GameCube Online Network Announced! GC

GameCube modems available in early 2002; Phantasy Star Online from Sega to be one of the first compatible titles.

According to Nikkei News, the GameCube's online capabilities will be employed sooner than you may have expected. At least in Japan, the 56K modem and broadband adaptor will ship early next year. Sega's Phantasy Star Online Version 2 is now confirmed to use the GameCube online capabilities, and it will be available in March 2002. Here's the report from Nikkei:

NCS announces GCN import pricing GC

NCS has announced the pricing of their GCN import bundle, for those that just can't wait until November ...

If November is simply too far away, and you must have that smooth GCN controller in your hand as soon as possible, look no further than NCS.

National Console Support are probably the biggest online importer, and they've annouced the price of their import GameCube pacakge.

For $450, you get your GameCube console, Wave Race: Blue Storm, Luigi's Mansion, and a memory card.

First off I’d like to thank all the people that have come forward and donated money to help Planet GameCube in our time of need. I’ve gotten tons of e-mails of support for PGC, and it’s been absolutely fantastic! Your donations are going to help us pay for our increasing server costs. August is one of our biggest months due to Space World, and we obviously don’t want to shut down.

Nintendo says no to Tokyo Game Show

Nintendo once again isn't taking part in the autumn Tokyo Game Show. Not to say there won't be Nintendo games there....

According to Core Magazine, Nintendo will once again step out of the autumn Tokyo Game Show. This year's autumn TGS will take place October 12-14 at the Makuhari Messe.

This doesn't mean there won't be any Nintendo games shown there. Companies that are already chalked up for the event are From Software, Enix, Capcom, Namco, Sega, and Square.

Universal Studios at SW GC

Nintendo recently updated its Space World games list, adding one more GCN game!

It seems another third party GameCube title will be playable at Space World: Universal Studios! No gameplay details are known about the game yet, but many are waiting to see how the Universal licenses will be implemented.

With another 3rd party GCN game on display, Nintendo is slowly showing the world that the upcoming system will have more support than the N64.

The publisher of Iridion 3-D and Earthworm Jim for GBA today announced yet another handheld game, Boxing Fever. It will feature first-person, strategic boxing against fully animated opponents, each with a unique personality. The game's style will lean towards cartoony and humorous, but Majesco hopes the strategic gameplay and involved storyline will attract older gamers as well as young.

Steven Kent shares how GameCube's graphics are better than Xbox's (at least in one respect).

In the September edition of Popular Science magazine, Steven Kent writes up a short article on Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader and GameCube's HDTV resolution. Thanks to reader Tommy Hofer, another of Kent's GCN-loving quotes can be shared with the masses.

...Rogue Squatron 2 for Nintendo's new GameCube delivers the action in 1,920 by 1,080 lines of resolution. That's equivalent to HDTV.

Nintendo has a new Game Boy Advance ad out in Europe and it is one of the funniest commercials ever.

If you saw the first European GBA commercial, you'll remember that it was quite funny. The first one featured a man peeing down his pants in the bathroom because he didn't want to take his hands off of playing his GBA. Well, this new commercial is even better. It features 2 people going upstairs to engage in some "frisky business" with the Game Boy Advances. Thanks to Powder.

Spider-Man: The Movie GC

Coinciding with the release of the upcoming Spider-Man film, Activision plans on releasing the webbed one in May 2002 for all consoles.

Coming for PlayStation 2, X-Box, GameCube and Game Boy Advance via development house Treyarch, who have previously have worked on porting Tony Hawk: Pro Skater 2 and Spider-Man for Dreamcast, Spider-Man: The Movie (hopefully they find a better title) is set for release May 2002. The project is being worked on in conjunction with Columbia Pictures and is said to follow the movie's storyline very closely.
