The once-elite publisher is losing money, losing franchises, and is almost about to lose everything else.
Acclaim has released its financial report for its fiscal year ending on March 31st, and the numbers aren't good: In the past year, the company has lost $56.4 million. (Then again, they lost $84.4 million the year before, so it's not that bad...) These massive losses don't bode well for the credit line, and if Acclaim doesn't find a new source of money to help counterbalance these debts, they'll have to file for bankruptcy.

Nintendo's online summer camp is back for more fun! This will be the 10th year Nintendo has done Camp Hyrule. The idea is simple. Nintendo has created a virtual summer camp where fans can hang out and chat with each other. There are also all sorts of contests and games to play. This year's camp will start on August 16th. There is currently no indication of its ending date. In the past camp has run for a week.

The group is calling Nintendo a "big bully," and asking that the patent be re-examined.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation is launching what it calls the Patent Busting Project, a campaign to recall patents awarded to large companies that are detrimental to the well-being of public domain. One of the companies listed in their "Top Ten" is Nintendo. They recently patented Game Boy software emulation, amid some controversy and some legal action on the part of some companies.

Nintendo have announced today that Nintendo of Europe’s Managing Director David Gosen will step down at the end of August. Maybe Iwata knows what he's talking about.
According to a story at Nikkei Net, conveniently translated by the fine folks at Video-fenky, the gaming market in Japan is getting smaller. Console sales have dropped off dramatically as most of the people who want current systems have already bought them, and game sales are down too. The overall market is down for the third year in a row, with sales declining 11% in just the last year.
