by Matthew Blundon - June 22, 2010, 3:00 pm EDT

With so many great Nintendo DS games on the way, we decided to narrow down the very best titles coming to the platform in the next twelve months.

Professor Layton and the Unwound Future

Publisher: Nintendo

Developer: Level-5

Genre: Puzzle Adventure

Release Date: September 20, 2010

When the Professor Layton series first hit North American shores in February 2008, the game was met with some success. Over a year later though, in early 2009, is when the Layton franchise really started to explode. Thanks to a new marketing push from Nintendo, sales of the first Layton game skyrocketed and the franchise has pulling in strong numbers ever since.

The third game in the Layton trilogy, titled Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, unfolds when Layton and his apprentice, Luke, receive a strange letter from a future Luke. The message states that London's future is in trouble, and it's up to Professor Layton to set things right.

With more than 165 new puzzles, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future promises to be one of Layton's best adventures yet. The addition of a new "superhint" option is available to help more players reach the end of the game, while hint coins are still scattered about everywhere.

Past Professor Layton games have had the ability to download new weekly puzzles for a period of time, and Professor Layton and the Unwound Future is no exception. With so many puzzles packed into one game, it would be hard to find anything better than Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. Players can start their adventures on September 20. Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs

Publisher: Nintendo

Developer: Creatures Inc.

Genre: Action Adventure

Release Date: Fall 2010

The Pokémon Ranger franchise is no stranger to the Nintendo DS, with the first two installments in the series already appearing on the Nintendo DS. Come this fall though, the third installment will be on store shelves, and gamers can expect to go on yet another action-packed adventure.

Set in the Oblivia region, the game revolves around the story of a criminal organization known as the Pokémon Pinchers, who have been disrupting the peace by chasing and catching Pokémon. As a Pokémon Ranger, it’s your duty to set things right with your partner Pokémon, Ukulele Pichu.

As in previous Pokémon Ranger games, players will use the Capture Styler to befriend Pokémon. Special Ranger signs are also present this time around, which allow players to summon legendary Pokémon such as Raikou, Entei, and Suicune.

Fans of the Pokémon Ranger series should be ecstatic about the new additions in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs. Come this fall, gamers will be able to pack up their things and move into the Oblivia region and see what it is like to be a Pokémon Ranger.
