The dead cat bounce update.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/45010/wii-u-receives-first-system-software-update-in-eighteen-months

The Wii U has become a little bit more stable.

A new system software is now available for Nintendo's previous console, version 5.5.2U. The first system software update for the system since January 11 of last year, the update notes are simply "Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience".

Some sources are reporting that browser exploits were fixed that prevent some homebrew, but this has not been confirmed.

Any stock on the rumor of miiverse being shut down? Or is that just bs?

I actually used the browser exploit to install the homebrew channel in Wii Mode really easily. It's a shame to see that go.

The worst possible news! :O This website claims that dataminers indeed found such a message. I'm sure Nintendo will kill the Miiverse eventually, or maybe reduce it to a read-only type of deal; how popular is it on 3DS though?

Would be rubbish for Mario Maker and Splatoon in particular. D'you think Splatoon would just endlessly display existing posts, or does it have stock phrases prepared for non-connected devices? I know for certain Affordable Space Adventures' miiverse functionality has back-up stock posts for disconnected Wii U's, would imagine other games have been outfitted with those too.

I wonder if this will do anything to lessen the increasing hacker problem in online games.

There are also billboards featuring in-game logos and brands, so I would guess that the posts would be replaced by those.

I suspect it will go down eventually, but not for several years. Unless there's an absolute showstopper security issue with the system, this is the last firmware update the Wii U's going to get so they might as well load in the goodbye message now.

At the very least it will contain it for now. Disabling the browser exploit completely cuts off any new systems from being able to run homebrew outside of Wii Mode until a new exploit if found and anyone who didn't use the browser exploit to install the homebrew launcher directly onto the system (instead just using the exploit when they wanted to run homebrew.) is also out of luck.

I used the browser exploit to install the homebrew channel on Wii mode so I could use Nintendont. You would literally just set some stuff up on an SD card and go to a specific website and that somehow launches homebrew just like that.
