IGN's impressions are EXTREMELY glowing. They seem to think this is one of the most complete and impressive demos at E3.

I'd say that that list is pretty much your launch lineup, minus Metroid.

Upon second glance, it appears that the "27 titles" quote was kind of cheap from Nintendo. All those WiiSports games are being counted separately, and a couple of those things don't appear to be actual games. (I suppose those first three are pershaps built into the Wii?)

However, it is really great to see WiiMusic, Sonic, Necro Nesia, SD Gundam, One Piece, and Bombermanland ready to play. Could be launch titles.

Meanwhile, the absense of Square Enix tells me that they WON'T, in fact, be launch titles.

Yeah... but after watching that a couple times, I'm not completely sold that he was truly controlling what was going on.

BUT, no worries, WiiMusic is on the show floor.

Nintendo Gaming / Possibility for surprise games on the floor?

Now that info from the show floor is trickling in (the gun, Mario hands-on), can we safely say that there are no surprise games on the show floor today? I was really hoping for some kind of music game. A music game would be really accessible and make a lot of sense (the only games I can get some of my friends to play is DDR and Donkey Konga).

We saw videos of people conducting and of a guy playing drums, but no footage. Since these were the first two things in the pre-conference, it would be really lame if Nintendo had no plans of actually making them a reality some time soon.

Assuming we get a November launch, we could see

Launch: Mario, Zelda, Disaster, Pilotwings, Wii Sports, Two SE titles, Red steel, a dozen or so other titles
December: SSB
January: Resident Evil: Whatever Edition, Wario Ware
February: MP3
March: New Sonic Title, Fire Emblem
April: Namco RPG, Excite Truck
May: E3 2007

Ehhh. I'd alter that quite a bit. Pilotwings seems more like a December release to me. Disaster could be a long way away, I think. All we saw was 5 seconds of CGI. Also, I think Crystal Chronicles could be pretty far off... SSB might be too, despite what Iwata has said in the past.

Launch: Mario, Zelda, WiiSports, Excite Truck, WarioWare, Project HAMMER, Red Steel, and I'm hoping that there is some musical game, too (we saw lots of people using the wiimote in this way, but no game footage)
December: Pilotwings, Sonic
January: probably not much...
February: MP3, Crystal Chronicles
March: Disaster, Resident Evil(?)
April: Super Smash Brothers

Nintendo Gaming / RE:My thoughts on Wii
« on: May 10, 2006, 10:01:50 AM »
Yeah, if games like WiiSports are going to come OFTEN, on-line, for CHEAP, then the graphics are irrelevant. Iwata did say it needed to be new "every day"... Obviously, there's a lot of different stuff that will make it new every day, but a LOT of quick games like this could be part of it.

Similarly, I was a nearly lost gamer. I had lost almost all interest and never played single player games, and had resolved to not buy a next-gen console because it all seemed stupid... Then the wiimote was announced and I'm back. Basically, Nintendo managed to create a sell out of a customer that, for Sony and Microsoft, did not even exist.

That Track & Field clip from the conference was a clip from WarioWare, I believe.

Yeah, I agree with Matt's and Bozon's reviews of the show. They didn't really tell us ANYTHING. Zelda and Red Steel, the two games they demoed most extensively, were the two games we already knew the most about! Besides independent developers and the announcement of WiiConnect24, almost no new details were presented!

Nintendo Gaming / RE: "Two words for Nintendo fans-Uh oh."

G4 is just not worth watching. You get the feeling that everyone on that station has about an IQ of 56. They assume that no one watching has the internet and they say things like, "We've got exclusive coverage! Here's the world premiere of the Halo 3 trailer! WE KNOW the launch date and price of the PS3!!" They pretend like they have inside information but actually know far less than any of us do. It's silly.

Nintendo Gaming / Questions we expected to have answered...
« on: May 09, 2006, 02:50:54 PM »
I understand that they're not telling us the launch date or the price. I'm ok with that. And maybe some of these questions will be answered by the week's end. But there just seem to be SO MANY issues that were practically ignored at the press conference... Here are some issues whose absenses confuse and worry me...

What games are on-line multiplayer, and what games are not?

What all will come packed in with the system?

Can't we have more details on VC and Wi-Fi? connect24 is a nice announcement because it shows they're working on stuff, but a simple demonstration of some of this would have been helpful. As it is, I can only speculate that they have a TON of work to do as far as figuring it all out. Is it like XBox Live at all? Do you get a buddy list? How much are games?

How about a status update on SSB?

Interesting tidbits were dropped here and there (the speaker, independent developers doing VC work, etc) but for the most part all we got were demonstrations of games that did not turn out to be very surprising. And one of those games was originally a GC project.

What issues' absences counfounded and angered you?

Most likely what's going to happen is that if your AC save file is anywhere in the system, either in the internal memory or on a flash card that's plugged in, that other online users will be able to get to that data while the system is in "sleep mode". Meaning, you won't have to leave the disk in the system.

Ok, I guess that makes sense. And is cool. But I'm skeptical about how much any of this on-line stuff actually going to be implemented.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:27 Titles... List Complete? Maybe?
« on: May 09, 2006, 02:37:45 PM »
Let's see... Mario, Zelda, and Red Steel are all coming at launch... Metroid is likely a 1Q 2007 release. So it looks like SSB is going to have to wait. Otherwise this launch would simply be too crowded with big name titles. If SSB launched with the system, that would probably cripple Warioware and WiiSports sales as well.

I'm a little confused about the AC example they gave at the press conference, about someone "visiting your town" while the Wii is turned off... will they be storing all that stuff server side, or will people be literally connecting to your Wii while it's in sleep mode...

Yeah, for real... Would you have to keep Animal Crossing disc in the Wii for this to happen?? It seems like a lot of ideas with zero implementation so far... I wonder if some of these features will not be included in the first wave of games.

For real, though, why wouldn't they just say, while demoing WiiSports, that "and if you don't have anyone at home to play with, you can play for free online"???? I'm almost sure they would say that if they were planning on-line for any of these games...

24
The big question that I have is simply this: How many of these games that we're seeing, 1st & 3rd party, are going to be multiplayer on-line??? Why wouldn't they mention this?  It doesn't take attention away from anything else, just tell us that it is.  I'm worried that Wii's on-line multiplayer prescense will be underhwelming.

25
Their announcement was exciting, but all Nintendo did was talk about how Animal Crossing could use it, and that there will be a web browser. I need details!! Will there be on-line/connect24 stuff on the floor tomorrow?

Will we get more details on the virtual console, the network, etc within the next couple of days? How similar will it be to XBox Live? Will it be as functional? Is it possible that the wiimote will notify you of things while Wii is powered off?

The show was fun, but I would like some more concrete details!!
