On the topic of Nintendo releasing retro games, the smart and handsome question asker left open the possibility of Nintendo finishing off an unreleased game. And they've done this, at least one and more depending if you count localising.
So my firth thought was Star Fox 2 which was finished off and released for the Super Nintendo Mini Classic.
The other option is the often forgotten localisation of Fire Emblem™ Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, which was available as a standalone purchase on the Switch eshop for a limited time. They even did a physical version with a commemorative NES cart.

Jon mentioning how in the past people moved on from consoles once the next one came out reminds me of when I bought an NES as a kid in late 1993.  I had gotten the itch to play the original Zelda so when Funcoland had something like a used NES and a game for $20 I had to get one.  I walked in and asked the 20-something clerk for a Nintendo and Zelda.  I remember him pausing and giving me a funny look.  He asked me if I meant a Super Nintendo and A Link to the Past.  I said no, an original Nintendo and the first Zelda please.  He continued giving me a perplexed look and again asked me if I was sure.  I said yes.  He said alright in an “it’s your funeral pal” tone and went and got them for me.  My friends were also surprised I “wasted” $20 on an old game like that.

An important note: As of today, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S's online is in a different queue than the original, and the orginal's queue is much quicker to populate. Learned that from Good Vibes Gaming's review of Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S. So if you want to buy this game specifically for online play, you might be better of getting the original instead of the Switch 2 version unless they end up patching it in the future

It seems like the Ducks were just done with him to trade him for what amounts to a pretty low return. I think you'll like Poehling, you probably remember him from the Penguins but he's turned himself into a very good bottom 6 center. The Flyers desperately needed players with high end skill, though, particularly at center, so this feels like a swing worth taking. If he can bounce back it'd be huge, and if he ends up playing with Michkov that could result in some crazy highlight reel plays (on both ends, since neither of them seem all that interested in defense).
