Wii U releases in Europe? Let it gooooooooo.
Most of the attention is focused on the 3DS this week in the downloads. North America gets the third straight week (and 4th of 5 weeks) of retail releases with Disney Magical World 2, which is pushing Frozen so hard you'd think it had a Superman Punch. Three other titles rock the eShop as well, as... Read more...

Going to have to wait a couple of hours to add that card for the Monster Hunter Generations sale.
A very unusual Nintendo Network maintenance is coming early next week.
The maintenance is scheduled to occur from 10 am - 3 pm Eastern (7 am - noon Pacific) and the only network service that will be down is "Using Nintendo eShop Cards".
The root cause of the maintenance has not been announced, nor how this will affect the activation of cards during that time.

Runbow Deluxe is still on schedule
A couple of anticipated indie titles have been delayed into next year.
The New 3DS version of Runbow was announced as a Q1 release today in a post on 13AM Games's Tumblr page, and the local multiplayer options will not be present in the final version. 13AM cited the desire to make sure the online options were rock solid for the port. The Wii U version will still get the free Shantae DLC and a retail release on October 25 in North America.

This is one week of releases that's hardly paper-thin.
As one would expect, the biggest release of the week for most major territories (read: everything but Japan) is Paper Mario: Color Splash. Matt loved the game's humor, while I'm still finding my way through thanks to The Great Preload Mess-Up Of 2016 running it two weeks ahead of schedule for me.... Read more...

"We tried to get him to fix it, but he just kept staring at us."
Nintendo is changing the design of the 2DS for this holiday season, and apparently it's Luigi's fault.
A press statement from the company announced that beginning in November, the 2DS models for North America would be colored (red or blue) on the front and black on the back, as opposed to the opposite which was in place before. The price (US$79.99) and included Mario Kart 7 will remain.

And you'll get to experience part of it in a couple of weeks
Starter evolutions, training options and the return of features were spotlighted in the latest Pokémon Sun and Moon trailer released earlier today.
The starter evolutions are named Dartrix (Rowlet), Torracat (Litten) and Brionne (Popplio). No type or ability changes were noted in these forms, and they keep the traditional starter abilities.

Surprisingly not announced for the Famicom's anniversary
Japan will not be left out of the classic small hardware party this fall, as a Nintendo Classic Mini Famicom has been announced.
Similar to the Classic Mini NES announced this summer, the Famicom unit will release in Japan on November 10 for 5980 yen. The base unit will come with two controllers that dock into the system and much like the Famicom, are hard-wired. An AC adapter will not be included in the mini Famicom box.

The Nindies @ Home game is sixth on the priority list. What the heck?
September started with a huge burst of games (aided by the Nintendo Direct) and it's going out with some quality. Alex is quite happy with Yo-kai Watch 2, while I dug River City: Tokyo Rumble (and the game is being restocked if you need a physical copy). Daan, meanwhile, hit paydirt with the first good Sonic Boom game. Ever. That'd be enough for a busy week on its own, just with 3DS retail stuff.

Probably the closest we'll get to a Shovel Knight 64 for a while.
Playtonic Games has revealed many of the characters in Yooka-Laylee, including one major crossover.
A trailer released to coincide with the end of the EGX game festival in England announced that Shovel Knight will make an appearance in the game, among the gaggle of googly eyes.
Yooka-Laylee is still scheduled to release on Wii U before the end of March 2017.

An oddity in nearly 2 years of game preloads.
Paper Mario Color Splash releases at retail on October 7, but digital preloaders may have the full game now.
First found by @Electivirus on Twitter, the 8GB preload appears to include the unlock key that is normally only made available at midnight Eastern time on the day of release.

Demons, disemboweling and Donkey Kong - this week's update is full of that Vitamin D.
This week's offering on the eShops are definitely not for the faint of heart, nor for our younger viewers. In terms of cost and size, the big one this week is Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse - Neal's review has been top of mind for most of the week as I try to manage a whole boatload of RPGs. The... Maybe they'll leave "certain factors" out of it this time.

A big name from the days of the Mega Drive is coming back home.
