Microsoft's managing director gives an educated guess on GCN's Japan price at launch.

Although Microsoft has no inside information when it comes to Nintendo's business, Hirohisa Ohura's job is to know what hardware costs. So when asked what the Japanese price of the Xbox would be, he stated that it all depends on its competitors' prices.

"...the price of Nintendo's GameCube, which I personally think will fall around 19,800 yen ($160)."

As the GIA says, it truly is the Land of the Rising Fun. GBA sales numbers are in, and all is well.

GameSpot VG reports that Famitsu's GBA sales numbers are in, and they show the fledgling handheld breaking the one million mark in Japan. In about three weeks of availability, Famitsu has recorded 1,132,612 Game Boy Advance units being sold in Nintendo's home country. Note that Famitsu sales data is usually less than the actual statistics, because of the sampling method used.

In the past week the Nintendo faithful have been taking up the charge to do their part in securing GameCube's deserved place in the next generation. In what must be one of the most amazing Videogame hacks of all time, someone has hacked the original ROM to The Legend of Zelda and created a whole new adventure. Details inside.

While we normally don't condone the illegal copying of game ROMs, this was too cool to pass up.

Challenge Games has hacked the original game ROM for The Legend of Zelda and made an entirely new adventure, with a new overworld map as well. While this isn't the first game that Challenge Games has hacked, it is probably one of the most impressive.

The delightful mouse Stuart Little will be coming to Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance AND GameCube courtesy of Activision.

Activision has announced a deal with Sony Pictures Consumer Products that gives them the rights to produce games based on Columbia Pictures' Stuart Little movie & its upcoming sequel, Stuart Little 2, which will hit summer 2002.

Activision plans to bring its Stuart Little games to Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance and GameCube! Activision has not announced plans to bring the perky mouse to non-Nintendo consoles.

Retro Studios, the Nintendo second-party developer bringing us the next Metroid, continues to take lessons from the school of hard-knocks in the form of more layoffs.

Last night, IGNCube reported that there is even MORE trouble for Retro Studios. According to their sources, Nintendo laid off an additional 3 programmers, though it is not known if the programmers were assigned to the “Retro RPG” or the new Metroid game—Retro Studios’ only two remaining NGC projects.

As anyone who is an avid follower of the latest Nintendo news knows, Nintendo has kept a tight lid on anything and everything regarding the GameCube. Thanks to the lack of info, industry analysts have been predicting delays left and right for Nintendo's new console. Finally, someone at Nintendo breaks the silence. Go and read Core Magazine's excellent transcription of nDream magazine's interview with Nintendo director, Satoru Iwata.

Well folks, E3's only a little more than a month away, and if you don't know what "E3" is, then you must not be an avid gamer.

E3 is the Electronic Entertainment Expo, held in Los Angeles. It's the COMDEX of the gaming world, and if it's not at E3, you won't be seeing it this year. (Then again, just because you see it at E3, doesn't mean you'll be seeing it this year ...)

At #2 - Mario Advance with 98,976 sold this week and 319,076 sold in total since release.

At #7 - Kuru Kuru Kururin GBA - 39,506 this week and 87,920 in total.

At #8 - F-Zero GBA - 36,753 this week and 111,203 in total.

While Steven Kent may work for a MS-oriented news site I'll give him applause for the brass balls he shows writing something critical of X-Box's chances in Japan. Read up, and suck in a good article... it's been a while.

The "fifth" player in the next-gen console game (behind the now-defunct Sega) was to be Indrema. Now it looks like the still-born console maker only has 30-days to live.

According to the Red Herring, if Indrema doesn't find additional funding in the next 30 days, the ill-fated manufacturer of the L600, the company will fold.

Not surprising, given market conditions. Venture capitalists would be taking a great risk on an unproven competitor in a marketplace that has already claimed the life of one veteran of the field.
