Super Monkey Ball Guide!

The Beginner Levels

Tricks, tips and challenges for Beginner mode.

Beginner 01

Push forward and hold. It's pretty straightforward. Seriously, the beginner levels are basically training. There are maybe three of them that you may get stuck on during your first run through, but by the time you go looking for a guide, I hope you're well past these levels. If not... well hey! We all have to start somewhere right?

Challenge: Kill yourself by jumping over the side of the level (this is a bit difficult).

Beginner 02

This level teaches you how to move in a direction other than straight. Good luck... If you want to take the warp goal, get in front of the diamond-shaped hole and move towards the ramp. Slow down as you reach the top of the stone ramp and fall straight down to the platform.

Challenge: Get into the warp goal in three seconds or less.

Beginner 03

This is a curvy level with "training wheels". If you unintentionally die on this level, something is wrong.

Challenge: Beat the level in two seconds or less.

Beginner 04

The rotating platform level. Move onto the platform as soon as you're comfortable. Approach the end and wait for it to line up with the goal before moving. Just remember that the closer you are to the point of rotation, the lower the centrifugal force will be.

Challenge: Beat the level in five seconds or less.

Beginner 05

With sixty seconds, I don't see anyone could not get all fifty bananas. However, later versions of this bonus stage will give you only thirty. To make sure you get them all, pick a point on the outer square of bananas and trace that square before moving onto the inner square. It's so obvious, but everyone just plows right through the bananas the first few times.

Beginner 06

The ramp training level. Just remember to slow down as you reach the bottom of each ramp.

Challenge: Beat the level in five seconds or less. You should only touch the starting platform and third and final ramps on your way to the goal. Yes I'm insane.

Beginner 07

The upward slope level. Just try and get your Monkey perpendicular to the ramp before moving up it and you should be fine. If you're at a slight angle, you'll get thrown off to the side (which is the cause of many beginner deaths when they go for the banana bunch).

Beginner 08

This level rarely fails to dispatch your Monkey the first time you see it. There isn't any real trick to this, just use the well-programmed, realistic physics of the game to keep your Monkey on the platforms. When the group closes together, you can run from the first to the very last platform; just remember to put the brakes on before you run off the other side.

Challenge: Get all the bananas and get to the goal in thirty-five seconds or less.

Beginner 09

This level teaches you to go fast but not too fast. Line your Monkey up with the arrow at the top of the ramp and give him a little boost of speed (push forward) as you go down the ramp. Just remember to pull back as soon as you clear the gap or you'll hit the wall with too much force and bounce into the hole.

Challenge: If you beat this one in five seconds, you're 0.02 seconds faster than I am.

Beginner 10

Beginner 10: the first obstacle course. Get used to this, because there are a few more like it. The obstacles get progressively more difficult as you go along. Obstacle 1: Just hold up before the level starts and you will travel forward straight as an arrow. Even if it were a tightrope wire a baby could cross it with this method. Obstacle 2: This is the same as the first, but with no guardrails. It's cake with practice. No tricks here. Obstacle 3: This is just like the first two, but you have the added complication of little steps that tend to increase your speed as you fall down. Don't roll off the opposite edge. Cross the short, thin bridges. Obstacle 4: Line up as straight as possible and then move forward as quickly as possible. Make small adjustments as you go up to keep from rolling off the edges. Finally, you have the dreaded curvy path. This only takes practice and a steady hand. Just keep burning up those continues until you get it; you're almost there.

Challenge: Try to beat the level in twenty seconds or less (you'll have to skip the first two obstacles by jumping to the right at the start of the level).

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations on beating Beginner mode! I hope you didn't access this part of the guide for anything other than the challenges, but everyone has to start somewhere. Now onto the more interesting levels. If you want to try unlocking the Extra stages, I suggest that you beat Advanced mode first.
