by David Trammell - February 13, 2002, 1:30 pm EST

The successor to Nintendo's famed marketing guru, Peter Main, gave a presentation in New York City during Toy Fair.

In the presentation, Peter MacDougall, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, George Harrison, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Corporate Communications, and Perrin Kaplan, Vice President, Corporate Affairs gave a presentation to over 60 analysts at the famed Four Seasons Hotel regarding Nintendo's 2001 figures.

Among financial and company news portraying the success of GameCube (95% sellthrough of 2.7 million units worldwide), GameBoy Advance (a $1.7 billion market), and Pokemon Crystal (1.4 million sold), a number of positive statistical information was given, indicating that the market should be bullish for years to come.

  • $9 billion in revenue in the U.S.

  • $10-11 billion revenue predicted for 2002.

  • 60% of all Americans (150 million people) are playing video games.

  • 125 million GameBoys have been sold worldwide.

Looking forward, Nintendo predicted that their U.S. marketshare will increase to about 40% with the help of the GameCube (4.5 million units, 18 million game sales) and GameBoy Advance (7 million units, 23 million games).

Assisting in their success will be the Zelda, Star Fox, and Metroid franchises making their debuts on the platforms this year.
