Smashing in for a second round.

Today, Evo (Evolution Championship Series) founder Tom Cannon announced that Super Smash Bros. Melee will be at the 2014 Evo tournament.

This will be the second year in a row that the Nintendo fighter will join the competition. Last year, an astonishing 700 competitors stepped up to bat, making it the largest Melee tournament in history.

Alongside the GameCube brawler will be Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Killer Instinct, Injustice: Gods Among Us, King of Fighters XIII and BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma.

Evo will be held at LVH, Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, July 11-13.

There are probably a lot of snarky comments on this, but for me I am relieved and excited that Melee makes a return to EVO.

Watching the EVO streams of the past few years have been extraordinarily fun, and seeing Smash Bros. Melee on the main stage is amazing.

There was actually a dual announcement;

Super Smash Bros. Melee is coming back to both EVO and MLG.

Also, I never followed the Smash eSports scene at all in that past, but a couple months ago I watched the "The Smash Brothers" documentary that was made, posted on Youtube.  It's really well done and I'm actually looking forward to tuning into both EVO & MLG when they roll around.

I wonder if this is partially to make a statement on the way the enthusiasts want SSBMU to go.

Loved that Smash Brothers documentary as mush as l loved watching Melee at Evo 2013 on Twitch.
PLEASE let this be a message to Sakurai. Melee is what we want! Just that. Please, if NOTHING else, let the Wii U have the best version of Smash Brothers. Do I even dare to dream...
