Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits

Discuss in talkback!

After a conference call with developers Vicarious Visions, more about the latest and greatest Guitar Hero On Tour game is revealed.

The final game in Vicarious Visions' portable Guitar Hero trilogy, Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits, has a narrower focus than their previous two DS outings. As the subtitle suggests, Modern Hits' set list features songs from the past five to seven years. In addition to the 28 new songs, the game also features some additions and changes.

In a conference call with Vicarious Visions earlier today, I got to listen to David Nathanielsz, Executive Producer; Jesse Booth, Producer; Mike Chrzanowski, Lead Designer; Muhammad Ahmed, Lead Designer; Eric Feurstein, Lead Artist; and Justin Joyner, Lead Audio Designer talk about their upcoming game.

The new progression system is the biggest draw, as it breaks away from the standard "play four songs at a venue, then an encore" style that was prevalent in the previous two On Tour games. Instead, Modern Hits features a fan request system where players set out to accumulate fans by performing special challenges, such as getting a 100 note streak in a song. In the conference call, Vicarious Visions championed this new non-linear structure because it is more flexible and has more of a natural progression.

While players still have to unlock songs in Career Mode, in the Quick Play and Multiplayer Modes, every song is unlocked out of the box. According to Vicarious Visions, some players don't understand the concept of unlocking, thus the decision have all songs unlocked in specified modes out of the box.

The multiplayer will remain the same, but thanks to the song sharing feature that is also in the prior games, players can now choose from over 75 songs when they rock out with their friends.

Modern Hits also features graphical improvements over Decades, which featured an improvement over the original. According to Vicarious Visions, Modern Hits is the best looking DS Guitar Hero game yet.
