Disaster: Day of Crisis

Finally! Here are some brief details about Nintendo's monolithic Wii game.

Details have always been sketchy on Monolith Soft's new Wii title, Disaster: Day of Crisis. Originally scheduled to be released in 2007, the game was delayed into 2008. With the impending Japanese release, a few new details have been revealed about the Nintendo-published "survival action" game, courtesy Famitsu Magazine.

In Disaster: Day of Crisis you play as Ray, who a year ago lost his friend and co-worker, Steve. The story centers on Ray's attempts to rescue Steve's sister, Lisa, from kidnappers. His efforts are challenged by a series of natural disasters such as volcanoes, tsunamis, and hurricanes. On top of that, Ray has to foil a terrorist plot to set of a nuclear bomb.

Gameplay will work by moving around with the analog stick on the Nunchuk. The Wii Remote pointer aims whatever weapon or item Ray has equipped, which can be used with the B Trigger. Ray can also stop to help the wounded. One level shows Ray trying to escape a tsunami in a car, which is controlled by the player holding the Wii Remote in a horizontal position.

Disaster: Day of Crisis is slated for a July release in Japan. It is currently listed as 2008 in the US and Europe.

These new details make the game sound more linear than sandbox.

That would be pretty cool if Nintendo did attempt a Sandbox game...  Or one of their second parties did.

Then again that might feel to American, I copied you attitude.

I don't trust a Japanese RPG developer with a sandbox game. This does sound interesting, and one of the best things about it is that it's something Nintendo would never do themselves, and because of that makes Monolith Soft a great investment.

DAaaMan64April 28, 2008

I just wanna see some of the damn game already.

EnnerApril 28, 2008

Hmm, sandbox in a disaster area. I guess that is a neat idea. When I thought about the game, I was expecting straight mission levels.

Also, yay for a release date. And to think I was fearing that this game died. I hope there isn't too much gunplay; there's enough of that out there and not enough of saving lives.

I hope they still have the "fight a bear" minigame.

Animal Crossing?

Seems like the control scheme is very much like Resident Evil 4 ... I like it. I'm actually excited for this one, it's about time Nintendo got a new IP out there.

I will buy it because this is one game I have been waiting for. I just wish we could get some video clips or something sooner or latter.

What is this? What are they trying to do? This hurts to think about.

I'm also considering Alone in the Dark.  At least it looks like Wii gets a couple action-adventure titles this year.
