Connect your system to the internet and start downloading!

If you go into the eShop on the 3DS, you'll be able to start downloading the new system update.

Currently, we can confirm this is available in North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan. We'll confirm the contents of the update as soon as we can. Let us know your thoughts in the Talkback!

All I get is "An error has occurred. Unable to update. The system will now be restarted." I'm not sure if their servers are getting pounded or what.
EDIT: started slowing downloading after five tries.

Mine is updating first try, but how long did it take yours to update?

TJ SpykeDecember 06, 2011

Been downloading for over 10 minutes, looks like it's less than 5% through. I will assume it's taking so long to download because so many people are trying to do the same thing (it's the same when trying to download a iOS update).

Mine is complete now.
So about 4-5 minutes.

I'm wondering if the fact that I turned on 3D on the 4th attempt had anything to do with it working. Either way, it did. /placeboeffect'd

16 minutes to download and install.  Not bad considering all the improvements and additions.

Wow.  3DS update and XBox 360 dashboard overhaul all on the same day.

3DS and X-Box on the same day? Gotta wonder if PlayStation it's updates today too.

Sony should release a Skyrim update to break more stuff.

Mine was already completely downloaded via SpotPass when I opened my 3DS. It took probably less than a minute to apply at that point. Gotta hand it to Nintendo; that's pretty awesome.

Small changes that mean a lot to me: In the eShop, when you buy something from your Wish List there are a number of improvements. First, your entire Wish List is displayed at one time instead of being broken into multiple pages. Second, you have the option to download a purchased title right away or to wait and download later (in the background). Finally, you now return to your Wish List after buying something instead of being kicked back to the main screen.

I know the update didn't do anything amazing... but it has added some neat functionality and made using my 3DS even easier and more enjoyable. Nice.

I'm hoping tonight I can see the eShop changes.  Yesterday it wouldn't load up with unhelpful error but, the internet browser was fine...

eShop loads way faster for me now.
