Hey guys,

I interviewed for a guerilla marketing business in San Francisco that targeted web forums.

I was told that if I accepted the job, I was to have at LEAST 50 identities on as many forums as I could muster (they wanted 100 eventually), with a goal of 5 posts an hour.  The posts had to be well thought out, and the idea was that I was to establish multiple identities with a history on the forums, so that when the timing was right a well written but subtly placed marketing post could be finessed in.  And regular visitors would recognize the post as coming from a long time poster.

They had 12 people working there full time, and were hiring 10 more.  You do the math.  No wait, I'll do it for you:  that's 880 posts a day (if minimum was met).  However he said the better ones could do around 8 or 10 an hour.  And they had different "verticals" so there was the sports guy, and the games guy, the hentai, excuse me I mean anime guy, etc.

But the most critical point was this: develop and integrate the identity.  No random "HEY EB GAMES IS AWESOME BUY THIS" stuff.

Kinda spooky.

Somehow I'm not surprised, but this confirmation makes it somehow creepier.

WHO CAN YOU TRUST?

That's okay, though, most of the time when I'm on forums I do it because I like to hear myself speak...I mean, see myself write...than to actually take someone else's opinions as gold.

(There might be a tenth planet, actually.  Multiple times farther out than Pluto.  So that's another one that's uninhabitable.)

I recall a guy did change his name to "Turok" for a year, and a couple sold the rights to name their kid on eBay.  I think the name became "Pepsi" or something.

Also, and I found this on Wikipedia the other day, this guy changed his name to "Optimus Prime" because the original Optimus Prime of the Transformers (G1) was like a father figure to him.  Not quite marketing but it could be.

Not surprised, Ive actually spotted a few of these people.

This forum is a inmune to this thankfully, we are Nintendo fanboys so we dont need their advertisement most of the time, and if bill suddenly starts to hype killzone psp he will be spotted easily in less than a nano second.

Killzone PSP lol, why not just get Coded Arms, it's a very fun PSP first person shooter.  You can pick it up at your local EB Games, although it may be hard to find because it is in very high demand, it's almost always sold out because everyone wants it.  but if you can find it, it is a very good game and worth the price tag.

Coded Arms -- Hottest new PSP game? Yes!
Totally. Sold. Out.

Here's the lowdown. In my city, there are 2 EB Games, 3 GameStops, 1 GameXchange, 5 Blockbusters, 3 Movie Galleries, a Circuit City, 3 Walmart Supercenters, and a BestBuy.

Nobody has this effin' title. It sold out Day 1! Well, one good thing comes of the title being sold out -- it can be traded in and sold for cheaper! Fortunately, I finally found a pre-played copy of Coded Arms which had actually been traded in not long before I came in and bought it. So, I've had a few good hours with the game, single-player albeit, and here's what I have to say.

**** Lumines. This game takes the cake by far. The first FPS on the PSP, this game is absolutely incredible. Let me go ahead and state now that, even though I often enjoy them, I'm pretty bad when it comes to playing an FPS. Counterstrike, UT2004, Far Cry, etc. Well! Coded Arms, for a noob like me, absolutely rocks.

Its first, foremost, and greatest feature is the aim assist. It can be disabled and adjusted over 5 different levels of accuracy. It's really awesome -- when you get fairly close to your target with your cursor, it'll automatically target the enemy! It doesn't follow them if they move, but it does definitely help out just to get a fix on 'em.

Next, the controls. I was a little afraid of how the game would handle on the system, but I should've known better than to doubt the development team at Konami. Every button is used, including the analog stick, and everything works perfectly. Your action buttons are used for turning up, down, left, and right. The Directional buttons are as follows -- Up brings you to a Zoom p.o.v., Down reloads your current weapon, and Left and Right switch between the 5 weapons you have equipped. There are more than 5, but you can only carry 5. The L Shoulder button is used to Jump, and the R Shoulder button fires your current weapon. Lastly, the Analog Stick is used for moving. You can change directions while moving by using the analog stick and the action buttons in tandem, obviously.

The music's decent enough for an FPS. Mostly techno. Pretty basic stuff.

The graphics are pretty nice when compared alongside some of the other PSP games. Koanmi didn't falter here and they continue to produce A+ stuff for the PSP.

Like I said, forget Lumines. Trade it in and buy this if you can find it and I swear you won't be disappointed. Not only is this a great PSP game, it's a great FPS. It's a lot of fun, the interface is awesome, and the gameplay and controls are both very solid. Buy this game!

Black
Just got the demo yesterday from work, although it had been there for a few days. I have to say that judging from the demo, this game looks incredible.

Black is an FPS developed by the creators of the Burnout series -- Criterion Studios and published by EA -- with remarkable controls, surprisingly near next-gen graphics and excellent lighting and sound effects. I found myself playing the demo over and over again.

Anyway, the demo is incredible. This could definitely be a "Killzone-killer" of sorts if you had to call it anything. It looks better than Killzone and, in my opinion, plays better too. The reason I don't play console FPSs is because I'm a keyboard-and-mouse FPS player and I prefer it that way, but Black has an excellent control scheme that is very easy to use with a low learning curve. You'll be playing it in no time.

Try your earnest to find a demo of this game. It's well worth it, and you'll see it in stores February 28th.

lol. This one goes pretty well until he says it'll be better than Killzone. Considering even South Park 64 is better than Killzone.

I love my job. I mean, who wouldn't like interviewing celebrities for a living? I really enjoy coming to work everyday; the environment here is wonderful. However, lately something has been troubling me. Whenever I interview someone, it seems like I just ask them a few questions, they plug their new project, and it's over just like that. It's so impersonal.. I feel like I never get to know them well enough, and they're just using me. So, I've decided that I'm going to go into the audience, and interview a perfectly normal person with a mundane life..

Ian likes Street Fighter and other SNES era fighters. He also likes non-spinoff Mario games. Plus 2d castlevania. He'll never come out and say this, but I've deduced this from his various posts.

I honestly reckon this **** is carried out with movies all the fucking time.
Seriously 300 anyone? The movie seemed to have hype on the interent coming from nowhere. And it was just a boring green screen action flick.
How about I Am Legend it's a bloody zombie movie starring Will Smith, Prince of Boring, yet internets were all over it.

And now I'm looking suspiciously at Brandogg, who even cares about Weezer anymore? Why the thread?

300 was a terrible, terrible, terrible movie, but the internet hype was not planted, but normal and expected.

I gave in in the hype of boomblox, zack and wiki and okami, so if the games suck I will blame all of you, you damn plants!.

What didn't you like so much about 300?  I wasn't even all that excited about it before-hand (the main thing that got me interested was the NIN song used for the trailers, 'cause I'm a huge NIN fan), but I walked away VERY satisfied with the flick.

Damn it, this thread is nothing what I thought it was going to be.

300 rocks. Iron Man is awesome. Indiana Jones Crystal Skull sux it big time.

And NIN IS awesome, just for clarification. Also, downloaded the new Filter album last night. Not bad. No standout gems like previous efforts, but still standard fare that can be expected from Filter. How I wish Gravity Kills was still around.

300 was goofy as all hell.  Best version is the Rifftrax version.  i.e.:

Faramir:  We do what we were trained to do.  What we were bred to do.  What we were born to do.

MST3K gang:  What we were cast, choreographed, and costumed to do.  What we were bluescreened and digitized to do.  What we were shaved to do.

Have you checked out Cinematic Titanic?  To me it feels a lot closer to the spirit of MST3K... still no robots, but there are at least silhouettes, and the jokes trend more toward silliness and obscure pop culture references and less toward just being really angry at the movie.

On most rifftrax now, both Bill Corbett (Crow) and Kevin Murphy (Tom) do the riffing along side Mike.

No, see, I need the silhouettes of their robot characters.  It's a deep-rooted psychological condition to require talking robot puppets to deliver commentary on shitty movies, I guess.

Your loss, then.

Because http://www.rifftrax.com is THE place for MST3K fans to go.  Mike, Kevin, Bill, and a myriad of celebrities and old MST3K alumni appear and riff both movies and television shows.  Old and new, good and bad, no movie or actor is safe.

Remember, at Rifftrax, they don't make movies, they make them funny!
