalkBack / RE: Revolution Revealed!
« on: May 17, 2005, 05:43:10 AM »
here's my quick prediction of the future:

Everyone will see that the Revolution's graphics are not up to snuff, but all the hardcore Nintendo fans will buy it.
Everyone will see that the Xbox360 is just the same system but with better graphics and all the Xbox hardcores will buy it.
Everyone will see that the PS3 looks better than the other two systems and everyone will buy it.

Don't forget: When I say "everyone" i'm talking about the general public here.  Definitely not you guys.  No one gives a flying f*ck about gameplay, only graphics.  Graphics, graphics, graphics.  If it's pretty, people will buy it.  I'm sorry, but that's the way it is here in the US.  People only want FPS, racing games, and sports titles.  Those are the mainstream audience.  When there's a system that can have these AND look the best, people will get that system.  I feel this Revolution will cause Nintendo to bank on their former franchises with their arcade option, but as far as new games go, every time a game developer makes a port to this system, all the reviews are going to point out "WAHHHH!!! THE REVOLUTION'S GRAPHICS AREN'T NEARLY AS GOOD AS THE OTHER TWO SYSTEMS!" Watch for it, it will happen every damn time.

I think the biggest compliment everyone has given Nintendo so far was that they all adopted wireless controllers.  Again, Nintendo pulls the first straw and they all follow suit, just like rumble and analog sticks, and countless others.  I also predict Nintendo to make a wireless mouse and keyboard too...but Animal Crossing online makes my mouth water.

Two of the biggest games this generation are GTA and Halo.  The Cube has no exclusives that are like these two games.

Right now you can say that, but I would say the next Zelda is going to be pretty huge.  And that's one of the reasons Nintendo's making it: they have no other choice.  Of course Nintendo is way too proud to ever admit that's the case, but you can't ignore the fact that Wind Waker and the new Zelda are light years apart from each other on terms of overall scope.  I can't predict whether every kid and their MOM are going to have Zelda in their house like those other 2 games you mentioned, but I guess it's wishfull thinking...:/

and when HASN'T Nintendo listened to it's fans!?
US: "WAhhh I want a new Metroid game!!"
N: "Let it be so."
US: "WAHHHh I want a realistic Zelda game!!!"
N: "Let it be so."
US: "WAHHHHh!!! I want online capabilities!!"
N: "Let it be so."

The only thing Nintendo's doing wrong is not making themselves "hip" enough to appeal to a mass-market.  And for all those doubters, YES, it is a GOOD thing to be appealing to a mass-market.  You get more userbase, and lo and behold *gasp* more games for your console because developers actually WANT to develop for your system since they actually think they'll make some money off of it!  Ain't that grand?

All I can say is that I'm probably going to be buying a PS3.  I've had enough of this and I refuse to give MS my money, so it's going to Sony.  I'll probably buy a Revolution too, but it's not going to make up for the fact that the PS3 will STILL end up having more (and probably better) games than the new N system.  Nintendo's head's in the clouds.  They've never cared about a mainstream audience.  EVER.

I can't say I'm surprised by something like this.  It's just another example of how Sony beat the crap out of everyone in "teh console war."  Namco prefers Sony over all other systems.  They got the ENTIRE Tekken series, and the Ridge Racer phenomena was born on the PS1.  Sony's just got better cards than everyone else.  It's pointless to bitch about something like this.

TalkBack / RE: BONNIE RUBERG: What a Girl Wants
« on: March 20, 2005, 07:15:43 AM »
The reason most girls attach to games like puzzle games, DDR and the Sims is because they are multi-gendered games.  Even a game like Super Smash Bros. is very multi-gendered.  I actually think most all Nintendo games are made so both boys and girls have the ability to enjoy them.  Almost all games nowadays you can instantly tell: was this made just so a man can boast his masculinity and go on a power-rage-killing-spree?  Or possibly something to make captain winky get excited?  Another type of game that many girls are into are MMO's and RPGs.  These are definitely multi-gendered games and almost always have male and female characters to play as.  Guys usually like them for the exciting parts and battles, girls usually like them for the romance and soap-opera-ish storylines.  Many RPGs storylines resemble those found in anime, something that is very very popular among girls (i think more than guys nowadays).  When it all comes down to it, I am just very happy more girls are gaming, because gaming IS something that can be enjoyed by both genders, not just one or the other.

As far as animation goes, I'd have to say the Jak & Daxter games on the PS2 have some of the most fluid and vivacious movements I've ever seen in a video game.  They are incredibly fluid and wonderful to watch.  I was disappointed that you did not mention these games, as well as Ico, which creates incredible tension and character depth through your actions (read: animations) of trying to save that helpless girl.  Ahh, if only all games were as good as Ico...*sigh*  Good editorial, though.

TalkBack / RE: REVIEWS: Star Fox: Assault
« on: February 12, 2005, 07:23:49 PM »
The only part of this review I disagree with is the multiplayer comment.  This mode is probably the single only redeeming quality about the entire game.  I played it with 2 other friends and it was fun as hell!  The guided missile mode is just really damn fun!  And you can also play with snipers only.  The Tank is a real bitch to control, but 3rd person or dogfighting in the Arwings is great.  Granted it's no Halo/2, nor does it offer LAN support, but it's still one of the most fun parts of the game.

Yes, I can see all the furries out there obsessing over Krystal and her massive furry fox-boobs.  Anyway, Star Fox Assault was incredibly disappointing, with only the Multi-player being the reason for a purchase.  Really really sad since it took them what, 3 years to make it!?

"the Nintendo GameCube, is clearly obsolete"  Yeah, at having crappy games!  This guy is full of it, and obviously has no idea about the gaming market, nor does he even play games.  He's just a idiotic journalist for a newspaper--the periodical of EVIL.  So just do yourself a favor and don't worry about it.  They're ALL dying out--by 2006 we'll have Xcox 2, G@ystation 3, and Lamecube 2.  And then we can complain about "who's winning" for 5 more years.  Whoopdeedoo!

Nintendo Gaming / RE: The Gamecube is a failure.
« on: November 10, 2004, 07:22:41 PM »
If you think Lost Kingdoms 1&2, Phantasy Star Online, hell even Baiten Kaitos are good RPG's, well, then I guess I'll have to disagree with you.  I don't even like RPGs anymore, so it doesn't matter.  All I'm trying to say is that it's a failure of a system.  It doesn't do anything to outperform the other systems,(GAME-wise, not power-wise) and the things that it DOES do better it does by a very slim margin.  I love Nintendo games just as much as you guys do, but I can't quite say that Nintendo made a successful system.

I think you completely missed my point. Think about how many games entail to all those genres I describe.  And all are ones that aren't being developed on the GC.  You don't see that as a problem?

Nintendo Gaming / The Gamecube is a failure.
« on: November 10, 2004, 06:55:08 PM »
Ok guys, I'm starting this topic to get your writing juices flowing.  I think there was an editorial on PGC that touched a little bit on this issue, but I just wanted to get this to be a really good full-fledged board topic in which we can get some good discussion on the issue.  I hope this doesn't envelop into an immature system bash/flame war, so please, I beg you, just be curteous, use REAL language, and for the love of christ, use punctuation!

As much as I hate to admit it, the Gamecube is an absolute failure.  Suprising coming from me, since it's the only next-gen console I own.  Even though it does exactly what I need it to do, and satisfys my gaming pleasure, there is also a matter of the rest of the gaming community in which the Gamecube simply does not cut it.   Okay...let's see.  What does the Gamecube have?
2D Oldschool fighters? Nope.
RPGs? Nope.
ESPN/Sega sports games? Nope.
Great racing games? Nope.
How about those War-themed FPS/special ops games?  Nope.
Online games? Nope.
Flight Sims?  Nope.
RTS's?  Nope.
Mech battle games? Nope.
Star Wars Battlefront? Nope. (but we get sh!tty re-hashes of Rogue Squadron)
Fable? Nope.
GTA? Nope. (who needs that anyway)

Okay, okay, enough cynicism.  Let's see what they actually DO have.
Mario Kart, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Party, Paper Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Donkey Konga, and a ton of other great first party titles.

There is next-to nothing from 3rd parties on the GC that you can't get on another console, and if it's on XBox, it's more than likely better.  If it's on PS2, the graphics/load times suck, but it's probably out sooner, so why wait?

All I can say is that I'm sick of it.  Nintendo obviously FAILED in a number of places:
1.) getting a mainstream demographic to accept their console
2.) getting enough developers to make a lot of great games for their system
3.) getting enough quality games
4.) having a smaller disc size may help on piracy, but fails when forcing developers to cut corners or compress otherwise good content
5.) a purple system on launch, but only advertising a black one now, it obviously didn't change a damn thing.
6.) "exclusives" end up all being lies or just end up being cancelled altogether.*  (RE4 & VJ come to mind)
7.) Realizing that their name alone isn't going to keep them alive.
*and WHY are these companies renegging their decision about GC exclusivity?  Because they realized it would get them next to no money! Why?  Because GC is failure.

The best example of proving how much of a failure is this:  I work at Blockbuster video.  Our games section, while not the greatest, is the perfect analogy to how the system race is going.  Our PS2 section is about 20 bays (each bay is 6 shelves that can hold about 8-10 games each).  Our Xbox section is about 10 bays.  And the GC section?  3 bays.  It's not that Nintendo doesn't support the rental industry, it's that THERE AREN'T ENOUGH *NEW* GAMES TO PLAY ON THE GAMECUBE.  Period.  And what does that look like to the average gamer?  I'll tell you: it looks like since there isn't enough games to play on the Gamecube, why the hell should they invest their money into it when you can get tons more (and probably BETTER) on the PS2 or Xbox?  Do people buy every game released on a system?  No!  But they sure as hell rent them.  Renting is the best way to experience a game without having to dish out the  insane $45-$50 purchase price.  In the 6-month period that I have been working there, there have probably been at least 50 games released on the PS2.  The Xbox probably had about the same.  GC has probably had about 10.

I feel Nintendo is only relying on their die-hard fans (me for example) which is absolutely asinine.  It's like Nike only making shoes for people that like to play basketball.  It just doesn't cut it.  You have to give in and you can't limit yourself to one thing.  Broaden your horizons, etc.  But alas, it's all too late for that.

I know there must be a lot of Nintendo lovers here since this is a Gamecube website, but if you have ever told yourself that there is absolutely nothing on the PS2 or Xbox worth playing, you really might want to either open your eyes or think about getting a new hobby.

Before I end this (I'm sure I'll be writing more later) all I can say is if they think the DS is going to save them, they're up sh!t creek without a paddle.

TalkBack / RE: Editorial: PlayStation or Xbox?
« on: October 26, 2004, 02:56:05 PM »
Y'know I don't think a lot of you realize that Nintendo isn't in this for "being the best" or "being a household name" or even "winning the console race."  Nintendo is in this for one reason, and one reason alone: MAKING GAMES.  From the very beginning they have been the original innovators of everything we see on the market.  Take controllers for example.  From the way control pads are designed, to force feedback, to wireless, and now they are innovating yet again with the DS.  They're giving us (and developers) a completely new way in which we control and experience our games. Nintendo only cares about giving us new and fun ways to experience games.  That is their #1 priority.  They always seem to be the leader in something, and then the other companies take notice and jump on.  Some do it better, some do it worse, but they will always be there to take the first leap.  I think you're taking the whole "Playstation or Xbox?" thing a little too seriously.  Sure, Nintendo was in the minds of kids in the 80's and mid-90's, but now it's just a completely new ball game.  The question is also like saying "Ford or Chevy?"  It's just a brand name, some do it better, some do it worse.  But Nintendo will always do it FIRST.

TalkBack / RE:In-Game Advertising Shows High Growth Potential
« on: October 19, 2004, 04:53:34 AM »
I'm not going to say this is a good thing, but there are ways in which people can advertise in games and make it actualy apart of the gaming experience, so therefore it is accepted quicker.  Someone mentioned Crazy Taxi, which is a great example of this.  Didn't they also have Coke machines you could shoot in Duke Nukem 3D?  Another more recent example of this is Pikmin 2.  You pick up all sorts of "official" things with real company labels on them like Kiwi Shoe Polish, Dr. Pepper and RC Cola bottle caps (old school), Carmex Lip Balm, and many many others.  I'm sure Nintendo asked these companies if they could put them in the game, and I'm sure they all said yes or maybe even gave them some money to do so.  And it WORKS.  You see a real-life item in the game and you immediately relate to it, as though you are really in the real world in the game.  Now stuff like NFSU where there's a billboard every couple feet can get ridiculous, and when they start playing commercials before games start (like they do now before movies) that's when I'm going to pull the game out of the system and fling it across the room.  I think there's a place for ads in games, just as long as their either unobtrustive or are apart of the game experience.
