TalkBack / Two Brothers Still Slated for Wii U Release
« on: April 02, 2014, 04:07:44 AM »

A third party developer will be handling the upcoming port.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37023/two-brothers-still-slated-for-wii-u-release

Two Brothers is still slated for a Wii U release.

The game, a retro style RPG funded by a Kickstarter campaign, was due for release in January of last year. However, numerous delays have plagued the game and despite a release on the PC, it has not been released on the Wii U.

When asked if the Wii U version of the game was forgotten about, developer Ackkstudios responded on Twitter, "not at all!! It's being ported by another developer who is really good at wii u ports. Ensuring it gets the love it deserves."

It is unknown which developer is working on the Wii U version of Two Brothers and there is no current release date.

"We're excited to extend our partnership this year and develop new games based on some of the most popular characters and brands in the Cartoon Network portfolio,” said Pete Yoder, vice president of consumer products for Cartoon Network Enterprises.

The press article states that more information regarding the Adventure Time and multi-property games will be announced soon.

TalkBack / Andross Returns as an Assist Trophy in Smash Bros.
« on: March 28, 2014, 11:53:00 PM »

Fox McCloud's greatest adversary is back in assist trophy form.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36962/andross-returns-as-an-assist-trophy-in-smash-bros

Andross will return as an assist trophy in the upcoming Smash Bros. games.

"Oh, Uncle Andross. He really isn't very considerate." developer Masahiro Sakurai mentions in the post. He also attached a picture of Andross on the field.

First making an appearance in assist trophy form in Smash Bros. Brawl, Andross is seen in his SNES form as opposed to later forms. In Brawl, he would float into the background of the stage and spit polygonal debris to all the players in the field, racking up damage. It isn't known if Andross will retain his ability, or acquire a new one.

Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U are slated for a 2014 release.

Dr. Mario, paging Dr. Mario! Please report to all Wii U systems.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36970/nintendo-downloads-march-27-2014

Everyone's excited about the upcoming Game Boy Advance releases next week for the Wii U but sit tight, everyone! That's next week. This week we have skating cats, plumber doctors, and stylish stylists. Oh, and there's Clu Clu Land. But hey, it beats Volleyball or Tennis at this point.

Nintendo 3DS

I am an Air Traffic Controller Airport Hero Hawaii

Well, that's a pretty long title. But at the same time, the idea is clear, you are indeed an air traffic controller in this game! But it's up to you if you will be a Airport Hero. And I'm pretty sure it takes place in Hawaii so yeah you'll be there.

Skater Cat

This seems entirely implausible. Cats mostly just sleep or run across my backyard eating my dog's food. Why would they muster the energy to skate? Well, then again, you also have to consider I would never have thought that hedgehogs could be blue and run really fast, so Skater Cat has got me there.

3DS Virtual Console

Clu Clu Land

Clu Clu Land seems like one of those games Nintendo should revisit. It's a fun little puzzle game that doesn't take up too much time. The old school aesthetic applied to a remake would be pretty nice, too. But I'm not here to reminisce, this is a nice old school game to recommend to anyone.

Wii U

My Style Studio: Hair Salon

I like my hair. But I guess I could do something to change it, maybe spice it up a bit, you know? My Style Studio: Hair Salon will probably give me some great ideas. Good thing I'm not bald!

Wii U Virtual Console

Dr. Mario

I don't know how Mario found time to became a doctor. That takes a LOT of years to accomplish, and since he's so busy saving Peach, I'm not sure how he fit his residency in his busy schedule. But I guess when he's not busy kicking Bowser's butt he just wants to help out as many people as he can. If he's not fixing a clogged toilet, he's looking for a cure for the common cold. That's Mario for you!

Ubisoft Sale

NWR has information on the Ubisoft sale going on right now, so be sure to check out the list of games for sale and pick something up while you still can!

TalkBack / Legend of Zelda DLC Coming for Sonic Lost World
« on: March 27, 2014, 12:35:03 AM »

Sonic gets to open treasures chest, get pieces of heart, and fight Stalfos. Also, Link's on a Loftwing.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36953/legend-of-zelda-dlc-coming-for-sonic-lost-world

New Zelda-themed downloadable content is coming March 27 for the Wii U version of Sonic Lost World.

The free content is a stage with a Legend of Zelda theme. Wearing a green tunic familiar to Link's, Sonic's goal in the level is to slow down from his usual frantic pace and focus more on exploring content from previous Zelda games such as Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess. Rings are replaced by heart meters, and the free animals you collect in the game are replaced by rupees, although you'll be able to convert them once you finish the level. According to Sega, there are oodles of Zelda references nestled throughout the level and some might require multiple playthroughs.

The Legend of Zelda Zone for Sonic Lost World will be released on March 27.

TalkBack / Mario Golf: World Tour to Feature Simultaneous Multiplayer
« on: March 26, 2014, 07:06:47 PM »

No need for waiting to make that perfect shot.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36954/mario-golf-world-tour-to-feature-simultaneous-multiplayer

Simultaneous local multiplayer is being included in Mario Golf: World Tour when it launches in May. Additionally, the online multiplayer will make use of communities similar to Mario Kart 7.

During local multiplayer, players do not have to wait for others to make their shot, according to Polygon. Rather, players can play all at once without having to take turns. Small icons on the 3DS screen will allow players to see where their opponent's shots land and follow their progress via the bottom screen.

The online multiplayer will feature a similar concept where players can play rounds in tournaments at different times. The online experience will also feature communities that can have different rules and settings.

Mario Golf: World Tour will be released on May 2 in North America and Europe, and May 1 in Japan.

Pokémon, volleyball, Hello Kitty and more this week!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36899/nintendo-downloads-march-20-2014

This week isn't as heavy as last weeks, it seems, but there are still some games here to whet your appetite. If you've been looking to play anything that has Pokémon in it, Pokémon Battle Trozei will be sure to satisfy your fix. Ever wanted to play chess or volleyball in digital form? Well good news for you this week! Nothing this week is a megaton blockbuster, but there's still plenty to like.

Wii U eShop

Pure Chess - $7.99

Since I have no idea how to play chess the proper way (aside from looking at the figurines and thinking they're cool looking), the tutorial modes in this game from VooFoo Studios will probably give me a great idea as to how to play the game. Soon enough, I'll become the best chess master in the world, and replace the old guy that was on those Chessmaster 3000 games for so many years.

Hello Kitty Cruisers - $19.95

Mario has finally found his arch rival in racing as Hello Kitty and pals have taken it to the road! The infamous kitty and her pals will be able to soar the skies and race on the sea. For being such a recognizable figure, I know zero of Hello Kitty's friends. I think there's a frog. I don't know who else is Hello Kitty's friend.

3DS eShop

Pokemon Battle Trozei - $7.99

I have no idea what a Trozei is. All I do know is that Trozei is a Pokémon-themed puzzle game that is out today in North America. If you've been looking to grab it, now's your chance. So now that we got the obligatory non-RPG...is it time for Hoenn? One can only hope...

Pure Chess - $7.99

It's the same title that's on the Wii U, but on the 3DS. I've always wanted a portable version of chess, and now here it is! In all honesty though, I don't think I've ever learned how to play the game properly. I have a better idea of how to play checkers. But there is no Pure Checkers out there, now is there? (Or maybe I just gave the developers a brilliant idea for a sequel!)

Yumi's Odd Odyssey - $29.99

Yumi's Odd Odyssey will have you coasting through levels using a fishing pole. Think Bionic Commando...except not. You'll also have to avoid all those weird walking fish that might impede you along the way.

Wii U Virtual Console

Volleyball - $4.99

Move over, Super Mario Bros. 3, the real game everyone's been wanting on the Wii U is now out-- Volleyball! The 1986 classic is now available for you to own on the Wii U console.  That ten minutes you'll spend clunkily playing volleyball will be magical, I'm sure.

Wii U eShop Promotion

Wii Sports Club

Wii Sports Club: Tennis, Wii Sports Club: Golf, and Wii Sports Club: Bowling will have free access from March 21 at 9am PT to March 23 11:59 PT.

Both system models are based on the recently released Pokémon Battle Trozei, which released on March 12. The consoles, which come in white or black, are decorated with different decals of various Pokémon.

However, the consoles will not be available in stores, and can only be obtained through a contest held by both the Pokémon Daisuki Club website and CoroCoro magazine. Only five winners will obtain the elusive consoles.

Pokémon Battle Trozei will be available in North America on March 20. Nothing has been said about the new models being released outside of Japan, but you can check the images below for what they look like.

TalkBack / Solid Snake 'Not Likely' for Upcoming Smash Bros. Games
« on: March 14, 2014, 08:08:00 PM »

He'll just have to do his stealthing somewhere else.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36852/solid-snake-not-likely-for-upcoming-smash-bros-games

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima doesn't believe Solid Snake will return as a playable character in either of the upcoming Super Smash Bros. games this year.

In an interview with Geoff Keighley for Twitch, Kojima stated, "I'm not working on that game so I don't know, but I don't think that's likely."

Kojima, however, is not against the idea of the stealth icon returning to the fray. "Well, if Mr. Sakurai is watching this, please use Snake" he added.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS are currently scheduled for release this year.

TalkBack / Nintendo Downloads - March 13, 2014
« on: March 14, 2014, 07:18:10 AM »

This week, Yoshi's New Island is the big one.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36844/nintendo-downloads-march-13-2014

This week, Yoshi's New Island is the big game on the new releases block! But there are also a slew of other games coming out for both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Want to play the Super Mario Bros. game that didn't exist here until 1993? Now you can! Do you wish to further refine your ABC skills? It's here! Enjoy popping bubbles? We got that for you here as well this week, so let's take a look.

3DS Retail Games

Yoshi's New Island (Available March 14) - $39.99

The baby Mario crying simulator will soon be yours. This time he's crying because he and baby Luigi were taken to the wrong parents, and now have to get back to their rightful family. I thought the stork would be more organized than that, but I guess sometimes things just happen.

Madagascar 3 & The Croods Prehistoric Party Combo Pack - $29.95

I haven't watched any of these Dreamworks movies, but I'm pretty sure the talking animals say wittier things than I do. Actually, I'm sure of that. Sounds like a great bargain for two games in one.

3DS eShop Games

Bubble Pop World - $4.99

Bubble Pop World uses the 3DS's AR abilities to pop bubbles in a variety of stages. This sounds pretty cool, but I like popping bubble wrap a lot too; I wonder if they're going to release a game like that anytime soon. Regardless, this should be fun for all of the bubble popping fans across the world.

Cube Tactics - $4.99

This strategy game for the 3DS has you pitted in a war. A war of the cubes. It sounds pretty fun, with a variety of quests to do as well as online multiplayer. Just remember, though- all fair in love and war. With cubes.

Lola's ABC Party - $3.99

Giving this game to your kid is great primer for young children. Soon they'll be reading at a 4th grade level in kindergarten and will be doing calculus by the second grade! Okay, maybe not. After all, I can't even do calculus. Or algebra, for that matter. I'm not a math major, obviously.

Wii U Virtual Console

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels - $4.99

Stick it to the people who thought this game was too hard for western audiences by purchasing this and beating it. Trust me, the difficulty is amped up big time, but once you beat it, you'll be rewarded justly. Well, it'll just be a sense of self-satisfaction, but that's still pretty cool.

3DS Virtual Console

Galaga - $4.99

Soon you'll be able to shoot lasers out of spaceships and destroy weird creatures with the NES classic Galaga! I don't really know what else to say. There is nothing to be said, that's pretty much the point of the game! It is an all time great game, I must admit. Who doesn't enjoy destroying space creatures? Probably the space creatures themselves. I don't think they like that.

Downloadable Content

CastleStorm Warrior Queen Expansion - $2.99

The Warrior Queen expansion pack for CastleStorm adds a whole bunch of cool weapons, including using Golem hostages. I wonder how they actually hold these Golems hostages. I'm sure it's not an easy task at all.

Sales

SteamWorld Dig - 50% off

People have been telling me to get this and I really, really need to. Especially now that it's 50% off! Reviews have been glowing and this is an all time low offer so it's in your best interest to nab this as soon as you can!

Zen Studios Pinball Sale - 50% off

Pinball has sure evolved since the days of Pinball for the NES. Well, maybe not, but the graphics are prettier, I'm sure of that one. This game a best bet for pinball action and at 50% off, it's sure to be a fun time.

TalkBack / Watch Dogs Might Hit Wii U in 2014
« on: March 06, 2014, 05:01:39 PM »

The Wii U version hit technical setbacks delaying it past the other versions.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36774/watch-dogs-might-hit-wii-u-in-2014

Watch Dogs for Wii U is still in development and is slated for a possible release in 2014. It is being delayed past the other versions, which are due out in late May, because of some technical issues and a desire for using the GamePad effectively.

Watch Dogs is still in development at Ubisoft Romania, according Senior Producer Dominic Guay in a Polygon interview. The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal on other platforms.

"Yeah it's still alive," Guay said. "We still haven't defined a ship date for it, though. So it's on hold, to a certain extent for shipping."

Guay cited that one of the reasons for delaying the game's release date was due to the game having problems running on the Wii U hardware. The studio in Romania is also still working on ways to incorporate the GamePad into the experience.

A 2014 ship date is still a possibility, though Guay wouldn't confirm it. Watch Dogs was previously announced for a November 2013 release on Wii U before it was delayed with the other versions to spring 2014, and then delayed again.

TalkBack / Blok Drop U Review
« on: March 06, 2014, 12:00:00 PM »

Dropping bloks is simple, but satisfying!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/36758/blok-drop-u-review

More and more independent games are making their way to the Wii U, and the latest title to arrive is Blok Drop U, developed by a one-man team at RCMADIAX. Blok Drop U is quite the satisfactory game at its budget price. It’s not overly long, but while it lasts, it’s a clever experience.

The goal of the game is to land a red, heart-patterned block, which is seated on top of several bigger blocks, to the floor while avoiding possible traps as well as dodging pitfalls surrounding each level. The game makes use of the Wii U Game Pad’s touch screen exclusively; using the screen, players touch the blocks underneath the designated block at the right time in order to get the block to where it needs to be to clear the level. This is great for gamers who want to make use of the TV-free gameplay some of the Wii U games offer. It seems that the game was almost designed for such a feature.

There are 30 levels in all as of this writing (the developer has promised additional levels in the future), varying in difficulty. The first section of the game is focused on the basics of landing the square in the right position, touching the blocks at the right time, and so on. The second part, which was the most challenging, involves avoiding roaming spikes that impede your progress. These levels require more thinking and precise timing in order to get the block in the right position without running into the treacherous spikes. The third and final set of levels has the block seated on a large, bouncing block platform. Most of the time, using the bouncing block is integral to get to the platform and clear the stage. I didn’t find this as tricky at the previous set of levels, but it still provided an interesting challenge.

While the game is difficult and at times, rather rewarding, there’s not a whole lot to do here once all 30 levels are done. It’s possible to go back and go through them again, but there is no option to pick out which level to try again (players must play through each stage before getting to the one they wish to try again), nor is there really any reason to play it again once the game is completed. The presentation is quite lacking as well. It’s all simple and to the point, which gets especially grating as you hear the same song on a loop throughout the entire game.

Regardless, Blok Drop U is a fun, addictive puzzler at a bargain price that is no nonsense in its gameplay and presentation. It’s short and simple, and is enjoyable for what it is. It’s not lengthy, but it isn’t meant to keep gamers at bay for hours at end. Rather, it’s something one can play and enjoy on a short break in between other games. Even in its brevity, it’s addicting, as you’ll surely be repeatedly trying to get that block with the heart-shaped logo out of harm’s way.
