Nintendo World Report highlights the best of the year that was.
Twilight Princess is going to win GameCube Game of the Year. Duh. However, we wanted to recognize the second-best game of 2006, not only for being the best of the rest, but also for simply existing at all. Here's the one that Link will see closest behind him when he peeks over his shoulder.
Before Zelda came to town, the biggest game of the year was Baten Kaitos Origins. The restrictive card-based battle system in the first game was loosened up considerably to make the gameplay more accessible and less frustrating. The pretty graphics and solid soundtrack made for a complete package that GameCube die-hards were grateful to have in the waning months of the system's life. With no RPGs currently available on the Wii, GameCube owners that have already upgraded may want to consider picking up BKO to satisfy that craving for role-playing.
Runner-up: Chibi-Robo
The cute little robot that does all the household chores made for a very nice addition to the GameCube library. It was something very different; maybe a little too different, since the game didn't sell too well. (Perhaps that was due more to the system's decline than the game itself). Despite that, we think it was the second-best non-Zelda GameCube available in '06, so maybe you should try it out!
