"Clearly a murder most foul. This Marowak was wielding a Thick Club."

A concept first shown by the Pokémon Company nearly two and a half years ago has become a 3DS eShop title in Japan.

Detective Pikachu ~Birth of a New Combination~ will release in the Japanese eShop next week for 1200 yen and can be preloaded now. The price will increase to 1500 yen on February 29. The story stars a Pikachu capable of human speech who is working with a young man named Tim Goodman to solve various mysteries around the city.

The game is described as a "cinematic adventure game" in the Nintendo Topics for the game. As of yet, there is no word of an international release.

Weird... I wonder who's developing this, internal Game Freak?

I doubt they will, but I really hope they release this outside of Japan.

Seems like it could be the good kind of crazy.

Can we just have it be Meowth instead? This entire setup (especially if Pikachu isn't actually battling which I saw somewhere) just works better that way and besides, the world needs more Meowth in a trenchcoat.

Man, Meowth was awesome.

Team Rocket in general, like if you do a filler episode focused on any of them it will almost always turn out well.

And then there's "A Poached Ego".

It's like Bye Bye Butterfree, only with Arbok and Weezing and an extra large dose of kick the dog courtesy of the writing staff.

Huh, Detective Meowth actually does sound a lot more interesting. I'm afraid all Detective Pikachu is going to be is "hey, look at how absurd this thing is."

It's the sidequests that really make this game's storytelling shine. While the Main story is essentially a predictable mess starring Emo Boy Lao the Sidequests are where the game really got me invested.

What's interesting is that in the Main Story your character kinda plays second fiddle to Elma and it's only really in the sidequests where your character really gets a chance to really make a name for themselves.
