Five finalists have been chosen to perform their wacky stunts for a GameCube. What will each of them be doing? There's only one way to find out...
How does a NINTENDO GAMECUBE, a Game Boy Advance, a video game software package, and $5,000 in cash sound to you? Well, it sounded great to a lot of other people as well. Nintendo asked people what they would do for a GameCube and many people responded. Out of the plethora of crazy stunts that were sent in, five people have been selected to compete for the grand prize.

Luigi’s Mansion contains lots of ghosts and a kidnapped sibling. It also seems to contain a demo of an upcoming game?! Details inside.
Update: As it turns out, our speculation was correct! The lucky folks at IGN Cube were sent American GameCube's and Software today, including a copy of Luigi's Mansion. The demo is a two minute movie of the Pikmin in action. You can go to IGN and view the movie right here.

Yessiree! You can now save the Pikmin...in Japan. PGC was there! Pictures and a video!
Our Japanese correspondant Paul Crosby sent us pictures of a Laox store that began selling Pikmin yesterday morning....

In unexpected news today, two California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers from the late 20th Century ride to the GameCube and place it under arrest.
The latest issue of Nintendo Power has revealed a startling new licensed game for GameCube… none other than CHiPS! For those not in the know, CHiPs is a popular show that ran from 1977 until 1983 chronicling the adventures of two motorcycle police officers in California. The show starred Erik Estrada as Officer Francis Llewellyn 'Ponch' Poncherello and Larry Wilcox as Officer Jon Baker.

Yesterday, at the Interactive Entertainment awards in London, a couple of Nintendo games picked up awards.
This week was BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) week in the UK. Awards were presented for television, film and interactive entertainment. The Interactive awards have been running for four years now and many of the awards have been won by the games industry.
The successes this year include Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 for GBA winning the award for Games – Mobile and Conker’s Bad Fur Day taking Sound.

Sony posts a rare loss, with PS2 being the lone bright spot in the forecast ...
Sony claims that the economic slowdown has had no effect on it's videogame business, nor have the terrorist attacks curbed this sort of discretionary spending.
However, despite the PS2's excellent money generating for the company, Sony posted a loss of $352M.
This quarter was the first quarter that the PS2 made money for Sony after six consecutive quarters operating in the red.

Reuters reports that the X-Box manufacturer is laying off 10,000 workers.
The Reuters report on Flextronics earnings report is anything but positive. Analysts expected earinings of 16 cents per share ... with Flextronics offering an estimate of 15-18 cents per share.

One-upping Sega, LucasArts and Factor 5 plan to put Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II on shelves November 7th. That's over a week before the system comes out! Considering the game's popularity, store-based consumers may want to consider purchasing the game before November 18th.

Baseball lovers, rejoice! The GameCube version of All Star Baseball 2002 has several GameCube exclusive features, including stadiums!
That's right, only on the GameCube will you see Safeco Field lit up for the 2001 All-Star Game, or the new Puerto Rico Stadium.
And a first in a baseball videogame, the GameCube version will include what Acclaim is calling "Broken Bat Technology."

Not one, but TWO games in the infamous Mortal Kombat series are in the works for Nintendo's handheld.
Today Midway released a huge new release schedule, much of it unchanged from the last time they did so. However, there were some new GBA games on there, including Ultimate Mortal Kombat for a Q1 2002 release, and Mortal Kombat 5 for a Q3 2002 release. MK5 has already been confirmed for GameCube and will come out approximately the same time...perhaps they'll link up?

According to Left Field, the sequel to the N64 Snowboarding game is not currently being worked on.
Games Radar has heard from the president of Left Field, Mike Lamb, about the state of 1080° Snowboarding 2. After hearing rumors of the game being canceled, Lamb told Games Radar "We were developing a Gamecube snowboarding game for Nintendo but we have stopped work on the project. I really can't comment on the reasons."

It looks like “Pikalele” isn’t the only new, mysterious thing being registered as a trademark for Nintendo…
If you’ve followed our coverage recently, you’ll know about trademarks registered for Pikalele, something that seems related to music and Pokemon. It seems that this was not the only trademark . Ten days prior to the trademarks for Pikalele, NOA filed a trademark for “Poke Doll.” What Poke Doll is seems hard to say, though it does seem very artistically oriented. Here’s the trademark:
