General Gaming / RE:E3 awards

NOTE: I'm going to generally discount PC games as I can't keep up with the volume of them nor can I honestly be bothered to care too much. My computer is slow and I'm out of the PC gaming loop.

BEST GRAPHICS (technical):

Conker: Live and Reloaded
Resident Evil 4
Fable

Runners-up
Metroid Prime 2
Halo 2

BEST GRAPHICS (artistic):

Baten Kaitos
Killer 7
Paper Mario 2 (I'm a sucker for this style)

Runners-up
Fatal Frame 2
Legend of Zelda

BIGGEST SUPRISE

The DS is quite alright! I thought there was going to be some sort of lame catch but it seems all is ok in the land of Nintendo handhelds

Runner-up

The Legend Of Zelda. . . Somewhat suprising.
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is. . . fun? Suprised me!

BIGGEST DISSAPOINTMENT

No word on Silicon Knights = they've become third-party.

Runner-up

Sega's "big" announcement

BEST AUDIO?

I don't think E3 is a place to judge audio at.

MOST ANTICIPATED GAMES

The Legend of Zelda
Final Fantasy XII
Resident Evil 4
Animal Crossing DS
Tales of Symphonia
Fable
Baten Kaitos
Metroid Prime 2

I must know. . .

Is "NINTENDO IS COMING, B*TCHES!" an actual quote?

I dunno. . . Silicon Knights + Zelda? Seems like wishful thinking and generally unlikely, but who knows! Anything's possible.

I just would not bet on it. I still think it's quite possible that Silicon Knights is really gone too.

I think as far as gameplay goes the DS will be vastly superior. . .

As for sales. I think people are downplaying that the PSP will likely have great mainstream appeal. Sony is very "cool" these days and people are pretty into multi-functionality.

But the price will hold it back I believe and it looks like Nintendo is already stealing alot of attention from it. I believe it will do well enough but it is likely the DS will do considerablly better. . . but if Sony suprises us with the pricing then I believe there will be a very close battle.

My guess.

Pretty cool stuff. I now know for sure I'll be purchasing one. It sounds like it is shaping up to be a nifty system.

Hehehe, doesn't change the fact that that particular screen was from the 2000 Spaceworld demo. That lil piece of media was a fake. Thankfully, the hoaxer was on the right track though.

(and yeah I was wrong when I said 2001)

We could probobly just get rid of this thread now. . .

General Gaming / Nintendo Revolution, eh?
« on: May 11, 2004, 09:26:39 AM »
IGN  posted the following:

"May 11, 2004 - IGNcube has learned that Nintendo is about to introduce a new code name for its next gaming console. The successor of the Gamecube will from now on be referred to as "Revolution."

Nintendo is said to at least touch upon development of the next-generation hardware in its E3 press conference, which will commence shortly.

Look for more information soon."

Good to see that they are going to talk a little the next console, I think it would have been a bad idea to not at least mention it a bit.

Bill, as much as I suspect the next GC Zelda may sport a realistic look, that screenshot is from the 2001 spaceworld demo.

IGN has been covering it a little and it's supposed to be shown at E3 as a playable demo I believe.

N-space is apparently also going to reveal a game titled "Hope". I'm intruiged.

?!?!

I'm guessing you don't know much about Too Human? Too Human is a hugely anticipated game that has been in the making for something like 10 years now. Many gamers have had it at the top of their most wanted list for years.

But I do think a Zelda game is more likely. I think we have another E3 to go before we see Too Human. . . (but I am a lil' hopeful)

I had the original Star tropcis. . . I don't believe I knew there was a second Star Tropics. The first one was a lil' rpg that I thought was pretty cool back in the day, although I'm certain it doesn't hold up too well anymore. . . pretty simplistic, perhaps plotless. . . but it has a charm.

I think Ultima Exodus is somewhat sought after, but don't quote me on that one.

Also I'd like to mention for no good reason that Trog is one of the most underrated NES game out there. That game can be bloody good fun especially if you've got a competitive friend with you.

General Gaming / RE: N64 games have become as cheap as dirt!
« on: May 08, 2004, 06:16:12 AM »
Am I the only one who can't help but adore the Episode 1: Racer game for the 64?

Granted it's not a fantastic game by any means, but I would think I'd hear people mention it more. It's probobly within the top ten in my 64 collection, but then again I'm missing a few games (Banjo games, Ogre Battle, Smash Brothers, any and all Mario titles sans Mario 64).

It had a great sense of speed and some excellent tracks.  Not to mention a fairly hefty upgrade system that made for good competition against siblings. "My Pod Racer is faster than yours! ZOOM!"

17
OK, Cloud. . . Metroid Prime 2. . . the sequel to Metroid Prime is going to be shown at this E3. That is a NEW metroid game. It is a good thing. Secondly, The next Conker game will come out on Xbox only seeing as how Rare (the developer) is now owned by Microsoft.

And yeah, a Donkey Kong game would not suprise me in the least.

Sorry to sort of post right after myself but I was looking at the IGN Gamecube boards and there was a locked topic titled: "Its impossible for SK to have gone third party/left altogether because (evidence inside)"

Of course it could have been locked for any number of reasons. . .  but. . .

Mario: Yeah I've been reading up as well. . . The clues are certainly there. . .

If we are going to see Too Human at this E3 I will very likely literally jump with excitement. I'm not holding my breath though. . . Well maybe a little bit.

As a side-note, I'm intruiged by the NSpace title, "Hope".

Well that is intersting, isn't it?

Honestly though I would be more excited if the announcement involved Silicon Knights or Sega.

Seriouslly, Nintendo and Sega going in together on the next console would just . . . Oh lord, words can not express!! Of course I am not expecting anything of the sort. But oh, one can dream! It would be SO perfect!

Two former rivals join forces, having been faced by new, giant, corporate foes! It seems kinda plausible. . . But I think that as companies the two of them (Nintendo especially) are too proud. . . but hey, if ever it was time for a crazy development. . .

21
And I do agree.

I sincerely doubt that this system will have a revolutionaryly mainstream appeal. Nintendo itself (Well, Iwata, I believe) stated that they expect that it may very well have a niche appeal.

I do believe he was being overly pessimistic at the time when he said a figure of only 10% or so of gamers might 'get it'. . . but I do not think it will transcend the GBA's current market. It seems to me that it is going to be a gamer's machine and I find it very likely it will be a Nintendo gamer's machine (not to say that there won't be a gaggle or three of people who'll snatch it up who've never owned a Gameboy.)

So I think it will likely be right up my alley. . . but not my parent's. . . or my neighbor's.  (but I also think this will be so of the PSP with the cost being more of an issue as well)

I truthfully think the PSP and DS will divide the handheld market pretty nicely and collectively sell about 20 million units. . . I do not think either will be as succesfull as the GBA, and possibly not even collectively.

That is my premature forecast.

I would like:

Grandma, Come Home.

Thanks.

Animal Crossing player character.

You'd smack people with bug nets, dig holes and you'd grab people with your fishing pole. Of course, this is a terrible idea. . .  But really. . . would any one you actually be against it, I mean, really?!

Seriouslly though, I see Wario, Kid Icarus and actually a Custom Robo character being serious possibilities. Wario I would bet on.

24
I just know that Nintendo is ridiculously silly if it thinks the DS isn't going to be competing with the PSP. Obviouslly the systems are very different but people (lots of them) will ask themselves the question "Do I want a DS or a PSP?".
