Cave Story for WiiWare gets DLC Wii

After a month of silence on the project, developer Nicalis has updated their development blog with information for the upcoming WiiWare title.

The acclaimed independent game Cave Story is in fact still coming to WiiWare later this year. The game may have missed a Christmas release date, but Nicalis has confirmed that "Cave Story for Wii hasn't been killed" and that they are taking the extra time to "make sure everything is perfect."

Nyko Announces Custom Wii Remote, New Accessories

The new product lineup includes the Charging Station EX, Kama Charge Kit, and a competitor to Nintendo's own Wii Remote, the Wand.

Yesterday, Nyko officially debuted their new Wii devices at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Along with previously announced peripherals such as the Charge Station Quad and the Metal Pedal, The Wand, Charging Station EX, and The Kama Charge Kit were on display for the first time ever.

Ghostbusters Video Game Gets June Release Wii

UPDATE: Atari released a press release today that confirms the Wii and DS version of Ghostbusters: The Video Game for June 16 in North America and June 19 worldwide.

According to MCVUK, Atari has confirmed that Ghostbusters: The Video Game will release on June 19. Meanwhile, the press release for the Ghostbusters 25th anniversary DVD states that Ghostbusters: The Video Game will coincide with the DVD's availability and release "worldwide the week of June 16, 2009." Presumably this news includes the Wii and DS versions of the game, but no specific platforms were named.

High Voltage Betting That 'a Hardcore Market Exists' on Wii Wii

CEO and Lead Designer believe that ports, and publishers who had "written off" the Wii, are to blame for the lackluster performance of "hardcore" games on Nintendo's console.

MTV wasted no time in challenging High Voltage Software CEO Kerry Ganofsky and Lead Designer Rob Nicholls to prove why they should expect good things from their upcoming Wii first-person shooter The Conduit.

"This is a gamer's game, and we make no excuses for it," answered Ganofsky, "With incredible graphics, a captivating story, and completely customizable controls we are providing a complete package of gaming entertainment."

When the hackers composing Team Twiizers worked to bypass Nintendo's security measures on the Wii, they discovered several undocumented features of the Wii hardware.

South Korean developer Barunson Creative's Iron Master: Legendary Blacksmith is also intended for release in other markets.

After reports that they were making a "DS fantasy adventure for the world," South Korean developer Barunson Creative, formerly Studio 9, is hoping that their upcoming game, Iron Master: Legendary Blacksmith, will see an international release.

Eduardo the Samurai Toaster Goes from Indie to WiiWare Wii

The game has gone through several PC versions since 2005, but the "huge break" for the small development team was becoming an officially licensed WiiWare developer.

Developers like 2D Boy, creators of World of Goo, have demonstrated that small independent studios can accomplish amazing things on WiiWare. The latest independent team trying their hand at WiWare development is Semnat Studios, who on Monday announced their 2D shooter: Eduardo the Samurai Toaster.

Seacroft Hospital in Leeds England recently garnered attention for utilizing the Wii in conjunction with Wii Fit as a means of rehabilitation and physical therapy.

Virtual Console Preview Reveals Smash Bros. for Japan

Almost exactly 10 years after its initial release, the popular Nintendo 64 game will become available on the Wii's download service.

Japanese Virtual Console buyers enjoy an advantage over their counterparts elsewhere: official release previews that can reveal titles up to a month in advance. The latest such preview has revealed that Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64, the predecessor to last year's Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii, will soon become available for download.

2009 starts off with a bit of a whimper as this week's Virtual Console and WiiWare update features only two titles.
