Xenoblade Chronicles X Development Nearing Completion

It looks like Wii U owners may not have to worry about a delay to 2016 after all.

Xenoblade Chronicles X, the upcoming Japanese role-playing game from developer Monolith Soft, is nearly complete.

According to executive director Tetsuya Takahashi, development on the Wii U exclusive is almost finished, despite the team having to overcome a few hurdles along the way. "The development [of Xenoblade Chronicles X] did have its twists and turns, but we were able to finish up (just a little more until it’s complete) Xenoblade Chronicles X in the sci-fi world we aimed for from the beginning in a seamless open-world with online play, and I feel that we were able to overcome several obstacles as far as game development goes," he said on Twitter.

"With the vast world that was shown when Iwata-san introduced the game in the Nintendo Direct the other day, it would bring me great pleasure to have you folks get to thoroughly explore it," Takahashi added.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is set to release in Japan this coming spring and sometime in North America and Europe before the end of 2015.

AWESOME!!! I can't wait. Xenoblade became my favorite all time game I really hope this is close to as good.

He mentioned online play...I hope he means more than just Miiverse

Relieving to read that the Japan release target of Spring 2015 isn't a wild guess. I can only hope a worldwide localization isn't too far behind.

It has online play? Since when was that a thing? Whatever, don't care, I'm buying this for single player.

Since the first time it was announced? And don't bother, the single player and multiplayer seemed to be joined at the hip, a la Dark Souls or Monster Hunter.

I'm just hoping the online play actually used voice chat DURING gameplay unlike Mario Kart and Smash

CericNovember 21, 2014

Online play could be really cool if the developer played and learned the lessons from Diablo 3.

First of heard of it or maybe I'm just forgetting. Eh, doesn't concern me too much. Unless they have like superbosses you and five other people can fight at once. Then I am vastly interested.

Multiplayer has always been a thing since the first trailer when you see the dolls flying around that big creature. There you see your allies have the names payer 2, 3 and 4. Here is a link for proof ---->https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKus0sOPEHo#t=82

What?!? Are you implying you didn't like the exploration of the huge open world in Xenoblade Chronicles? If that's an issue for you just use the teleportation option it's super convenient.

Long running joke about all the trailers for this game.

I didn't think online multiplayer was officially announced, just that it seemed to be there from what we have seen. Looks like it's coming but I'd like more details on how it works.

If we have to go through another operation rainfall I just might sell my Wii U.

Actually I'll want to and I'll be really made just like I was when they postponed Rayman Legends and then I'll get over it just like I did with Rayman Legends

I severely doubt there's any issue regardig an American release, given how much they've showed it, but worst case scenario it'd be digital only. The Rainfall games would have come to NA digitally if the infrastructure had been there (assuming they could have pared them down to 40 MB).

You never know. Europe has all 3 donkey Kong country games on Wii U VC. We don't even have them on Wii VC

Those are coming I'm sure, Nintendo's just holding off to avoid giving me DDP credit for them, probably.

I'd have loved to have seen 40MB versions of the Rainfall games! They would have probably been 2D platformers that you could finish in 2 hours.
