Nintendo Gaming / Final Battle: BAD A$$ MO FO (SPOILERS WITHIN)

I must admit that I was a little disappointed.
The ending WAS too short.

Great. Another damn Cel-shaded Zelda.  And  people wonder why Nintendo will never get rid of its kiddie image.

oh boy....
Zelda was never intended to look realistic.
cell-shading is a good thing.
And spare me the kiddie talk...

I just finished WW too.
The whole game I hoped that at some point the entire sea would dry up or something and that the "old" hyrule would be beneath it (all ruins and stuff)
but it didn't happen. I thought the fight with gannondorf was fun, especially the final "parry" attack, nice.

I didn't really understand the ending, and also seemed to short.... I hoped for some BIG plot.... I really thought that the sea would dissapear and that the ending would be a "beginning" of a new hyrule.

Ganandorf is tranformed in a stone statue....so I guess if there would be any "sequel" this statue will come to live again.

Nintendo Gaming / ps3/xbox to get crush by GC2?
« on: May 08, 2003, 06:47:59 AM »
actually the next step in graphics will be quite a big one.
the improvement will be in the post-process rendering and rendering effects, not the poly-count.

real-time bumb-mapping (doom3), displacement maps, programmable shaders
(as someone mentioned, real-time raytracing is NOT going to happen in like...10 years at least)

be aware that bumb-mapping GREATLY improves the visual effect.
untill now, a brick floor looked FLAT.  nice for a top-down view, but when looked at it with an angle, it looks like
a flat floor with a "brick-print" on it.  there are many more materials that are candidates for bumb-mapping.

...that and post-rendering effects. there is a lot more you can do besides "lensflares and glows".
Think Maya, think paint FX anyone? (any 3d modelers here?..hehe)

can't wait!
pioneer will be doom3.

General Gaming / What resolution uses the GC games?
« on: May 02, 2003, 08:44:19 AM »
no, i don't think 1280x1024
you see, your TV screen is actually quite low-res, even the "high resolution" ones, compared to PC-crt's
So a high pixel resolution won't be visible above a certain value, and would be a total waste of rendering time.

I think  that value is between 640x480 and 800x600 pixels.

Nintendo Gaming / metroid Prime rocks!!!
« on: May 02, 2003, 05:02:32 AM »
I just have to say it.
For a long time I haven't played any console game (last one was zelda on N64) and only played games
on my PC. Now I have metroid for 2 weeks, and I haven't touched my PC for any game in these two weeks.

At last, a game that sucks me in.
I love it!

Don't forget those Donkey Kong games on SNES.... those are good games.
Altough I must admit that after goldeneye I haven't played any rare game....save for perfect dark a few moments....

Well I agree with Wesisapie.
When Doom2 was there I had some much fun playing co-op.
While deatchmatch, or team-deatchmatch is very basic, (almost too basic.....kill everybody who is not you, or kill everybody who is not your team) co-op teamplay is something you can create a whole new gameplay on. (i.e. "you press that switch and then I sneak trough the door that opens for only one second")

I still think games are there too dive into another world, with you as the hero. I think mass-multiplayer games won't make it in the long run... I played multiplayer games on PC for quite some time (quake3arena, unreal tournament, counterstrike etc. etc.) and I was shocked how much more fun I had playing metroid prime...my first game on gamecube.

If you think about it, there have not been much co-op games, and way too much multiplayer games, where you just shoot eachother in some place, with some character. I don't know about you, but I'am fed up with that. I want a good story, a world that's about to die with you as the world last hope.....and maybe you and someone else..!

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo doing it again??

by the way, I think it's really nice that sega is now making such excellent games for NGC.

I really liked MGS... this is indeed unexpected.
let's face it, MGS 2 on PS2 was not as great (at least to me) as expected.
maybe overhyped, but it didn't had the same impact as MGS had....

Now what if this MGS game on cube turns out to be awesome...??
that would be a great let-down for al people who bought a PS2, just for MGS2....(hehehehehe)

sorry.... a little mean there...
First final fantasy, resident evil and now mgs....
It feeld good to have a gamecube indeed!

Nintendo Gaming / anyway to "MOD" a gamecube?
« on: May 01, 2003, 08:20:20 AM »
I own a gamecube for the games.
But when I watched my friend starting linux on the xbox.....man, that was weird!
(he doesn't own any game, he just likes to hack stuff...)

my point is, that it might nog be such a bad idea to have an OS on a console!
(by the way....XBOX was fast too! it loaded linux in no time!)

gamecube has no hard drive... indeed.
but the mem-card is writable, and pretty fast too.
but way too expensive for larger amounts of data storage.

offcourse an OS on a console will probably never hapen, it makes the console less-user friendly, bu the idea appeals to me.

Nintendo Gaming / anyway to "MOD" a gamecube?
« on: May 01, 2003, 06:02:59 AM »
FIRST OFF ALL: with "mod" I DON'T MEAN a way too play illegal copy's of games....pretty impossible anyway with the unique medium the gamecube uses.... just to make a point: I have no intention to do anything illegal.
***altough......your warenty is lost as soon as you open up your console!****

A friend of mine has a mod-XBOX, runs linux on it and can do his mail on it.
I think that's sooooo cool. The linux installation is done through a security leak.  (in the save process)
As far as I know this is not illegal, since you own the thing, so you can do with it whatever you want.

Does anyone know anything about a cube-mod?
and ARE these activities in fact, legal?

cheers!
