General Gaming / Final Fantasy's Final Fantasy
« on: August 09, 2003, 09:12:38 PM »
Before you read this, I'd like to plainly point out that I love the Final Fantasy series, and this rant is not to bash or diss Final Fantasy.  Here goes.  The basis behind all Final Fantasy story lines is that the main characters in them embark on a journey of epic proportions to stop a threat to the entire world.  It is those characters' ultimate fantasy, their fantasy of all fantasies, their final fantasy.  Once their fantasy was over, Squaresoft moved on to another place, another time, and a totally different story.  Now I say Final Fantasy is no longer "Final Fantasy".  I say this because first of all, they are coming out with a sequel to Final Fantasy 10.  They are also working on Final Fantasy XI, which, for those of you who don't know, is going to be an mmorpg.  There are no more Final Fantasies.  These new games are simply rpg's, or mmorpg's that Squaresoft is developing that use the Final Fantasy name to sell them.  At this rate, there is no more final fantasies, there are fantasies that keep going and going.  That has it's benefits, but now there will no longer be a final fantasy in a Final Fantasy game.  Rambling done.  Thoughts?

General Chat / RE: Seinfeld

uhhh...lemme see if I can explain it.  It's a 26 episode series about a small group of bounty hunters scrounging around for a few bucks in the year 2071. That's just scratching the surface, though.  In short, just watch the episodes on cartoon network if they still show them.  Or, just buy the movie that came out about a month ago.  Cowboy is what bounty hunters are called and Bebop is the name of their ship.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: The Next Wave: A War of Chance
« on: July 22, 2003, 03:07:21 PM »
good call Clonester, nice icon btw.  I actually did read the post and, it did have good points...mainly the mistakes that were made, and the fact that games need to be fresh.  Right now, we are in a time when rehashes and sequels are the majority of new games released, especially from Nintendo.  I challenge Nintendo's own internal studio, EAD, to create a game so deep, immense, and moving that it leaves the gaming industry, hardcore gamers, and even casual gamers totally speachless, using a totally original storyline and original characters.  I know they could do it.  Yes I realize I just said something that I would "like" for Nintendo to do, which as Grey Ninja said seriously needs to take a seat and let the company do it's job, but I'm supporting the point of games being fresh.  Again, good thoughts nemo_83.

General Chat / Cowboy Bebop: Spike's Past
« on: June 15, 2003, 03:16:13 PM »
Well, I just finished watching the entire series of Cowboy Bebop thanks to a friend letting me borrow the entire series.  Anyhoo now I'm confused about Spike's past.  I know he used to be part of the Red Dragon Syndicate, I know he had a love named Julia and they were going to run away together.  I know he lost one of his eyes in some un-named accident and I know he and Vicious used to be comrades and then became enemies.  What I'm trying to figure out is that dream Spike has (at least twice) about being on an operating table surrounded by people with tubes containing human organs around the walls of the room and the comment Spike and Vicious both trade back and forth with eachother "only I can kill you and ease you of your burden."  Lastly, what was the whole "dream" about?  His last words to Feye is "I want to know if I'm really alive."  Can someone explain any of this to me?  Every little piece helps.

ummm...I guess I'm really out of the technology loop.  Can someone please explain what the "Cell Processor" is for me?

The one thing a lot of ppl are forgetting about as far as "new Hyrule" and "what happens to Hyrule" is what the Great Deku Tree said.  I don't remember the exact quote, but he said something along the lines of his Koroks spread his seeds to all the islands every year to plant future Deku Trees and eventually grow all the islands into one huge mass.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Miyamoto again says ALttP is a sequel to LoZ

If I remember correctly, the sort of opening story for Link's Awakening is that Ganon was dead and the Hylian people were scared so Link left Hyrule in search of new skills and knowlege to prepare for any other threat to Hyrule.

Nintendo Gaming / Different outcomes (SPOILER!!!)

good call Cobot!  The instant I read  his comment I thought "hah, gotta love Nintendo!"  It's obvious that they're indirectly thanking all Nintendo fans for their support.

I'm totally confused with the ending of Wind Waker.  According to the new chronological order Nintendo has adopted for the Legend of Zelda series, it's Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, then I think it's Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Link to the Past, then Link's Awakening and the Oracle games.  Anyhoo, as those of you who beat the game know, the king of Hyrule wished for Hyrule to be washed away forever and for this Zelda and Link to start a new future and make a new kingdom.  NOW, since that has happened, how can the Zelda games that occur after this story (every game made before Ocarina of Time) exist if Hyrule is no more??  Any thoughts?
