Nintendo Tops List of Top 50 Developers

In Game Developer magazine's research on sales and reputation, Nintendo is number one.

The March 2008 issue of Game Developer magazine will detail the top 20 developers of 2007, and Nintendo will be the very first one on the list. The ranking comes from a study that Think Services' Game Developer magazine and Game Developer Research division put together, combining both sales data and a company's reputation to rank the top developers of last year.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Wii hardware top the charts yet again.

Nothing too surprising this week, as Super Smash Bros Brawl remains at the top position. The only new entry this week is Winning Eleven Play Maker 2008 on the Wii, which uses a new and unique control scheme. If Konami’s new control method catches on, maybe the Wii will see more sports games have better Wii controls in the future.

Our resident retail mole and NWR Forums regular UncleBob has informed us that his Walmart store has already received shipments of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Nintendo's all-star fighter for Wii. This delivery, and presumably many other deliveries in the Walmart chain of stores, comes eleven days ahead of the official March 9 North American release date of the game.

Wii Menu Update 3.2 Now Available

Games Convention Moves to Cologne

The Leipzig Games Convention, held annually since August 2002, will be moving to Cologne in 2009 and rebranded GAMESCom.

The German Federal Association for Entertainment Software (BUI), creators of the Games Convention, have announced there is to be no further support for GC Leipzig from 2009, with the creation of a new consumer show based in Cologne in the East of Germany as replacement. This would allow the show to further expand, as it has been over the years to become the largest consumer show in the world.
