Billy takes a shot at the title for Mario Kart 64, checked out a hell of a lot of old school, and got to meet some legends! Game on!
This weekend, the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota played host to the Twin
Galaxies Video Game Festival. Seeing is the mall is about 20 minutes away from my apartment, I decided to stop by and see what all the hubbub was about. Plus, during the festival was the Console Video Game World Championships where there would be tournaments in Mario Kart 64 and Super Smash Bros. How could I turn that down the chance to play games & PGC represent in the tourney? I mean, I was supposed to clean my apartment that day, and Louie’s “box o’ fun” was a little ripe. But…well…guess what won that contest? Where are my car keys?

What is Twin Galaxies? Twenty years ago, a man by the name of Walter Day decided to take an excursion to visit as many arcades that he could to record all of the machines high scores. Walter visited 15 different states in 4 months. Following the ultimate arcade road trip, in 1982, Walter opened an arcade in Ottumwa, Iowa…named, you guessed it….Twin Galaxies. Walter’s growing list of high scores was then available to the public as the Twin Galaxies National Scoreboard. From then things grew for Walter, until now, where Walter is recognized as the World’s only electronic games referee. Twenty years later Twin Galaxies creates the contests for PC, Pinball, Arcade, and home games.
