I hadn't uploaded anything in a while, and I wanted to test if you could make a 7-7 style level from Mario 3 (grab multiple stars and run until the finish over Munchers). Turns out... not so much.

I'm hoping as this game continues to exist we'll see more and more interesting says of manipulating its mechanics to create more interesting levels than the traditional Mario levels. I've already started making a Zelda themed level after my initial Dobksh Kong Themed level (very much inspired by the recent Metroid-themed article on NWR), and I very much challenge you all to do the same.

I like to think I've abused the Super Mario Maker engine. Inspired by an old Game & Watch I once had...

Still can't figure out youtube embeds... regardless, I had to edit the course a bit, so the course may be a bit different then the one showcased in the video.

It's VERY frustrating that apparantly you can't set up a wall that will keep the player from jumping over it and have the vertically locked camera. For those of you not in the know-how yet, if you don't have any blocks on the upper half of the stage, it will lock the camera from vertically panning when your player jumps up onto higher platforms. the problem is that it doesn't also do the thing that wrapps blocks infinatley so the stage can't just be jumped over. 1-2 style, which means you either have to put in a ceiling or have a bunch of empty space in order to make it so your player can't cheese your level if you want to route them through a sub-level.

We have created quite a few new levels these are the best of the bunch I believe.
Against the Grain (FD8A-0000-0055-DF99)
Littlebigplanet (2982-0000-0084-5E9F)
Twist and Battle-(D22E-0000-0058-818A)
Dog Pound (0435-0000-0092-9783)
Coastin' with Yoshi and Homies (3BCB-0000-004D-408A)

We are just now getting more into messing with backgrounds ect to create a more artistic vibe with the levels. I love this game! I enjoy just messing around with the editor and see what works. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. .

(AFEA-0000-0097-0D5F) If you know how to use the cape this is a rather thrilling time to be had.

And after some tinkering I managed to fully implement my idea for a pseudo secret exit in a personal favorite of mine, "Bowser Jr. Gets Shipped Out [DX]"

Hello everyone!

I have listed a bunch of levels at http://www.mariomakerhub.com/levels?name=&maker=jepense&sort=created_at&dir=desc but I'll promote my two favorites here.

Super mario galaxy 3
ID: FA15-0000-0044-8A76
This is a puzzle level with gravity flipping. It's my highest rated level by far.

Red hot railway
ID: 43F2-0000-007D-DD7C
This is a pure platforming level, where for most of the level you ride platforms and try to avoid hazards.

Thanks everyone who responded to my earlier call for level design style tips! I just wanted to let you know that the first part of the feature is up now on the site!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/41262/how-do-you-super-mario-maker

I'll be rolling a new part out every couple of days so people can get featured in batches and not get lost in an instant blast of like, 20 blurbs at once. I'm also proceeding roughly in order of submission so those who sent in tips first are generally getting featured first! (This also means there's still time for new submissions!)

Let me know if there's anything I need to edit or change for your entries!

Cool Thread, checking out a lot of the levels here. New member on the forum.  Long time fan of the podcast.

Here are some levels I created. The mystery mushrooms are keeping me in the SMB1 tile set because I'm a Nintendo nerd. I tried making levels based around the costumes. These are my two strongest I feel.

Slippy Shipwrecked on Aquas! (AB4C-0000-005F-DB30)

What's Up, Doc Mario Outbreak?! (EE11-0000-00AB-0BAB)

Would love some feedback.

Mario of the Dead

CCF4-0000-00AD-4AD5

In this level I set out to recreate the events of a zombie apocolypse in the mushroom kingdom. The first half of the level is a happy experience with little challenge but some clues for later. In the second half you awake to a destroyed version of the same town where you must solve puzzles and use more skill to escape.

Constructive criticism welcome!

My levels so far:
49D0-0000-0079-EAD4 "Underground" First level. Just a SMB1 Underworld level.
c092-0000-007A-B492 - "The Goblin King's Lair" An evolution of Underground, longer with some tight jumps.
2167-0000-007B-86FB-"Can you make it?" A standard, but challenging SMB1 Level.
BC16-0000-007D-E7C5-"Grasslands"- A NSMB styled level
6C40-0000-007F-29A4-"Underwater Nightmare" A NSMB Underwater level featuring a maze.
D018-0000-0080-7093- "Classic Castle"- My take on a SMB1 Bowser's Castle.
075E-0000-008A-5AA0-"The Koopa Inquisition"-A SMB3 Scrolling air ship level. Hope your reflexes are good.
B61B-0000-0095-1743-"Trick or Treat" You approach the scary house on Halloween night. Do you get a trick or a treat? Choose wisely.
C3F2-0000-009D-4DC3-"Pyramid in the Sky" a scrolling SMB3 air level. Move quickly.
9BA6-0000-00A8-8508- "Whom are your Cheering for?" A  level dedicated to the most recent Sunday Night Football game.

More levels.

Keep On Dreamin': This one should be a crowd pleaser. Easier than most of my levels.
6F10-0000-00BE-037F

Standing Wave: Difficult but also pretty neat.
557C-0000-00BB-6049

Old School: Inspired by pinball and other classic games. I think the music blocks accurately simulate the anxiety of pinball flippers, at least for me...

also, in light of today's news, I'm going to be overhauling and reuploading almost all my levels to include progressive powerups (Wigglin' Wolt's bastion, Soda Steppe, Boolistics, etc.) and checkpoints. (outside of whispy woods, Rail Ravine, and possibly comet trail if I can't find a good spot to even put a checkpoint in that one.)

First time posting here but maybe some people here can help me out. I feel like my stages are between the Normal to Hard difficulty (with some more on one side or another) but even ones I feel are easier seem to have bad clear rates and I think it might just be not enough people playing them.

I like themes for stages and also like wall jump stages (so if you have one I'd like to play it also) so "Wall Jumps Will Work" (SM64 reference) was the first one I wanted to make before I even had the game with the idea of making "Wall Jump Nightmare" to be the more hardcore one. The first has an ok 12.58% clear rate but so far nobody has cracked Nightmare (other than me beating it at a friend's house). I will note that there are no invisible block tricks or anything else of the sort. Though hard, from what I've seen from other people I don't feel any of mine reach that "insane" difficulty some stages have.

Wall Jumps Will Work:
072C-0000-0033-286D
Wall Jump Nightmare:
6A55-0000-0096-FFA2

Aside from that I have some other ones I'm really happy with like "Pow Wow" which is a sorta puzzle-ish one involving using pow blocks as steps to get into doors and remove obstacles to get into pipes and such. Then "My Pal Yoshi" as almost a tutorial on some of the things you can use Yoshi for (with no sacrificing needed!) and both also have no clears other than the one I did at my friend's house x.x

Pow Wow:
2FFF-0000-00B0-6D2C
My Pal Yoshi:
7860-0000-00C9-F6CA

I'm at my upload limit currently so I'm wondering if I should take down some to retool or just hope for more stars. I can still keep making stages anyway, the upload limit can't stop that lol.
