Little Mac is undoubtedly a major contender for the new Smash Bros. games.
Playable Character Dream
Who: Little Mac
Little Mac, a 17-year- old boxer from the Bronx, stands at 5’7” and 107 lbs. He hopes to one day become the World Video Boxing Association (WVBA) Champion. Due to his small size, many consider Little Mac the ultimate underdog. Luckily, Mac has an ace up his sleeve with former world champion Doc Louis as his coach.
Why He Deserves a Spot:
Little Mac is the protagonist of Nintendo’s popular Punch-Out!! series. While the first three Punch-Out!! Games (two arcade games and a Game & Watch) didn’t feature Little Mac, he has been the main character ever since the NES version of Punch-Out!!.
Little Mac has been an iconic Nintendo character for decades. Though Mac was never playable in a Super Smash Bros. game, he has been featured in the series. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Little Mac made an appearance as a collectible trophy and as a useable Assist Trophy, where he used his boxing prowess to help clear the screen.

Giga Mac
Little Mac has two qualities that would translate well in the Smash Bros. universe. The first is a distinctive special move, the Star Punch uppercut. The second is Giga Mac, a special form Mac can transform into, first seen in Punch-Out!! on the Wii. Giga Mac would be a perfect Final Smash for the character (if the Smash Ball feature returns).
Overall, Punch-Out!! is a popular Nintendo franchise that deserves a playable character in the Smash Bros. series. No one is more suitable for the role than Little Mac.
First Appearance: Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! (NES) (1987)
Latest Appearance: Doc Louis’s Punch-Out!! (Wii) (2009)

Bonus Dream: Assist Trophy
Who: Stumpy
Stumpy is the nearly forgotten Camp Hyule mascot. He is a horse, or “how” (a mix between horse and cow), with short, stumpy legs. Stumpy isn’t capable of much, but defied all odds to become the mascot of Nintendo’s now-defunct online summer camps.
Why He Deserves to be an Assist Trophy:
Stumpy is a Nintendo character that hasn’t appeared in any game, unless you count online Flash games used during Nintendo’s Camp Hyrule events. However, he still holds a special place in my heart.
Stumpy was originally just a short, generic “horse” that appeared in the background of some atmospheric art to help set the mood for a location (chat room) during a Camp Hyrule event. Eventually, some of the campers named this horse Stumpy and the little guy slowly took off, catching the eyes of campers and camp counselors alike. It wasn’t long before he became the mascot of the entire event.
It’s because of his obscurity that I want to see the little guy make a comeback. He isn’t a big enough star to be a playable character, but Stumpy is a small piece of Nintendo history many fans don’t know about. It’s time this horse appeared in a Nintendo title, even if he only grazes on the stages, as useful as a Goldeen.
