Please... Link would ride a Dragon.  He battle Reggie for his Sea Monster that he used to bring the Wii to Europe.  It be one of his past adventures.  Sometimes I wish Link was more like Hellboy.  I really enjoy that they have history in that series.

AVMay 29, 2011

riding a dragon would be epic.

So next newscast will be recorded Tuesday June 7th afternoon, or Wednesday June 8th?

The ending just goes on and on....I do miss Zach I hope he got to listen to this and can be at least skypped into the conversation during E3

Project Cafe prediction: Nintendo's New Miracle WiFi Connection + Rockstar Games = Red Dead MMO

CericMay 29, 2011

The bug stuff should have been editted out.
It ruins a good Newscast.  I enjoy the rest of it.

I think the problem is that I find that kind of stuff funny when inserted into a podcast.

Good podcasts, gents, although I thought it was funny that nobody could bring themselves to press Stop. I think you're all spot-on with your predictions, although I do NOT think they'll say two words about Pikmin (sorry, Andy) and we'll find out that Animal Crossing is just City Folk in 3D. Here are my own (cynical) predictions:

1) Reggie will come out and somehow turn the 3DS' lowball launch into something celebritory. "We sold a million units in Syria!" he'll say. He'll tell everyone watching here and at home to turn on their 3DS and download the latest update, which will bring the DSiWare shop to the 3DS. Reggie will not give a hard launch date for 3DSWare, though, only something like "be ready this fall." He'll talk about a lot of games, unfortunately a lot of games we already know about (Zelda, Star Fox, MGS3). He'll talk about Mario 3D and how it should be out for the holidays. Mario Kart will be out by late summer, maybe the fall. That's the system seller. It will support unprecedented SpotPass functionality. But the big title? Smash Bros.

2) On 3DSWare, we won't get much an idea of what it will be. However, I am convinced that Nintendo will start publishing actual high-priority titles for it (Mario vs. DK doesn't count, Neal). They need to get top-tier franchises on 3DSWare (or any downloadable platform) if they want to be taken seriously on the downloadable frontier. We need an original Mario game, maybe Mario Kart...I think something like Endless Ocean or a PokePark game would work well.

3) They'll tout the success of the Wii but they'll make it clear this is the last "big bang" year for Wii. Dragon Quest X will be a big reveal. They'll talk about Wii Play Plus (or whatever it's called) but nobody will give a fuck. I doubt Nintendo does either. Like Andy said, they just want that brand to stay alive. But the big game at the show?

4) Zelda. We'll actually learn about Zelda, and maybe its troubled history. We may actually see something completely different (aethetically) than we saw last year. After all, that's the last time anybody saw it. I don't think they'll have Miyamoto or anyone else come out and demo the show in front of a thousand people, but they MAY have some other random developer come out and demo an incredibly small portion of the game. Maybe in a box. They want it to be controlled, they want to show it works.

5) I think the DS/i/Lite/XL is dead in the water, but Nintendo may launch a new bundle, something like the Wii now, with a system, big-ticket game, and maybe some "premium" accessories. The DS needs a sendoff, and it hasn't gotten one yet. I doubt we'll see any new games for the DS this year aside from 3rd party licensed games that nobody wants. Despite that, Reggie can turn that into a plus: "developers are still flocking to the DS." Yeah, sort of.

6) Project Cafe! Iwata will whip that sucker out of his inside coat pocket. It will be small and compact. I'm with Andy that it'll be black, but I wouldn't be surprised if it launched (eventually) in multiple colors. It will be backwards compatible with all Wii games and Wii accessories. However, Cafe games themselves will not support Wii accessories. We won't get a lot of details on the Cafe software, or even its launch window. I can see them bringing back F-Zero and maybe a real Star Fox game. I think they're big news will be that developers who had formally stayed away from Wii will be making the games YOU love on Cafe, including Modern Warfare 3. Cafe will be a viable multiplatform system, relatively easy to develop for, and lacking in the gimmicks that drove people away from the Wii.

7) It will not have a screen in the controller. I guarantee none of the "confirmed rumors" or speculation regarding the technology or the hardware are true. I will bet you that Nintendo adopts a more Xbox Live style online system ('bout time) but makes it more boneheaded. They still haven't figured this online thing out, and it might take some time. I am hopeful, however, that they build the Cafe system around the concept of firmware updates.

I like a little bit but, you could have probably had where he mentions their there and where he was distracted by them.

I'm really hoping for an Indigo Version.  That is my Nintendo color of choice.  I have every system that came in that color in that color.  I would by a DS today if it came in that color (Even though I don't want/need another DS) just to round out the collection.  I will admit that Black, Silver, or White would fit better with any entertainment system.  Though I don't think the system itself will be as small as the Wii.  I can see the controller coming out of Iwata pocket but not the system.

I think that its a no-brainer the online will be more XBox Livish.

I'm going to end with that I've written off Zelda: Forev.. Skyward Swords.

I guess I will keep that in mind next time Andy sees bugs on his floor.

No way, leave that stuff in. If I want boring people sitting around talking about the news I'll turn on my tv.

You guarantee it?  I'm sorry, but I find this to be a somewhat crazy statement.  These reports come from developers who have early dev kits on hand.  They've been confirmed across multiple developers and from multiple different news outlets.  The screen/controller bit in particular has cropped up in almost every leaked report. Furthermore this industry has a wide history of leaks of this sort turning out to be true.  In order you to be correct one of two statements would have to be true:

1) Developers are lying to reporters.  I might agree with this if we were getting all the information from a single source, but most of the major outlets have confirmed that they have more than one developer feeding them the information.

2) Nintendo has lied to developers and gone so far to support this lie as to build the leaked features into the early dev kits.  I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to realize how problematic this would be for Nintendo.  Third parties have likely started early development on games with the assumption that said features will be in the final build.  Keep in mind, these rumors are also based on conversations these developers have had with Nintendo regarding the future of the console.  If Nintendo has been lying to them there would be a lot of angry developers and publishers out there.

So, yeah, I'm pretty confident the system will have a screen in the controller.  That said, I WILL guarantee that Nintendo has held things back from developers that it will reveal at E3 and that haven't yet been leaked because of this.

For the DS, I think we'll see Professor Layton and the Last Specter or whatever it's going to be called from Level-5.  I've been hoping that we wouldn't skip this one because of the unlockable RPG bonus content.  Is Level-5 going to be publishing this on their own?  Could be interesting.

Once, I had also hoped against hope that we'd hear more about Ni no Kuni when Level-5 announced it's plans to open and office in the US, but now I'm doubting that the game will come over here.

For that matter, does anything we'll hear more about the Layton vs. Phoenix Wright game?  It's been a while since that trailer appeared?
