Do you need the system code too or will the one for the game itself be enough?

It seems just about everyone on the NWR staff has negative feelings on Madworld after the fact  :( .  Personally, I've found the game to have the lastability that you said it lacked.  I've played through it twice, the second time in front of my Collage roomate who was just captivated by not only the specticle but the story.  (I told him the script writer did FFXII and he simply said "yah, they're both messed up stories")  I plan on playing the game again when the school year starts up and show my next roomate all of it's bloody goodness.  Given the length of it I know I can always replay it and it will never outstay it's welcome.  I'd say it's a guilty pleasure but I don't have any guilt about it.  Just the combination of all the grusome sound effects combined with the hip-hop soundtrack (I don't even like rap), and the halarious commentary gives you an experience I've yet to see anything replicate.  (I kind of get the same feeling from HotD Overkill and am greatly looking forward to the sequal.)  Overall, I would've also game it a 9.0 but would still look back on it with the same prais as when I first played it.

It's nice to know that Monolith Soft finaly have a hit on there hands.  It's always saddened me to see the people behind one of my favorite games of all time (Baten Kaiton Origins) have there games do poorly.  I've always been afraid of them shutting down but this makes me feel better.

I hope this isn't just a straight port and more things like the 3D are added.  I'm not talking so much as graphics as tweaking things that were improved in later games, like assigning the steel boots to a button press.

I also wonder if this is going to be some special series they start releasing (ala "New Play Control') didn't one of the press releases earlyer today mention a 3d Starfox 64?  And why 64 games? it seems the 3DS is capable of doing things more powerful then that.

Some of thoes third party ones worry me, with it listing stuff like BloodRayne, A Boy and his Blob and Splinter Cell: chaos theory, how many of these are new and how many of them are ports of already existing games?  With how the 3DS games look I wouldn't doubt the possibility of Gamcube era ports.

TalkBack / Re: Goldeneye Wii Trailer Uncovered
« on: June 15, 2010, 12:14:46 AM »
It's a remake, the first third of the trailer is basically talking about how the original is one of the best ever.  It's going to be similar layouts to the N64 game but more cinematic is seems (it looks like you're going to have a partner.  I mean there is a shot where they were sniping from a tower in the dam level and all that was shown of the dam in the film was Bond just bungee jumping from it.

The tagline is a bit misleading, it makes it sound like it is a remake of the Nintendo 64 game when it isn't. Though the trailer kind of does too.

What makes you think it isn't a remake, it certainly looks like the same levels.  With Activision owning the Bond license and Nintendo owning the rights to the original game why couldn't it be remade?  Is it because of Rare?  It had no Rare owned characters in it and Nintendo have been able to re-release the Donkey Kong Country games which were also developed by Rare so they don't exactly have full control over everything they've made.

People say Goldeneye is out of date but if you remember it has a lot of things that many shooters even nowadaysdon't have, like objectives that increase in quantity depending on the difficulty.  The only problem it has is the single analog controls which will obviously be fixed.

TalkBack / Re: Retro Studios Making a New Donkey Kong Game?
« on: June 13, 2010, 10:14:00 PM »
I'm finding it hilarious that people seem to know exactly "what Retro would be good at" keep in mind this is a company that went from not having made anything to making some thing that people consider one of the greatest games of all time and because they're new and all they've had the chance to make was FPMetroid games everyone thinks they can only do either shooters or revive old franchises.  I say let them do whatever they want because they've already proven to be a competent developer.  If they were handed something like Donkey Kong then something must have happened behind the scenes where they've proven to be the best people for the job.

I honestly don't care what they're working on because whatever it is I know will be fantastic.

I have a feeling Arkham Asylum 2 might go in this direction.

That's actually another good one, though this is all from a business standpoint, not necessarily from a "I want game as soon as possible" standpoint.

It doesn't have anything to do with the movie (and Disney has zero control over the game), Ubisoft just decided to capitalize on the press from the movie by releasing a new PoP game at the same time.

I wonder why they don't do that with other movie licensed games, when you know that a movie is being talked about just start making a game with the property and don't be boged down by having little time because it has to be like the film.  Sure this PoP game may not be the greatest predecessor to Sands of Time but compared to other licensed movie games (since the movie is based on a game can you call it that?) I'm sure it's godly.

Another example is that Pirates of the Caribbean game they're making that isn't tied into a film, just let the developers finish then wait to release it when the newest movie comes out.  The profit might not be as instant but you'd sure sell a lot more.

TalkBack / Re: Ubisoft Investor Call Details Software Sales
« on: May 23, 2010, 10:06:12 PM »
I remember the newscast talking about the previous story on Red Steel 2 sales, that somehow a weak first week sales proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that 3rd parties don't sell well on Wii.  What no one seems to realize is that Wii games just sell differently then 360/PS3 games.  While developers of HD games want to get there money's worth as fast as they can by hyping up a big launch, Wii games have a tendency to be a slow burn even for games that you wouldn't expect.

Take Call of Duty, it was said to have bombed due to weak initial sales but eventually went on to sell over a million (why else do you think we keep getting the games on the system) this also seems to be the case with Red Steel and other games Ubisoft has mentioned.  It seems the Wii is not only introducing a new audience to gaming but also introducing a new ways games seem to sell.  It is until publishers see this that they'll notice that the Wii isn't just owned by grandmas and kindergardeners and that things other than party games can be sucessful.

I'm just about to leave for the store.  My only question is how do you register friends since there are no friend codes?  I want to play with people on the site but I haven't got anyone Wii system number yet.

Wow, you can tell it's running on the same engine as NyxQuest, it looks gorgeous for a Wiiware game.  I just wish I could see some gameplay of it, I'd need that before my interest goes up any further.

TalkBack / Re: Sega: MadWorld a \
« on: April 07, 2010, 01:38:14 PM »
Oh Sega Sega Sega, seriously you're thoughts can sometimes be so idiotic that it hurts.  Every game made by Clover/Platinum games has been a niche title and as a result have always sold to a specific type of market that really enjoys those types of games.  If you were to compare the sales of Madworld to those of previouse Clover titles like Okami and GodHand on the PS2 (you know, the system with the biggest install base previous generation) you'll see that the title has done pretty well for itself given the circumstances.  Basically if you can't sell those types of games on a system as big as the PS2, what makes you think it would do better on the 360 or PS3?   Not only that but it kind of had the Dead Space Extraction problem of having too little content to garner the full price.

I mean No More Heroes sold just as about as much as Madworld (and if you can compare Clover's games to anyone it's Grasshopper)but you don't find Suda 51 complaining, he probably had his expectations set to a more reasonable level.

« on: March 31, 2010, 11:25:23 PM »
You know what? I actually bought and played through the whole game and it's really not as good as everyone says it is.  You spend most of the time just listening to people talk and wandering hallways with shaky-cam and the entire game is only about 5 hours long.  That's even after you wander through the same environments multiple times.  I didn't pay 50$ for it but if I did I would be pissed.  It should have never been relased for full price because it was not only short but painfully linear giving no real replay value.  Combine that with it being from a niece series in a niece genre and there's no wonder it sold so little.  The whole time playing I just wish I had control of the movement.  I can see EA selling it on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN for $15, having it be successful on that, and then using it as "evidence" that the Wii doesn't have a mature market.

I remember Johnny saying that the game didn't demo well because the demo mostly consisted of character interactions with little shooting, well that's actually what most of the game is like so that demo was pretty accurate.

I know I'm rambling but the whole situation and handling of the game kind of pisses me off.

There's no way that Eternal  Darkness screenshot isn't a bull shot.  Regardless, those screenshots don't look good but when do Wii screenshots ever look good besides when they're resolution is jacked up?

So, is it on a 2D plane or can you move in all direction freely?  I just wonder how playing this game will be with the tiny D-pad on the Wii remote.
