Ubi Soft is finally bringing over their acclaimed series of Tom Clancy games to the GameCube. First on the list is probably Ghost Recon. A port of the recently released award-winning PC first-person shooter, Ghost Recon is another tactical squad-based shooter in the series. In this installment, you lead a squad of the U.S. Army’s Special Force’s Green Beret unit.

The original PC version featured more diverse locales than the original games in the series, focusing more on open, outdoor environments. The graphics for the game were spectacular with lush trees and tons of detail throughout the game, right down to the uniforms. As usual for a Red Storm Entertainment game, a lot of attention was placed on the sound effects. An improved interface, streamlining the long-winded strategic portions of earlier installments in the series was also available. All of these features should be expected for the Ubi Soft GameCube port.

Ghost Recon features fifteen single-player missions and twelve specialists that can be unlocked and added to your team. Multiplayer options were plentiful in the PC internet-playable version. Whether or not the GameCube port will feature internet play remains to be seen, but Ubi Soft is promising a multiplayer mode that will allow up to six players in cooperative mode and sixteen in adversarial mode. The numbers of course would tend to show that they are indeed planning to include internet play.

As of now, Ubi Soft has not committed on a release date for Ghost Recon for the Nintendo GameCube, but have only said that it will be released after the Xbox version which is to be released in Q4 2002. Expect the game early in 2003.
