TalkBack / Game Boy Advance SP Marketing Blitz
« on: March 05, 2003, 01:23:18 PM »
I guess you can call that Guerilla Marketing.  I'm still undecided on the SP. Either I A) Skip it B) Trade in my current GBA to buffer the cost (Wonder how much I can get for it?) or C) Get the after-burner.

The Game Boy on the GC seems more enticing to my tastes. Oh well...

TalkBack / ATI and Nintendo Further Their Partnership
« on: March 04, 2003, 02:07:55 PM »
"in the PC market you have ATI vs. nVidia which maps to Nintendo's partner vs. Microsoft's partner."

Looks almost like a tag team match

So far the news have scratched the surface what fellow competitor Sony is doing; some sort of Cell Chip technology so powerful, that it is the equivalent of 10 PS2's. I'll believe that when I see it. (E3 perhaps?)

" hope at the very least that Nintendo uses ATI to make the "GameSphere" backwards compatiable with the GameCube."

Word. Microsoft and Nintendo could take a page out of Sony's Playbook and make their next consoles have the ability to play the games we have now. Less hardware to lug around.

But as always (even though its cliche) if it don't make dollars it don't make cents....(pun intended)

TalkBack / Judge Rules in Mad Catz's Favor
« on: March 04, 2003, 01:33:04 PM »
The question is: Does it really matter?

Ever since GameShark and Datel split,  isn't the GameShark just a name? Almost like saying "Here's my body, but my Brain has gone of to make its fortune. But the body is still good."

Or does Mad Catz have the proverbial ace up its sleeve?

I have to have to say ditto. with the exception of Time Splitters 2, most of the Shooters have this 'Authentic' theme to them. Make them as real as possible. Wonder if the Japanese might get offended?

Wonder if the Germans got offended in Frontline?

TalkBack / Soul Calibur 2 European Release Date Revealed
« on: March 04, 2003, 01:19:19 PM »
No doubt this may have been already covered but just to refresh some facts:

Todd Mcfarlene (Creator of Spawn) helped design the 'hidden' character Necrid, exculisve to all console versions.  Now whether this is related to including Link or not; perhaps Namco thought it was unfair to have 2 'hidden characters' on Gamecube but  not on PS2 or XboX.  While including HeiHaChi in the PS2 version was a pleasant surprise (So far  it seems he's unarmed by default), what to include in  the XboX version may have been a riddle McFarlene  and  Namco had to figure out.

Why not Spawn? A little promotion never hurt anyone

This seems logical, but I could be mistaken

Looks like European gamers are in for a treat. The U.S release is around the same time, so all Westerners rejoice. "yay...."

Perhaps theyr'e developing both versions at the same time?

What's does NTSC and PAL stand for anyway?

I have to say thanks for what you people do for us. Whereas other sites (That shall remain nameless) charge for news, media and only alloting you to see so many pics before you  have "excedded your daily download", You people have not twisted people's arm for cash.

Instead the news, screens and movies are available for ALL who wish to see it, not just for "previliaged" folked. Thanks for your dedication and hard work, "Keep on Truckin'" as they Say.

P.S Is Louie going to get a Silver litterbox in honor of 4 years? Just curious....

General Gaming / Pro Logic II on Gamecube FAQ
« on: March 02, 2003, 03:40:55 PM »
[Hmm... I've got about $100 to spend. What should I do?
If you're looking at a Pro Logic II system in that range, forget it. If you can somehow come up with enough to get into the HTIB range, hold off until you can do that.]

Hate to bust your bubble but if you're a super cheapskate and have a nose for deals you can pick up a decent entry Pro Logic system. I own Altec Lansing's 251 set, and it supports all formats, 5.1 included. You can use it with your PC, Game Cube (Obviously or I wouldn't be posting this) CD player, etc. While Game Cube doesn't support Surround sound 5.1, if you have a PS2 or Xbox w/ a reciever to put in the optical Cables, it will.

The two gripes are that its only 90 watts, and the cables don't lend themselves well to positioning. I got it shortly before Mario Sunshine launched, but I could hear the difference. Eternal Darkness and Metroid  Prime never sounded better. And ironically,  the Recent Zelda bonus disk makes the best use of DPL though I'm uncertain whether it was Pro Logic I or II.

I got mine on sale at Best Buy and it works like a charm. Its the jack of  all trades of sound, so if you got  100 (plus sales Tax), give it a whirl.

TalkBack / Miyamoto D.I.C.E. Roundtable Highlights
« on: February 28, 2003, 02:05:48 PM »
    * Finally, it just so happened that Britney Spears was in London at about the same time as Miyamoto was last week. People have been saying that more people showed up to see Miyamoto than Spears, which should come as no surprise to any of us.

That's because our cojones don't shrink when we say we're gamers! Looks like the UK is getting "Shiggy with it"

* A new Donkey Kong game was mentioned, with no hint of a specific developer. No comment was made about it showing up this year's E3.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that they're going to have to start from scratch. Can Nintendo use Diddy Kong, Dixie, Funky, Cranky and the rest of the gang?Or are they Rare's apes?

As far as Online plans, talk about stubborn! Turning your Game Cube into  a LAN sounds nice (Might be a lot easier than the XboX) but will that entice gamers as much as playing online? Wonder what else devolopers will do with GBA-GC connectivity?

TalkBack / Silicon Knights Update
« on: February 28, 2003, 01:45:39 PM »
[SK wants the upcoming games to have more flash and "pizazz" than Eternal Darkness did.]

Hmm... seems as if they were dissatisfied with ED. I don't understand why, it was pretty damn good. I remember just beating Resident Evil and starting ED thinking "damn.... those graphics are....interesting..." But after a few hours, I just my shut my mouth.

[SK admits that Eternal Darkness left many loose ends in its story and that those loose ends may one day be explored in a new game. However, such a game is not necessarily in development right now.]

From my understanding Too Human is to be an Epic of Epic proportions, one can only keep their fingers crossed that SK will have an Eternal Darkness sequel of sort will pop up during the Game Cube's life cycle.

TalkBack / Metal Gear Solid on GameCube - CONFIRMED
« on: February 27, 2003, 04:55:40 PM »
I'm going to steal a line from  'Sports Entertainers'

GIMME A HELL YEAH!

FINALLY, Metal Gear has come back to Nin-ten-doooooo.

OK, its out of my system now

The question now is: Is it a new adventure or a Remake? It'll be nice if its a new venture, but a Re-make will suffice. But if they remake, will it be done a la Resident Evil?  Maybe we'll have something to see at E3 perhaps?

TalkBack / Midway Looking for a Few Good Cheerleaders
« on: February 27, 2003, 01:36:42 PM »
I'm not much of a sports gamer save for some Tony Hawk, SSX Tricky and NBA Street.

My question is if Midway has the dough to get Famous Faces, why not make a better a game instead? And Cheerleaders for a Baseball game?

It seems the real winners here are the women signing up hoping to use this as as stepping stone(Chances these are the same women who probably didn't give you the time of day in high school because you were a proud gamer; and laughed at the notion of you asking them to the prom. ). Do they even play Video Games? I almost take  it as an insult that all you need is some digital T&A to boost sales? Think BMX XXX, end of story.

I'm a little out of my element here, but its the principle that counts right?

TalkBack / Square Unveils Seiken Densetsu for GBA
« on: February 26, 2003, 06:35:51 PM »
Hopefully this will kickstart one of  Square's (Is it still Square's franchise by the way?)  franchises that  seemed to go under the radar. For those who haven't played Seiken Densetsu 3, I urge you to in any way shape or form (hint hint hint). Why Square canned its U.S release for Super Mario RPG, God only knows(Its that Damn good.). And while Legend of Mana was a tight game, it just lacked the cohesiveness of  SD3.

Since they have staff from all previous projects, this seems to an ambitious title. Can't wait to hear further news!

TalkBack / Nintendo down for the count? Not even close.
« on: February 25, 2003, 10:03:35 AM »
I read that editorial and it has some good comments. "Mature" gaming is in the eye of the beholder.

At 20 years of age, I haven't put down my controller, chances are, I never will. The gaming industry has grown up with us; from a novelty to a force to be reckoned with.

What the Big N should do is not sell out to appeal to older gamers, but just divide the way it approaches its gamers. A seperate ad campaign for its older crowd and one for the younger demographic. The GBA SP is hinting at this sort of idea, will they follow through?

Nintendo is the last company that all they do is Games and Hardware. Whereas as if Sony were to just quit making games, it can fall back on their HDTV's, Sound systems, computers, etc. And if Microsoft called a quits, its still the world's largest PC software maker. If the Big N said bye-bye, that 's it. No more.  End. Finito. (Wonder how the card business would treat them.)

Simply put, it ain't over till  its over.

TalkBack / Capcom to Deliver a New GBA Zelda
« on: February 25, 2003, 09:30:09 AM »
An interesting turn of events. I was worried that Link would not have an original GBA adventure to star in. I loved Link to the Past (Haven't played 4 swords yet, no wants to play with me )  and  Link is due for an all new romp-fest on the little screen.

Maybe we'll we see Mario in his own original adventure on GBA? One can only hope....

TalkBack / New Sonic Anime!
« on: February 22, 2003, 04:44:56 PM »
I guess coming off of Kirby's heels, we're seeing a resurgence of Game characters with their own shows. I remember watching Sonic back in elementary school right after school and on Saturday  mornings. My question is how the hell did they get away with that? The one series I saw weekdays mainly had Scratch and Grounder (Robotnik's badniks), and the occasional appearance of Robitnik's mother (The apple didn't fall too far from the tree.)! The one on Saturday's had Sonic in a more gothic  setting, with interesting supporting characters (Sally, that Bunny who was cybernetical enchanced who I can't get the name of the top of my head right now, and who could forget that Pierre the coward?)

Its amazing I could recall all that. I feel old

Perhaps we'll see Mario and/or Link make a comeback? Mario would seem straight foward. (Wonder what Captain Lou Albano is doing lately j/k.) Mario and Luigi sticking it to Bowser and/ or Wario. (What if Wario got his own show...)

But what about Link? What art direction would they use? The one based on Wind Waker or perhaps?  My imagination is running away from me, better quit while I'm ahead.

TalkBack / Golden Sun: The Lost Age Transfer Details
« on: February 22, 2003, 04:29:21 PM »
So much for saying "We're all friends here."

I can't wait for this title to hit  stateside. It seems A chunk of the good games coming out are RPG's. The Wind Waker is on the horizon, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles will mark Square's (Hopefully) grand return to the big N. Not to mention Final Fantasy Tatics, Secret of Mana, Gladius (despite the fact its coming out on all platforms. But hey, its Lucas Arts we're talking about.)  Now if only Giftipia was confirmed for North America...

Golden Sun combined the best of the old with the best of the new. Wonder how #2 will stack up?

P.S on a side note,  any word on Golden Sun on GC? Or was that just heresay?

TalkBack / Dave Foley to Host G4 AIAS Awards Special
« on: February 18, 2003, 01:39:08 PM »
Wow! So they managed to get a television deal! Its safe to say its gonna be a lot better than the crap TNN is going to pull later this year (When did TNN become gaming guru's anyway.) For those unfamiliar check the news archives.

Where I can get this G4 channel? I got  Direct TV but I haven't seen that on the listings. Am I missing anything?

TalkBack / Nintendo Pushes for Trade Sanctions
« on: February 15, 2003, 01:46:02 PM »
Looks like the Big N is stickin' it to all the free loaders out there. I'm from Venezeula so I know a thing a two about the seedy distribution of  games. You could get 22 games in one cartdrige for your GBC or GBA for 20-30 U.S dollars at the market(Yes an old school market.)You could also get Japanese versions of games if you wish(The average Venezeulan knows little or no english so it wouldn't matter what language the games in.).  As far as copying the Mini-DVD format on the GC, it has yet to be cracked. Even then, how could you copy it? hmm....

But  the question is: Does nintendo have bases in these countries? (Nintendo of Mexico, Nintendo of China, etc.) Or do they just ship their games to retailers and hope for the best?
