A French interview lends credence to suspicions regarding Nintendo’s NFC plans.
In an interview with French publication Le Figaro, Nintendo France Managing Director Stephan Bole said that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will use NFC in some capacity.
The interview was fairly wide-ranging, and talk eventually turned to Nintendo’s E3 plans. “E3 is also an opportunity to show the use of NFC technology in Nintendo consoles,” stated Bole. “The NFC will be used in the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros.”
Nintendo first revealed plans for an NFC-enabled lined of figurines, called NFP, in this month’s year-end financial results briefing. A more formal introduction for NFP and the first related games or functionality has been promised for E3 2014, when more Super Smash Bros. information is also scheduled to come out.
We have reached out to Nintendo for confirmation and clarification regarding this statement, but for now take it with a grain of salt as no announcement has been made through official channels.
