Some North American and UK consoles are getting bricked.
Nintendo of America released Wii system update 4.2 on Tuesday, a patch that reportedly had the intention of shutting down Wii hacking solutions. The popular Wii Homebrew Channel is removed by the update, and several known exploits (both hardware and software) are eliminated along with the ability to use USB loaders or downgrade your Wii firmware. The Wii Shop Channel was also updated to reflect the new firmware.

The intergalactic battle game sets forth on October 5.
Big John Games has announced that their DSiWare title, Thorium Wars, will be released on October 5. Thorium Wars is a futuristic vehicle shooter in which players will fight against a race of machines called the Thorions to prevent the destruction of mankind.
Players will have five vehicles to choose from, navigate through exotic locales, and face dangerous enemy mechs.

The Gameloft title has been rated E10+ by the ESRB.
A listing by the ESRB confirms that a remake of the classic educational title Oregon Trail is coming to DSiWare courtesy of Gameloft. The title has been rated E10+, and the ESRB describes it as a strategy title that has players assuming the role of a wagon leader who must protect their family and avoid diseases such as Dysentery.

A Samurai Warriors 3 fact sheets reveals the details.
Koei has dropped hints of the Classic Controller Pro coming to North America and Europe via a fact sheet for the North American/European release of Wii title Samurai Warriors 3. The fact sheet describes the game as being fully compatible with the Classic Controller Pro, despite the fact that the peripheral has yet to be announced for either region.

A little bit of CG. A little bit of direct feed gameplay footage. A whole lot of monkeys in balls.
Sega featured a new Japanese trailer for Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll on their Tokyo Game Show media DVD. The newest trailer actually combines footage from the first CG trailer along with gameplay footage that shows off some of the Balance Board controlled stages.
Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll is slated for an early 2010 release.

A teaser trailer displays what you can accomplish by flipping the world on its side.
And Yet It Moves is an upcoming WiiWare title by Broken Rules. It's an adventure/platforming title with the main innovation of allowing you to move the stage on its side, creating new passages, entrances, and solutions to puzzles. This trailer shows this in a clearer light, along with some amusing stop-motion footage.

UK gamers will be battling in October for a trip to Japan.
Nintendo of Europe has announced an upcoming tournament that they are holding to determine "Britain's Best Gamer". Held at several GAME group (GAME/Gamestation) stores in mid-October, the grand prize is a trip to Nintendo of Japan worth an estimated £10,000. Players in each region will compete on Wii Sports Resort, Mario Kart DS, New Super Mario Bros., and Wii Fit.

The third game in the BIT.TRIP series promises to deliver challenging gameplay with a retro-tastic look.
Aksys Games has released a new trailer for the third game in their WiiWare BIT.TRIP series, BIT.TRIP.VOID. The game once again features the classic look reminiscent of old-school arcade and console titles, along with challenging gameplay and techno music.

Capcom releases two new trailers for Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All Stars showcasing two new characters.
During TGS Capcom has officially revealed two characters for the upcoming fighting game, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars. The two new characters are Frank West, from Capcom's Dead Rising series, and Tekkaman Blade, from the Tatsunoko series that bares its name.

Koei used Tokyo Game Show 2009 as an opportunity to unveil a pair of trailers for its upcoming Wii title Samurai Warriors 3. The first trailer shows several of the game's 35 characters in action, and features plenty of the game's stunning cinema scenes.

Nintendo announces the price drop, along with a new promotional tour and a release date for the next Mario game. UPDATED with Japanese price drop details.
Nintendo has officially announced that the price of their Wii console will drop to $199.99 USD effective Sunday, September 27. The hardware will still come packaged with a copy of Wii Sports, a Wii Remote, and a Nunchuk.
Nintendo has also announced that the price of the console will drop from ¥25,000 ($273) to ¥20,000 ($217) in Japan on October 1.
