THQ Acquires Rainbow Studios

One of the largest North American publishers is obtaining a new internal developer.

THQ, the publisher responsible for many popular wrestling and Nickelodeon-based games, as well as distribution of Sega's GBA titles over the next two years, will soon acquire Rainbow Studios as an internal developer. Rainbow Studios is known for Motocross Madness on PC and ATV Offroad Fury for PS2. They are currently working on Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX and Star Wars Racer II: Racer Revenge for other publishers. Acclaim Brings In-Line Skating to GameCube

The developer of Dave Mirra BMX is currently working on an "agressive in-line skating" game for all next-gen consoles.

Lost Boys Games Find Publisher in Xicat

Two exciting handheld games from Lost Boys have received a publisher for two of its GBA games. Details within.

Lost Boys Games has just announced that Xicat will publish two of its titles – Black Belt Challenge and Invader. These games may not sound too familiar, but it’s because that they have both been renamed. Black Belt Challenge was formerly known as Fire-Eaters while Invader used to be known as Kaisertal. Both games are scheduled for a 2002 release for Europe.

Back at E3, it was announced Nov. 5th was the GameCube launch date. The upside is that we are now into the final drag!

As some of you probably well know, today was the day that GameCube was supposed to hit stores across North America. E3 2001 gave birth to a date, a launch date for GameCube which was specifically known as November 5th... At Nintendo’s pre-show press conference, Peter Main was asked if they were joking about this date and he said no. It seemed to be set in stone.

Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami has revealed his next project.

Capcom mastermind Shinji Mikami has been working on a top secret GameCube project since September. The game is an action-adventure title. It has quite the odd title though. It is called CAS Ra. Work on the title is said to be coming along quite well.

Many people who ordered Rogue Leader from Lucasarts.com have gotten the game in today. Now if only they had GameCubes...

Lucas Arts has begun shipping Rogue Leader pre-orders that were placed on their website. Many lucky (?) gamers have gotten the game today and are busy reading the instruction booklet and marveling at the tiny GameCube optical disc. Oh the torture!

Nintendo has kicked off the next phase of their TV ad campaign by playing game specific ads for Luigi's Mansion and Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II (and possibly other games). Even more GBA colors?! GBA

Watch out, Billy! Two more colors are being made for Japan, though they aren't exactly new...

In order to provide all (Japanese) gamers with a color co-ordinated video game network, Spice Orange and Jet Black will be added to the GBA's already huge list of colors on December 14th.

If any Japanese colors are going to make it overseas, Jet Black will almost definately be among them.

No Q for the U.S. GC

Panasonic announced today that there are no plans to release its DVD player/GameCube hybrid in North America.

It has long been suspected that the GameCube/DVD hybrid, now known as “Q,” was a Japan-only product. These suspicions were confirmed today in a statement made by a Panasonic spokesperson, reports Reuters.

``It's simply a Japan device. ... Right now there are absolutely no plans for U.S. marketing,'' said Kurt Praschak, a Panasonic spokesman
