New info on GC controller!

Click action in the L and R buttons and info from Miyamoto's hand-on inside!

At the press conference this morning, Nintendo's staff revealed a new feature of the GameCube's controller. When you press the analog L or R button down to the base, it meets resistance and you can continue to push resulting in a "click". Apparently, this "click" action is not unlike the click of say, a light gun. In Rogue Squadron 2, pressing the button increases your speed gradually while the "click" closes the wings for maximum speed (it was the right c button in the original Rogue Squadron).

Anyone who had doubts about the action of the GameCube's L and R buttons working well in a first person shooter can now put them to rest. The "click" action and trigger like position of the buttons will make them excellent successors to the N64's trigger like Z button. Many people were also worried that the C-stick wouldn't work as well as the N64's C buttons in moving around in first person, but Miyamoto put those worries to rest by demonstrating Luigi's Mansion which requires players to use the C-stick to move Luigi.

Nintendo also mentioned that the GameCube controller will have built in rumble feature, and playfully reminded everyone that they pioneered this feature (in home consoles) with the old Rumble Pak. Finally, they showed off the Wave Bird wireless controller while demonstrating a new game called "Pikmin". We'll have hands on impressions of the GameCube controller tomorrow!
