TalkBack / Nintendo Brings out the Stars for E3
« on: May 08, 2003, 03:07:02 PM »
Ouch! That's gotta hurt... but its all in good fun.

All I ask is PLEASE keep it in 'Good Taste.' Last thing we need is celebrities showing up and don't know what a gamecube is, or come after drinking a stank 40 of Labatts...

TalkBack / Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Comes to GameCube
« on: May 08, 2003, 03:00:11 PM »
Seems like old news. Budokai will appeal to the DBZ fans, it might be worth a rent.

I still say Dragon Ball is better than DBZ. it was more of a funny adventure story with lots of cute antics. But since that is a  long time ago and since Cartoon Networks butchers the content (with semi-good reasons, can't expose American Children to Son Goku's wee wee now can we?) A modern Dragonball game may be just wishful thinking.

TalkBack / Sega and Sammy Call it Quits
« on: May 08, 2003, 02:40:05 PM »
Damn I should've chimed in earlier!

I had a feeling that this Sammy business wasn't going to work. I just didn't think Sega would pull out at the 11th hour... I just ranted and raved about this a week ago, Namco would be the ideal choice in this situation. They both make similiar games, Namco is pretty stable despite flagging economies, and Sega will get the long-term finacial security they need.

But Sega itself is not calling the shots on this one. CSK (OR CKE some 3 letter acronym) handles their business decsions, so who knows, they might sell their souls to M$ for stability. They might knock at EA's door and grovel at their feet (we're sorry, save us please! Onegaishimasu!) Hell, if they walked into in Namco and said "We're sorry, you were right, I was wrong, lets get married errrm lets merge." It wouldn't shock me

Nintendo's been pretty silient on this one, but again as stated earilier, it looks like Sega just wants the money without the responsibility. They could scoop 'em up, but do they want to?

The last option has too outcomes: A) they stick it out alone, and some how manage B) declare bankruptcy if that's bad if it doesn't pan out. Looks like we got our selves a little soap opera to call our own...

TalkBack / Music Star
« on: May 08, 2003, 02:20:37 PM »
I gotta say this is an interesting combo. A cel-shaded 1st person shooter based on a french comic book with none other than Eve on the bill.

It will definately give this game a more American Flavor.

TalkBack / Entertainment Weekly Names Zelda All-Time Top Game
« on: May 06, 2003, 03:00:23 PM »
Let's put it like this. I wouldn't trust a stinkin' word Entertainment Weekly says. In a great Irony (Since they're supposed to know what's what in Entertainment and seeing as how video games ARE entertainment) EW's knows as much about games as I know about brain surgery. They're too damn busy covering gossip about celeberties and the like, so EW can take that list and [expletive] [bad word] [foul language not fit for the boards]

I'll admit GTA 3 and Vice belong on that list but near the top? Get off it, that's bunch of... EW just want to be some trendy little posers.... What's number one, DOAX? Deer Hunter? Its times like these where you want to commit acts of violence against these wannabe gamers....

I admit to not knowing about G4's status and credibilty (I have Direct TV) so I can't really say anything about them but why EW? Dollar signs? They could've chosen somebody else who has some clout.

TalkBack / New Player's Choice Titles for $29.99!
« on: May 06, 2003, 02:45:17 PM »
Call me El Cheapo but 29.99 MSRP? Should I be groveling at Nintendo's feet? "Oh thank you Nintendo for giving me a reduced price on games, yet games like Elder Scrolls 3 on XboX are 20 dollars..."

Granted I need to pick up Sonic Adventure 2 (again) I traded it for a DreamCast and Soul Calibur (long story, but  I couldn't resist) and I'm sure I can it for 20.

TalkBack / Infogrames/Atari Ships a Lot of Matrix
« on: May 06, 2003, 02:36:20 PM »
I must they are very confident about its sales. I gotta agree with Biohazard, they'll be lucky to sell 1 million in a short time (Zelda sold about 800k in a short time) but I guess you won't worry about it being back ordered.

TalkBack / EA Scores Superman Game Rights
« on: May 05, 2003, 06:55:29 PM »
I share Darc Reqiuem's sentiment. In a bizarre sort of way, the Man of Steel has been anything but "Super." Its as if logic has been thrown out the window buy making GOOD games based on Comic Book characters (Spider Man being the exception in recent history.) go EA!

TalkBack / No Sega and Namco Merger
« on: May 05, 2003, 06:50:38 PM »
"the move would make more sense for Sega, who also has stakes in non-videogame markets, as does Sammy."

Pardon my ignorance, but what else does Sega do besides Video Games (Arcade and Console, some PC)? Even so, Games are still Sega's bread an water (or Sushi and sake if you will) so what else can Sammy do for them? Unless they want to shift their focus....

A couple other dumb questions:

1) I'm gonna go on a limb and say Sammy doesn't have a strong presence in the U.S.A or Europe (Sega just recently opened a publishing department in Europe) So while it'd strengthen them in Japan (I guess that's most important since it is a Japanese company) what about overseas??

2)Aside from Guilty Gear, what else does Sammy do in the game department?

3)Wouldn't it make more sense to merge with a company that (unless it slipped my radar) is doing OK despite flagging economies? (Capcom was recently victim, as they are looking for someone to but them out.) That can offer longterm security not only at the home base but overseas?

Of course this is just my Western mind at work, and I admit to reading more Gamepro than I do Forbes or Nihon Keizai Shimbun.  Maybe I should start....

TalkBack / Mega Man Animated Series Premieres This Month
« on: May 01, 2003, 02:38:54 PM »
I can't believe its almost 9 years since MegaMan first aired in the states (It was on Sunday Mornings in my area) and looks like lightning may strike twice...

It'd nice if a studio did an Anime based on the 'X' series and maybe an OAV on the 'Zero' series. Until then, guess I'll have to keep my head in the clouds...

TalkBack / Square-Enix's Nintendo E3 Lineup
« on: May 01, 2003, 02:31:44 PM »
If there's one thing people need to remember (I think I already said this, if not I'll say it again...for the first time.) Just as how guns themselves don't kill people, Companies themselves don't make games.

Its the people WITH the guns who kill people and people IN companies that make games. So for those saying that Square isn't what it used to be, chances are it isn't but they are trying as hard as they can to maintain its image. Sword of Mana has members of staff who worked on each of the Mana series, so unless they were smoking crack, it should be as good as they say it is.

as far FFCC, we'll simply have to play to believe it. and FFT is concerned, GBA has yet to make a sucky strategy game, so it'd be unlikely that will the first one to bomb.

TalkBack / Nintendo Dominates March Sales
« on: April 30, 2003, 07:08:06 AM »
As mentioned above, Nintendo simply did some aggressive strategy in what is normally a slow time of the year. From the numbers, it appears they've reaped their rewards.

TalkBack / Ubi Soft Unveils Next Batman Game
« on: April 28, 2003, 04:06:28 PM »
it's all good man. Don't even trip about it.

Can Ubi soft do the impossible: Make a GOOD Batman game? C'mon don't insult our intelligence by giving the people substandards. Dark Tomorrow had ambition, but fell flat on its face. But hey, its the same company that brought us Splinter Cell, so who knows??

TalkBack / Sega Reveals E3 Line-up
« on: April 28, 2003, 03:58:52 PM »
If there's one thing you have to keep in mind about Sega, its like this.

Think of Sega as a prostitute. Yeah, she's good, she's REALLY good at what she does, but she only follows one thing: M-O-N-E-Y. Sega's out to get as much money from her 'clients' as she possibly can (Though for a company looking for a merger, they are certainly very productive, hmm?)

As far as Sonic going 3 ways, it stings a little, but let's see what its all about before we jump to conclusions.

Just remember: You can't make a ho a housewife.

Damn. They missed the good ol' motor city known as Detroit. It's aight though, the hip hop summit is in town anyway...

Now this is what you call mad marketing yo! Good game, good artists and hopefully a good tour.

TalkBack / Nintendo Announces Three Square Games
« on: April 24, 2003, 02:34:34 PM »
As mentioned earlier, its old news brought to new light. This is to show Square still got what it takes to make an epic adventure. *salivates until then* ewwww....

TalkBack / First Rogue Squadron III Details, Screens
« on: April 22, 2003, 02:51:38 PM »
Yay! Looks like we'll get some more star wars lovin'.

All I ask is to make it so you can select the difficulty. Rogue Leader was my 1st GC game but it I could never legally beat that 6th mission!!! Finally, I had to stoop low and....cheat.

I remember from an earlier post that fans wanted a fresh adventure (Star Wars Galaxies, or some material on the expanded universe from the novels pops into my mind.). From the looks of things, we're not getting it.  It looks nice, but do I HAVE to take down those AT-AT walkers again???

TalkBack / Game Stars and Edge Magazine Awards
« on: April 22, 2003, 02:32:45 PM »
Ahhhh.... Its been a while since I've been on the boards.

Assuming Game Stars and EDGE magazine have considerable clout in the UK, it seems UK loves Nintendo. First DICE, then GDC, now this.

Interesting is the fact they have standings as opposed to nominations and winners....

The question is, how does the rest of Europe see the big N?

TalkBack / Xbox Price Cuts Looming; Nintendo Unfazed
« on: April 11, 2003, 05:48:01 PM »
hmm... The battle rages on.

The article didn't specifically say any price cuts here in the U.S.A. If you read the article, the XboX price is about 200 US dollars in the United Kingdom, and nearly 215 US dollars for the rest of Europe. Foreign technology is usually expensive overseas; if you go to Dell.com's European sites (and assuming you can read some of the languages) their prices are more expenisive than in the US, even though they offer roughly the same goods.

My analyisis shows Microsoft is trying to get the leg up in a terrority that is up for grabs; notice there's no mention of a price drop in Japan [I'm assuming lack of demand over there]. And as mentioned earlier, no need for Nintendo to tremble in fear.  The console may be cheaper, but what's more important are the games.

TalkBack / Lieberman Talks Videogame Violence... Again
« on: April 10, 2003, 02:22:20 PM »

Last I checked, 1st amendment rights have not been suspended. I don't see him talking about Conflictesert Storm, or Medal of Honor. If its a game about shooting America's enemies,  I'll bet no politican is going to gripe.  At least he didn't mention Nintendo, or else that'll be one stigma you can't shake.

Unless he can prove the ESRB is ineffective, he needs some other issue to tackle. Doesn't he have a war to protest? Oh that's right, its almost over....

TalkBack / Nintendo Lowers Royalty Fees
« on: April 10, 2003, 02:07:35 PM »
hmmm...maybe that's why we haven't seen some titles that go elsewhere. Its a good start, and like Ian said, its these little things that keep them down, but now it seems they might make some amends.

LMAO!

C'mon, what about Mario? Link? Hell, even Kirby or Starfox I know its comparing apples to oranges, but it'd be cool they could some of that Silver Screen...

TalkBack / Metroid Prime 2 Poll at Nintendo.com
« on: April 09, 2003, 04:40:25 PM »
Looks like we can go for days on this topic. Basically it boils down to this

A) "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Just tweak whatever shortcomings (were there any shortcomings in Prime? Escaped my radar...) or just give people more, plus some nice Nintendo Innovation.

B) "Sometimes a [bounty hunter] has to be moving on..."
Instead of a sprinkle of innovation,   add a really healthy helping of ambition Go crazy with it. Pilot Samus's ship. Make it more RPGish. How about [gasp] cel shading? Those were highly exaggerated examples, so don't take them seriously(I doubt it'd be Metroid by then). You get the picture.

On a slightly unrelated note, would you mind if Samus got a voice actress?  If so, who'd fit the bill? If opposed, why so? I'm neutral, but thinking after Samus's scream, it makes you wonder....

"CUZ I'M A LIAAARRR!"....

Interesting how they getting voice actors from the strangest of places.  Def Jam Vendetta have their rappers voices in their game, wonder who else will jump on the band wagon?
